the monetisation model of double exposure is KILLING me - as much as I love the marketing materials put out for the game, there's always that lurking pricetag in the background - $80 for cat content, weird outfits and early access. Before the Storm also had exclusive outfits with the Deluxe edition, but this came with an entire DLC, for only a few dollars more. Not to mention, Chloe's outfit packs at least looked like they fit into the scenes properly. some of the outfits they've got for Max in the ultimate edition look like modded skins

@@CucuOnGames the fan counterpoint to your ergonomic inclusion of Chloe is Deck Nine’s overuse of the death hammer. They excel at creating dramatic scenes, and nothing is more dramatic than dealing with loss. They used it with William and bonked the player over the head with it at the end of BtS. It was the entire framing device of Farewell. In True Colors it was the Gabe hammer and they not only crushed the player constantly with it, but used it to bang along their rather feeble and silly “plot.” If Deck Nine is being true to form, the easiest way to handle Chloe is to have her gone and Max lamenting her sacrifice or loss of relationship. It fuels the drama queen scenes that Deck Nine loves to write. Not to be, “that gal,” but all the promo has leaned more that way than preventing spoilers. However I like the way you framed your hunch and will probably buy the game if you are correct. The last thing Deck can kill is hope…until the release, I guess. I suggest those who preordered wear hard hats as there’s a hammering a coming and her name is Chloe. 😆

@@hardatworktom2244 Don’t Nod made it pretty clear that the first game doesn’t work if you continue it beyond “the choice,” and Deck Nine is disregarding that and canonizing the decade after the storm. They’re already on sequel thin ice for that, and a lot of what they’ve shown indicate rebooting the OG to something they can continue as a serialized series. They are oddly quiet about Chloe and PriceField. Who knows though. We’ll see soon whether this game is a worthy sequel or complete 💩. 🤷‍♀️

There's information spreading all over Twitter and Reddit from an ex-DeckNine employee. They stated that Square Enix does not like Chloe and that they wanted her out of the picture, and how Square Enix also had beef with Ashly Burch. They also mentioned that there are probably no longer any more DeckNine higher-ups that care about the franchise. So this video was likely spot-on about them not caring. It's all chaos.

Just found this post and I FULLY believe that the narrative team hates Chloe. A 100% everyone up there despises her. It's not even about how abruptly they have removed her from the series but _how_ they wrote Chloe's character. Maybe it's a good thing she was barely mentioned in the game because I'd probably lose the last bits of my sanity. I am confused about the Ashly thing though. They mentioned something about Ashly talking sh-- about Rhianna's performance and I don't remember her ever alluding to that. Like where did they get that from, seems like execs just didn't like Ashly for being Ashly (aka not taking anyone's shit and strongly standing up for actors' rights)

Rihanna has a role in an unannounced project, playing some character in the voice and motion capture category (she's only ever played Chloe in the latter category). Plus a correct leak from 2022 claimed that Chloe could appear if you saved her. So Chloe should be here, the only question is whether it will be real time (calls, texts and personal appearances), or flashbacks/audio flashbacks and nightmare. It could be both depending on the ending.

IMO if you go for the route where Chloe lives, Chloe's presence in the game will be kept to a minimum. Maybe she's rocking out in a band or something. Maybe she's on a trip while Max is at the university. Whatever the case is, I think Square-Enix is positioning this as Max's game and she's totally on our own. This isn't a bad thing because so much of the original game was Max's friendship with Chloe and her inability to make hard choices. She clung to Chloe and their own friendship. Max has grown up A LOT however and developed much more of a voice and ability to stand up for herself and make her own choices. I feel like having her own solo adventure is a good idea to showcase how much she's grown on her own two feet! EDIT: Man, when I said I figured Chloe's presence would be kept to a minimum, this is NOT what I had in mind 🥺

I've been thinking a lot about this, I saw that the developers confirmed that the choices in Life is Strange 2 will also be important for this game, so we have the photo of Chloe and Max that was in David's trailer in the second game that we can see that it was taken right there in "away", what if we have a flashback to the moment of this photo? It would probably be the moment that we would have interaction with Chloe and maybe even the characters from 2 or a quote from them, I'm almost sure that will be it.

Hello :) I think people aren’t necessarily worried about Chloe not being in the game at all, but about her being a small cameo instead. After all, every scene with Chloe requires double work, so she _can’t_ have a major role, but only having a small role wouldn’t be satisfying either. It will be very difficult to implement her in a way that makes fans happy :-( Love your idea about Chloe taking Max out on a date, though! She would definitely encourage Max to pursue her dreams, even if that means they’ll be separated for a while. As someone who sacrificed her with a heavy heart, I’m beyond excited to meet her in my Bae playthrough! Though I hope she won’t be the only returning character from Life is Strange ;) I wonder if Episode 2 will end with either Chloe or someone from Arcadia Bay knocking on Max’s door? That would surely be a way to get fans to pre-order the game! I agree that Chloe likely isn’t advertised so people won’t get their hopes up too high. She isn’t a part of the main story, so the focus isn’t on her, but on the things that are. Not to mention, the joy and excitement when Chloe finally does appear will be over the roof! They've really backed themselves into a difficult corner with this game, haven't they? Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to see how they implement Chloe - truth be told, I'll be satisfied even if she shows up in one scene, but I don't think the majority of the fanbase feels that way. I think a lot of people wanted a Max AND Chloe sequel, which is a tough nut to crack. I would LOVE to see Episode 2 end on a cliffhanger - especially considering how much attention they could drum up online over potential returning characters. Oh, definitely. Chloe's going to be ALL over the internet when she's revealed, and I'm really excited for it. I imagine that Chloe may appear either in the midgame around chapter 3-4 or towards the end of chapter 5. Due to the fact that purchasers of the Ultimate Edition get to play chapters 1 and 2 two weeks earlier than others, Chloe might be saved for a big reveal, in order for Don't Nod to spike that bombshell right over the net and blow all our minds, as well as keep the details of the game under wraps in order to preserve the mystery. I am absolutely ecstatic at the possibility of PriceFeild continuing. Just over a month now.

@@daviddelara7158 nah the thing is: when you know about the developer drama behind the games it’s kinda hard to like anything that Decknine puts out there. Especially when it’s trying to profit from LiS, a game and characters that another studio (Dontnod) created and sadly sold the rights to Decknine in hopes of better advertising. But now Decknine is doing sequels and follow-up games for the hell of it and writing stuff into the characters that, for the original creators, was never intended to happen. Dontnod has stated multiple times that the story of Max & Chloe was supposed to be finished after the first game. Their philosophy is to create meaningful stories with different characters in each new game and they take their stories to heart. That’s why the first LiS game resonated so well with the players and became a big hit. It has a very dedicated fandom now because many people relate to the story and characters. Almost as if the love and dedication that Dontnod puts in their games can be felt while playing. Now every LiS-realted game that Decknine puts out there feels soulless to me, already starting at Before the Storm. This one, Double Exposure, takes a beloved character but not for the sake of finishing their story or giving them some kind of arc but just for the sake of „It’s Max. People loved Max in the first game“. It just feels very profit-driven. And don’t get me started on how this new game handles Chloe. It’s just disrespectful to the original developers and their endings. No decision in the first game has any weight now if Chloe and Max are breaking up in the future anyway and Double exposure just gives us the two options of „we were sweethearts but broke up“ and „she died.“ Like come on? This video actually proposes such a smarter way of incorporating Chloe into the story but Decknine chose to stomp it all because apparently they don’t even like the character of Chloe. So yeah, Dontnods LiS legacy is in good hands…

Don't know if you'd see or respond to this, but the Reddit page has blown up with screenshots of the early access gameplay, HUNDREDS of replies and likes on posts that focus on Chloe being mismarketed, what they did to the story, and simply the fact that the story feels... Even though I chose to save Arcadia because Max wouldn't destroy a city. I want Chloe to be alive. It would be interesting to see a reality where Chloe is alive in Double Exposure. It would be possible because this game is based on comics. There could be a really nice scene with Max seeing Chloe with Rachel or another Max, without being able to do anything. Seeing her happy will be enough for Max. And the fan service moment will be there. It would be a beautiful scene. Very emotional.

I would love to see her again. I essentially grew up with the LiS games, the first one releasing when I was around 16 during summer break, depressed. LiS gave me a reason to wake up each day to play and wait for the new episodes. Before the Storm was a similar feeling, releasing when I was around 18 and still figuring out life. Chloe, although a heavily flawed character, gives me a sense of comfort. Not quite nostalgia, but comfort of familiarity. I'd love to see her again, grown up alongside Max and how her personality might've developed - she was quite a mixed bag in LiS and I would've loved for her to improve and grow alongside Max. She's a beloved character in the fandom, I can't imagine them only using her as cameo/mentioned by others without... showing her in some way. Maybe she could help us, maybe we can meet her to catch up.

The game is also advertised to have a side focus on Max's trauma from the first game. If you sacrificed Arcadia Bay, Max and Chloe will be long distance friends or partners, and Max will have traumatic memories kinda like "it's my fault the people in arcadia bay died." and frequent visions of the tornado hitting the town. Towards the end, after multiple repeated visions of the tornado, the camera will zoom out and show Max and Chloe on the cliff. It will be a sequence similar to William's scenes in Before The Storm. Basically Vision Chloe will comfort her and the story goes back to the present. "It's okay, let it go." If you sacrificed Chloe, Max will have traumatic memories about the loss of her friend, such as being way more shocked by the gunshot by Safi's murderer. (To the point where you can even sprint faster than usual and reach Safi earlier) Towards the end, Max, after being knocked out for whatever reason or something, wakes up in Chloe's truck in the scene from Episode 1 of the first game. It's pretty much the same as the other one, with Chloe comforting her. "It's okay. let me go." At the end in the chloe alive timeline, she will meet up with her and sit down, where max will recap the story of the game to Chloe. At the end in the chloe dead timeline, she will visit her grave, leaving a flower as the camera focuses on Chloe's grave, as the blue butterfly lands on the tombstone.

If Chloe really has only one scene at the end of the game and sprinkled texts and calls through out the game that will be insulting af to everyone who chose Bae. I did not wait 9 years for a sequel to the first game for Amanda to get all the romance scenes and mo cap and Chloe getting a single scene at the end. Not only did everyone who saved the town get a complete ending and we got the short end of the stick but now from all the Marketing hiding Chloe as well feels like a stab to everyone who saved her. I really hope Im wrong but if not the devs better be prepared for the shitstorm they are about to receive from half the fanbase.

As I see it, the graphic novel series is the consolation for those who chose the "Bae" ending, as it gives us a whole additional story arc that ends with them ending up together for good. I realize we can argue till the blue butterflies come home if it is "canon," even if only on one timeline, but If the new game "respects" the two game endings, but fatally contradicts the graphic novels, I'm not going to be happy.

I still feel like Chloe might only make a brief appearance at the end. It's difficult to have Chloe in this game in any more than a minor cameo as it will alienate the Bay people who are also fans of Chloe who will miss out if they choose their preferred LiS1 ending. If Chloe does makes an appearance in episode 3 for Bae folk I would hope another similarly important character would appear for the Bay people. Alex making an appearance through Steph would be great, but that would be difficult since afaik neither Steph nor Alex have met Max, although maybe Steph could have met her after Chloe's death at a memorial. More likely it would just feature a lesser Arcadia Bay character (Kate? David?) which would not have anywhere near the same level of satisfaction.

Thanks for the video! I love your thoughts on Chloe's role in the new game, and I really want it to be true. I only disagree with one idea - I don't think Chloe will appear in the middle of the game, I think she will appear in the ending/epilogue. Why? Because I don't know where to put Chloe afterwards if she shows up in the middle of the game. I can't imagine her just leaving seeing the state Max is in now.

(I'm not dismissing that possibility, otherwise why did they change the photo of Max and Chloe from LIS2? It's much more intimate now) It's not impossible to do (Cyberpunk 2077 literally did it - you have 4 partners, only two of them are romanceable based on your gender, with the other two you get all the same content but you can't romance them). I could see the same thing they could do with Amnada in Bae - you get all the content with her except romance. And that would encourage people to replay the game in Bay to see the alternate romance! Or they could have given us a choice about Max and Chloe's relationship status, if you're best friends then it opens up the option to romance Amanda, if you're dating Chloe then the romance is blocked. And for the content with Chloe to even come close to Amanda, there really should be a lot of calls and texts from Chloe, not a couple of them for the whole game. I just feel bad that we get a romance with a new character for 5 episodes, but with Chloe we get crumbs at best. It's so unfair to those who chose Bae.

It makes sense that Amanda would swap with chloe, my only concern right now is what that entails and how they will BUILD UP to the cameo in the first two episodes i.e. texts, calls, etc. Not to mention they have supposedly spent 6 months apart which is almost hard to believe after replaying the first game (if their relationship is anything like in Ouroboros, then I can’t see them going a day without at least a FaceTime lol). On the other hand, DeckNine may envision Max and Chloe becoming a couple after the storm anyway. Maybe that's the reason they changed LIS 2 photo? (It's more intimate now, with Max snuggling up to Chloe like couples do in the photo). They've done the imposed romance trick before (Chloe and Rachel are described as a couple in the DLC for True Colors) so I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of Max and Chloe being the default couple in Bae, and all romantic interactions with Amanda being blocked. And they wouldn't have to expend the effort for variations of calls/texts/thoughts and Chloe's appearance in a friendship context. And given that those who see Max and Chloe as a couple far outnumber those who only see them as friends, I wouldn't be surprised that D9 took their side. The companies are well aware of this, otherwise we wouldn't have comics and books where Max and Chloe are only described as a couple.

I think a great solution that would satisfy both sides of the fandom is this: If you sacrificed Arcadia Bay, Chloe makes an appearance in Double Exposure in the regular timeline. If you sacrificed Chloe, she STILL makes an appearance in Double Exposure, but in the alternate timeline. The same can apply to all the other beloved characters (Warren, Kate, etc.) that either lived or died depending on players' LiS1 choice. This would be a great way to get the players feeling more nostalgic and emotionally invested in the game I think.

Oh! finally someone else that's embracing the "long-distance theory" like myself! And that's not thinking it like it's the end of the world!! Max taking a part-time job for a yet unspecified number of months/years automatically means things aren't going well between them! They're full grown adults at this point, likely have spent a considerable amount of years joined at the hips, and as you've said, Chloe would WANT Max to take such an opportunity, not only for Max's herself, but maybe also because it could mean they, as a couple, after years of travelling, are finally thinking about settling down for good... You know, buying a house and all that, which will require more stable income overall. Also, a thought, perhaps Chloe's employed herself somewhere not too far from her, yet far enough that they came to the conclusion it'd be more convenient for them to live separately for a time - like Max being offered having most expenses paid if she chose to live on campus, which would allow them to save even more money, and which seems very likely from what we've seen so far. I'd also like to remind everyone that, as much as we all love Chloe, Max was the protagonist in the first Life Is Strange, Chloe was the protagonist in the prequel about her and Rachel, as it should've been, but it makes perfect sense for Max to go full-circle being back as the protagonist with Chloe as a supporting role, if you think about it. Chloe being there constantly would've made more sense if they actually made a game about what happened right after they left Arcadia, but let's be real, we've had modded bits of what that could've looked like, wonderfully modded btw, but how quick would that have become repetitive? Or made us all further sad seeing them move constantly, trying to find their place in the world, whilst also been haunted by the ghosts of Arcadia? I honestly really like the direction they went with this so far... seeing the more 'resolved' version of Max and Chloe, as it seems, so far will be immensely healing... knowing that they were able to move forward somehow and perhaps are finally starting to settle for the future, in this, will be nothing but wonderful to witness, in my humble opinion. As well as them being able to give us another mystery to solve that will keep us on the edge of our seats like the first game did!

It feels like a lot of people are forgetting how bad of a friend Chloe was to Max. Sure, she was a friend and a shoulder, but many of Chloes own actions demonstrate that she, at least subconsciously, saw Max as a "tool" on more than one occasion. I mean, she got MAD at you if you didn't steal from disabled children, that doesn't feel like something we ought to just sweep under the rug. Again, loved the character, but the lack of nuanced discussion and excessive glazing of her character is troubling.

I agree. Moreover I think the fact that she has such flaws is intentional in her writing, and I appreciated that we got to call her out on it. We clearly weren’t meant to think Chloe is the best person in the world; just that she’s a troubled person and Max’s friend. That said, it’s also worth pointing out that she underwent a lot of character development throughout the game and recognised her selfishness. She apologised for telling Max not to pick up Kate’s call; she didn’t hold a grudge about letting the money go; and most of all by the end she was willing to give her life to avert the storm.

I love life is strange but I hate how theyre doing the different versions of the game like being able to play the game earlier if u have the ultimate edition is the most annoying thing ever. Anyone that doesnt have ultimate edition will basically need to delete all their social medias to avoid the spoilers. And the outfits u get with it are kind of cool I guess? but they dont look like they belong, I cant imagine anyone actually using them over her usual outfit.

yeah honestly, i don't like the ultimate edition at all. Before the Storm had a deluxe edition that managed to give players outfits that suited Chloe, AND an entire DLC, for only a few dollars extra. Double Exposure is egregious in comparison
