Thank you David!!! Love all these podcasts. Just finished my CPO today (online). Looking forward to gaining even more knowledge! The instructors emphasized the relationship between pH and chlorine but we did not go over the relationship when you introduce cyanuric acid.

You have saved me so much headache. No more PH chasing for me. PH 8.0 CYA 50ppm Chlorine 3.0ppm.
@JuanSanchez-tk4vr2 жыл бұрын
Me too. But I'm going to try 30 CYA like he recommended. We will see the results.

This is not going to cut it. At that PH, you will need 6.4 ppm free chlorine to obtain 0.05 ppm HOCl, the killing chlorine form. Look for "2.0 to 4.0 Free Chlorine May Not Work" From Bob Lowry. I don't know why Eric kept saying PH is negligible when CYA is present. That contradicts Lowry's Bulletin.

Thanks for the timely podcast. I have a client who's CYA is 150. Draining is the ONLY way to go but client will not sign off on it. Been trying for 3 months. And what do ya know, 2 weeks ago has an algae bloom. I tried to explain what needed to be done and why. Still won't drain. I gave him notice either drain it or I will be cancelling his service. Alas, this was his last week of service.

That is too bad. It is not a huge cost to refill as many believe...

I decided not do to drain my pool after I had a CYA level of 110 in November. I've been using PoolRX to combat algae bloom while the sun evaporates the water. Did a reading last week and my CYA is down to 60 ppm by slowly adding in water. It's not the ideal scenario, but a cheaper option while the pool isn't being used.

Keep in mind that sodium bromide algaecides work great on pools with high stabilizer and the pool owner is stubborn. I've got pools going on 3 years this way in the summer because owner refuses a drain, wash, and refill. A little dab of yellowtrine every few weeks might save your customer.

@@jccjmml7 After talking with him he feels he can take care of his own service and paying someone isnt worth it. Maybe he can...but he was doing that prior to me and his water was waaaaay out of balance anyways. He loves his 3" tabs. I think he has been shocking his pool in between service tha last week. Tuesday his Chlorine was 10+...and chlorinator filled to top with tabs on a #3 setting.

I did a 3/4 drain after adding a phosphate remover and have an almost undetectable CYA reading now. Also I have switched to non stabilized liquid chlorine. What are your thoughts on introducing a solar powered pool ionizer? And if so, which one do you recommend? Thanks for the videos, I am gaining control over this pool!

I have really low ALK and PH...it's not readable on my tests....I have really high CYA 125....is there really no way to remove this CYA ....I mean I just filled the pool 50% after opening....should I attack the low alk/pH then the cya? Or just drain ? Total pool noob....first season in new home

Hi Dave,thanks for all the good info you put out in all your vids,hard to find a pool service guy who is as knowledgeable as yourself!! Do u happen to service equipment in So Cal? Let's say I need a repair,or want to add something to my equipment,such as an ozone system or automatic chem dispense system, just some stuff I've been tossing around for a while. Is that something you would be able to do?

Do you have an opinion on using non-stabilized chlorine tabs?

They don;t seem to work as well from what I hear. I haven't used them yet myself. Those would be the Cal-Hypo Tabs.

David I think I’ve asked you this before but I’m going to again. How frequently are you running lsi tests while servicing accounts. I mean the sad truth is it takes way to long to pull calcium numbers when your knocking out 14-20 accts a day. Are you digitally via Hach testing calcium levels? I’d love to run LSI on my pools but whose got time for it? Also people don’t fear the cya, just use it appropriately!
@SPL4 жыл бұрын
Once a month in most cases. Can't do it every week if you have a big route.
