Great tips! In previs we avoided using the target camera as much as possible. It makes the rotational movement feel artificial because a camera man is never perfectly locked onto a target. Instead, he reacts to motion. That being said, a target camera can be a lifesaver for complicated motion, but be sure to fake some delayed rotational animation or put some realistic wobble on the rotations at the very least.

@@Chocofur I've followed your content for years, it introduced me to the 3D world and now (even if in another branch) I work full time as a Freelancer in 3D. I still remember studying your materials before PBR materials become the norm, I'm always happy to see new stuff from you, keep it up!
@Chocofur Жыл бұрын
@@dissonantmind 🤯I never realized anyone still remembers these old tutorials, not to mention it could have been anyone's introduction to 3D. thanks again man, that's a real eye opener for me. I'm thinking where should I take this channel in the future and I'm really drawn more to Blender "how to freelance" type of videos, rather than software tutorials only. Would you, as someone who's been here a really long time, enjoy that type of content?
@dissonantmind Жыл бұрын
@@Chocofur It's a grea idea! Personally I really like to hear the work experience of other people, especially Freelancers. It's great for confronting my career path until now and I think it will be super useful also for who decided to start. Compared to when I've started there are a lot more informations about Blender as a software now but I still see also a lot of misinformation on how use it in the industry or be professional with it (or at least in fields I've worked, real-time/optimization/game related stuff and archviz).
@Chocofur Жыл бұрын
@@dissonantmind thanks again for your input! I'll start slowly moving in that direction then 🙂

They actually have a built in addon called Camera Rigs that has an armature setup that's stupid easy to use, and all you'd need to do is set a constraint on the target bone. I haven't tried the crane one yet but the dolly does essentially what your setup does.
@felixr1306 Жыл бұрын
I've used the crane one and its just as easy to use as the dolly! Highly recommend either aswell :)

I always had issue with rotating the camera track to constraint, I used to remove the constraint and then rotate it and after watching this video adding the copy rotation constraint just makes complete sense, I will be using this from now.

What is the preferred way to keep the camera distance constant with the object while doing camera roll? Camera on path + path parented to object + camera target? Or something else?
@Chocofur Жыл бұрын
Good question, I think personally I'd put camera on a separate path and use it to control the distance.

I just have to say, i've been doing 3D as hobby for ten years now. Have given up many times over due to lack of motivation and not really going the extra mile to create my portfolio. I'd really like to get back on track and get in the game so to speak. I remember seeing your work years ago and would come back to your website from time to time. If i do decide to go back into this, i'll be purchasing your course, no brainer. Also, just a suggestion. If you could incorporate into this channel more about materials, and lighting.

Hi, I created a matrix sentinel and I was able to make it move with nodes, but I took the head from an adon and added just the tails and moved them. I'm doing a scene of her moving towards me flying, the problem is that I can't make her move towards me, because when I try to do it, the tail falls apart because it is created with the movements (you know what I'm saying about movements). So in this case I need to move the scene? Or is there a way to fix it? I already freaked out a lot and almost deleted everything

Eeeeeh, some of these are cheap tricks, but you should really use these when applicable. Just don't use a dolly zoom or a Dutch angle (rotating the camera) for any shot. They are meant for a different purpose and will quickly seem out of place. Tip: if you do use the follow camera with empty, give the empty and/or the camera a bit of randomness or it will feel too smooth and unnatural. Also, you can just make the object that you want to follow the following object. Meaning, you don't need the empty, it is recommended if you want to do some extra animation to the following command. And you can always parent the empties location to the object you wish to follow as shown in the video.
