Okay for the cake smashing the op overreacted by getting Jim to the ER though i understand since everybody was panicking. In my family we always do this if its expected or unexpected we had the same incident even though it usually always happens we just go ahead have them wash their face and they're fine everyone enjoys it though here Derek should've asked for consent before smashing his head into the cake so Derek is the AH but op did overreact a little.

I disagree, the OP specifically asked Derek to not pull any pranks to not ruin Jim's Bday and clearly Jim was not happy when his face was smashed into the cake. Plus considering Derek pulls pranks often and had the police called upon him by the OP, his pranks aren't nice. It's obvious the OP and Jim just wanted a nice day without his pranks.

@@izzy4604 Personally I agree as well what Derek did was absolutely messed up and the family as well were major assholes they took Derek's side and I doubt they even remotely cared about Jim. OP was the only one who stuck up for him and took him to get medical care if they didn't his eye could've gotten infected.

The birthday boy had his face smashed in his cake and I think it was worse than just a cleaner with water because they had to clean it with something else.
