Omg thank you! Got it at Jack and Jones which I'd never seen before but turns out it's in every European city! Sort of like a Cotton On for boys!

Interesting concept and great execution! You got a new subscriber! If you have some more spare time in and around Cologne i suggest you take a train ride from Cologne to Mainz or Koblenz! The middle rhine area is considered UNESCO world heritage with tons of castles and more! But if you wanna do that. Get a "Deutschland Ticket" from the Bahn! Its 49€ and you can drive trough Germany for a month (excluding IC and ICE (long range trains)) Its subscription based tho so dont forget to cancel it!

And then they say french waiters are rude 😭 I've never seen this, he was totally trying to scam you out of tipping him a lot despite the rudeness. Congratulations Katie the win was deserved, sorry Benny you went through such an uosetting day though, that wasn't fair, you got quite unlucky!

Brother, you don’t tip in Germany. Round up is fine if the service was ok. Also, I like the idea of being guided by others but you missed all the good areas. Remeber, nobody eats pork knuckle

You definitely need some "Kölsch" 101. For the general sense the "Köbes", which is the guy serving the beer is well known for being bad ass unfriendly, he's the king of the brewhouse, it happens that he ignores orders like "a bottle of water" and brings you a beer instead, because well he's the king. It's difficult to transfer their sense of humour to another language. Historically they are depended on the consumption of the beer, they buy the barrel themselves and earn their money from selling the bought barrel in glasses. But to be fair your server was weird as hell, if someone would discuss in that way with me, I wouldn't have tipped him for sure. The "Zülpischer Straße" the guy meant the "Kwartier Latäng", which is an area around the Zülpischer Platz and well known for its clubs and bars. But more a recommendation to end up with an alcoholic poison in stationary care in hospital.

We had definitely been warned about Köbes but weren’t expecting this angry man haha! We were served by so many more while we were in Koln and they all ranged from neutral to friendly - but we found this one so unexpected and funny that we were happy to capture it for the video. Thanks for the clarity about Zülpicher Straße! We thought something must have gotten lost in translation 😂

Some things: the tip to go to Päffgen was indeed very good. It‘s my favourite Kölsch. The waiter didn’t yell at you. He didn‘t even raise his voice. He just passed some information to you. The dish you‘ve had is a sauerbraten, normally not completely bad at Päffgen, but it‘s not for summer (like pork knuckle). Originally, by the way, it‘s made from horse meat, very good, but rare nowadays. Shame! Yours was beef. The waiter was absolutely insolent anyway - asking for a tip! Didn‘t know that Päffgen became such a tourist trap over the years. And „wunderbar“, in fact, is not very common to say. I think it‘s so popular with english-speakers because it sounds so german but is easy to pronounce at the same time. Like „Schnitzel“.

The kölsch was probably my favourite too! Appreciate those notes about the food, I really enjoyed the sauerbraten even if they were a lot for summer but as an Aussie I'm used to eating roast dinners in hot weather. Gonna have to disagree with you about not getting yelled at though. He certainly wasn't using an inside voice! At the very least he was barking.

@@PlannedvsRogue If you‘ll visit Düsseldorf one day, go to Schumacher. It‘s Alt-Beer, of course, but very good. Like Päffgen. Alt and Kölsch are basically the same, both are top-fermented, but Alt is made from dark malt. It tastes a bit more … creamy, I‘d say. Thing is that both Alt and Kölsch are brewn meanwhile to please the taste of the masses, therefore the big brands all taste the same and very few beers taste like they‘re supposed to.
