초호화 인도 결혼식…‘그렇게 돈 쓰다 파산?’ / KBS 2024.07.16.

아시아에서 제일 돈이 많은 인도의 암바니 회장의 막내 아들 결혼식 행사에 전 세계 주요 인사들이 대거 모였습니다. 인도에서는 이렇게 화려하게 결혼식을 하면서 부를 과시하는 경우가 많은데요. 월드이슈에서 홍희정 기자와 함께 자세히 알아보겠습니다. 삼성의 이재용 회장도 결혼식에 참석했다고 하는데, 전 세계 유명인사들이 인도를 찾았죠?

결혼식은 현지 시간으로 13일에 열렸는데요.
15일까지 화려한 축하 피로연이 진행됐습니다.
아시아 최고 갑부 무케시 암바니 회장의 막내아들 결혼식은 인도 뭄바이에서 열렸는데, 전 세계 유명 인사들이 대거 찾았습니다.
인도의 모디 총리가 결혼식 행사에 나타나자 신랑이 거듭 고개를 숙이며 감사를 표합니다.
전 영국 총리인 보리스 존슨과 미국 연예인 킴 카다시안 등 다양한 분야의 유명 인사들이 포착됐습니다.
이재용 삼성전자 회장의 모습도 볼 수 있었는데요.
이번 결혼식 행사는 3월부터 시작됐는데, 구자라트주에서 열린 축하행사에는 팝스타 리아나가 축가를 불렀고, 5월에는 이탈리아에서 프랑스로 이동하는 초호화 크루즈에 하객 8백여 명이 초대됐습니다.
이번 결혼식 행사에서는 미국 팝스타 저스틴 비버가 초청됐는데요.
저스틴 비버는 이번 행사 대가로 1천만 달러, 우리 돈으로 130억 원이 넘는 금액을 받은 것으로 알려졌습니다.
암바니 가문은 일반 시민들을 대거 초청해 식사 대접을 하기도 하고, 형편이 어려운 부부들을 위한 대규모 결혼식을 열어주기도 했는데요.
[다네슈와 카담·바이샬리 켈카/신랑·신부 : "우리 힘으로 (결혼식) 자금을 마련하는 데 시간이 오래 걸렸을 거예요. 아마 1, 2년 정도요. 일반 결혼식 비용은 2백만 원 정도 들었을 거예요."]
이번 결혼식에 하객들을 태운 전용기만 백여 대가 동원됐다고 하는데요.
앞서 암바니 가문은 6년 전에 있었던 딸 결혼식에도 천 백억 원가량을 썼다고 합니다.

인도에서는 이 같은 호화 결혼식 뉴스가 종종 나오는데, 엄청난 재산을 가진 것 같던 부자들이 시간이 지난 후에 파산 소식이 들리는 경우도 있었죠?

인도에서는 결혼식을 통해 경쟁적으로 부를 과시하는 문화가 있다고 하는데요.
엄청난 규모의 부를 자랑하며 결혼식을 올렸다던 인도의 부자들이 이후에 파산하거나 감옥에 가게 됐다는 소식이 전해지기도 합니다.
인도 철강업체를 운영하고 있는 미탈가의 아들 프라모드 미탈은 딸 결혼식에 천억 원의 가까운 돈을 쏟아부어 화제가 됐었는데요.
당시 딸의 초호화 결혼식을 한 것은 형과의 경쟁 때문이었다고 밝혔습니다.
형인 락슈미 미탈이 딸 결혼식에 7백억 원 가량을 쓰자, 지지 않으려고 2백억 원가량을 더 썼다고 했는데요.
이렇게 부를 과시하던 프라모드 미탈은 2020년 파산선고를 받았습니다.
인도 재벌 그룹이었던 사하라 그룹의 수브라타 로이 회장은 2004년 아들 결혼식에 만 명이 넘는 하객을 초대하는 등 대규모 결혼식을 열었는데요.
수브라타 로이 회장은 투자자들에게 투자금을 갚지 않은 혐의로 경찰에 체포돼 감옥에 가게 됐다는 소식이 이후에 전해졌습니다.

이미 파산을 했는데도 화려한 결혼식을 하는 경우도 있어요?
부를 단순히 과시하는 걸 넘어서서 지탄의 대상이 될 수도 있을 텐데요.

이미 파산을 해서 거액의 빚을 지고 있는데도 결혼식만큼은 화려하게 치르는 경우도 있습니다.
인도에서 한때 최대 맥주회사와 항공사를 거느렸던 UBL사의 비제이 말랴는 그룹이 최종 파산한 뒤, 9천억 달러의 은행 빚 소송을 피해 영국으로 달아났는데요.
9백만 건이 넘는 대출 사기 혐의를 받고 있는 비제이 말랴는 인도에서 수배된 상태인데도 지난달 아들의 결혼식을 일주일에 걸쳐 호화롭게 치렀다고 합니다.
인도의 파산한 철강회사 가문도 결혼식을 왕실의 행사처럼 하기 위해 궁전을 개조한 호텔 대부분을 예약했던 것으로 알려졌습니다.
비록 기업이 파산했더라도 여전히 건재하다는 것을 과시하기 위한 것으로 보이는데요.
AFP 통신은 화려한 결혼식을 해야 한다는 인도 사회의 압박도 적지 않다고 지적했습니다.

지금 인도 뭄바이는 폭우로 인해 홍수가 났는데, 이런 가운데 초호화 결혼식이 열리면서 시민들 불만이 속출했다죠?

인도의 경제 수도 뭄바이는 최근 폭우로 시내 곳곳이 침수되고 항공편이 한때 중단되는 등 피해가 속출했는데요.
결혼식이 뭄바이에 열리면서 행사를 위해 교통통제까지 하자 불만이 터져 나왔다고 합니다.
인도 경찰은 결혼식 하객들을 위해 사흘간 결혼식장 주변에 교통 통제를 했는데요.
폭우로 인해 도로 사정이 여의치 않은데, 교통통제까지 하면서 시민들 불편이 더 커진 겁니다.
인도 시민들은 이런 사치스러운 결혼식에 곱지 않은 시선을 보내고 있는데요.
인도 SNS에서는 호화 결혼식에 대한 비판의 목소리가 나오고 있습니다.
인도의 한 야당 정치인은 이렇게 과시하는 지출은 가난한 사람들에게 죄를 짓는 것이라고 비난했습니다.

umm the news already acknolwedged ambani is the richest man in asia at the very beginning. of course everyone knows 90 mil is less than 1percent of his wealth. the news did not say he will go bankrupt. it mentioned there has been instances where wealthy and not so wealthy indians have spent extravagant money to display wealth and have become bankrupt, and that some have fled the country in certain instances. it also reported that some indians were not happy about the rich flexing wealth when the country is going through a tough time. The comments I've seen on that moon landing video are horrible. Koreans criticizing others for not donating money to the poor is ironic, considering they often spend their money on luxury items like watches and bags, which aren't even good investments. Many Koreans can't even afford these luxuries and go into debt to buy them. Koreans are quite racist, and that's one reason why plastic surgery is so prevalent there. They feel pressured to change their appearance to fit certain standards. Instead of spending so much on plastic surgery and luxury items they can't afford, why don't they donate that money to the poor in their own country? Moreover, Korea has high suicide rates and bullying in schools is a common problem. Their country may be developed, but the people's mindset is not.
