I'm Sorry. We had some great talent back in the day. His voice was sooooo sweet and smooth. Those guys were bad. I'm still stuck in the early 70s. Thanks for sharing.

I think of my primo Diego, who died very recently, very suddenly, from a heroin overdose. He was the same age as me today, 22; but we always bonded feeling a little detached from our generation, feeling somehow like ancient gangsters. We were both suckers for all sorts of music, grimy rap, old school rock, but especially funk and old soul. Growing up in Phoenix and DC I always loved oldies, and I’d share with him all my new digs. Right before he passed, I’d catch him getting into them too. This is for the moments I’d play this on his subwoofers and smoke blunts with the windows down just cruisin away young summer days.

@@jamalgraham4561 Actually, when you listen to The Fuzz's album (most of which was written by lead singer Shelia Young) you realize how much Love Unlimited was influenced by their style! Though one of the members died, you can find recent live performances by the other two as well as one with just one original member on KZbin performing "I Love You For All Seasons."

Man this is music. I had the fortune of singing with the Choice 4 when they tried to come back out and let me tell you we still had that sound. Pete, Ted, Orlando and Andre were going to blaze the air but it just seemed like the odds were against us. I miss you brothers Dre I would love to get some of the live shows we did on here, I just might do that if I can find the DVD we recorded. Stay tuned

Orlando and Andre? Were they later members of the group? Just asking because all the albums I have listed Pete, Bobby, Ted and Charles, who has transitioned sadly RIH... All were lead vocalist. That's Bobby singing lead on this song. Pete sings lead on "When you're young and in Love".
@ajax562 жыл бұрын
@thomford3386 Yes, Orlando and I replaced other members who passed or left the group. Pete, my mentor, and Ted were the only original members when we were there.

This cat, (I'm assuming it's Bobby Hamilton?) although not as well known as some of the other lead tenors of the era, in my opinion was probably the prettiest out of all of them and yes, that includes Russell Thompkins. Russell had the diction but this cat sounded like a girl. And I mean that as a compliment. He was a pretty tenor, like Damon Harris. The early 70's was a time for tenors that we had never seen in soul music and have never seen since. We had Russell of The Stylistics, Ted Mills of Blue Magic, Billy Griffin of The Miracles, William Hart of The Delfonics, Billy Brown and Harry Ray of The Moments, Leroy Burgess of Black Ivory, Skip Mahoney of Skip Mahoney & The Casuals, Marvin Brown of The Softones, and Jasper "Jabbo" Phillips of The Temprees. There were a lot of others in lesser-known groups but these are the ones that come to mind. Of course they all owe a lot to the best group-tenor lead that ever lived, Eddie James Kendrick of The Temptations. That was an era of music that we will sadly, never see again.
@yug088 жыл бұрын
Marvin Brown of The Softones has the same sweetness. They are truly phenomenal!
@oldschoolsinger8 жыл бұрын
yug08 You're so right. Marvin Brown would have been a great replacement for Eddie had the Tempts not found Damon.

Indeed.

Don't forget Ron Tyson of the Ethics who later joined and still is with the Temptations.
@oldschoolsinger7 жыл бұрын
knightrider1755 Nope, sorry.....can't do it. I think he's one of the worst tenors ever, and definitely the worst one The Tempts ever had. I'm not familiar with much of the stuff that was done in the later years. Did he ever do a solo?

I wasn't hip to this song til a buddy of mine that I used to sing with let me hear it. The main song I knew by them was "You're So Right For Me". There were some bad-ass tenors back in the day, and this cat was right up there with Eddie, Damon, Billy Brown. Russell, Eugene, William Hart, and all the rest of them. I haven't heard all of their cuts, but I can't imagine any of them being any better than this one. The background was jamminnnn. Greatttt post!!
