Why is gall bladder removal such a popular surgery it should not be this way we need our gallbladder i am sorry some of us who do have stones from fasting for example without any other risk factor mentioned above would love to have some meds to dissolve our stones and move on knowing better than to risk having them why do I need to remove my whole organ when there is a way without surgery and through the use of medication. You don't perform a root canal because there is a cavity on your tooth right how is this any different when uncomplicated..? I seek to understand not to be hateful and also I would like to add that I am grateful for how you explain it is very thorough and informative, thank you!! :)

Great point! While cholecystectomy is the standard treatment, there are other options, although they are not frequently used. There are medications (like Ursodiol) that can dissolve gall stones. Their success depends on the size of the stones and on the patients' symptoms but it may take up to weeks or months for the stones to dissolve. Additionally, stones are likely to recur.
