@QuincyJamesMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@musek5048 I second this, except imo Polyphia’s progression was slightly different than Chon’s. They both were both known as Prog Rock/Metal bands at first but the paths they took following their initial releases were so different from one another. Chon was a straight up like Prog Metal Group on ‘Newborn Sun’ and Polyphia had more of a Metal Core/Neo Classical/Virtuoso sound on ‘Impassion’. Past those two albums they changed significantly, Chon leaned more into being less heavy and more jazzy taking more from core math rock bands and mixing it with their sound, whereas Polyphia looked for ways to fuse their virtuosic playing with Pop/Hook based music which eventually led them to maxing out on the sound achieved on ‘New Levels, New Devils’ This “ProgTrap” thing.

As a fan, I miss CHON - but as a musician, I can't help but support them taking the time they need - even if it means CHON as a band goes the way of the vapor! Uninspired music is a disservice to the band and the fans: if and when the heart of CHON returns, we will see some amazing music from the guys again, and if the heart doesn't return, no one benefits from what would be merely forced music.

Really blessed these young guys are on the break! My son and I started seeing them on their first ever tour (If you want to call it a tour). I met the parents at the small show (Mario and brothers). Nice family. As a So Cal kid playing so much guitar myself, it was a joy to finally put it down for a bit. Constant playing and competitions were tiering for me. I bet they too got so busy with playing and playing they missed on on so many other things in life as young men. The constant music culture not for everyone. I respect my friends that have done it their entire lives! It's quite a life! Different for sure. Talking to Mario over the early years of Chon coming out to my area, I always thought they were just wonderful young men and they wouldn't always be doing the Chon thing. Mucho talent, and with that talent comes a variety of musical opportunities. I am thankful for the wonderful memories of seeing Chon in small rooms in very meek environments with very few people. They are the music makers! Thanks Chon for the beautiful tunes! Beau in AZ! The older guy who was at the shows! haha

While there's no problem in having theories, here's my takes: Brian Evans (Nathan's teacher, also did drums for most of their discography, all improv very impressive guy) stated a lot of stuff on a podcast with Ando San that has since been privated, and Ando San has dissociated from Brian, Erick has publicly stated that the stuff about Sumerian is "untrue," and both Mario and Erick have stated that they have both considered just taking a break from Chon. Life happens, mental and physical health is real -- Erick still posts on his insta consistently, recently released a riff pack you can buy, and Mario is featured on some tracks by some other math-rock styled bands, also with heavy mellow. Maybe they'll return some day. Thanks for this video though -- I'm late to it but you capture the consensus quite well!

I'm wondering if one of the problems they're dealing with is Brian Evans. He's going after Javier Reyes publicly rn over some dispute with the "super chon drums" sample pack they made when tracking the self titled. Brian says it's not about money, he just wants it to stop being sold, but I bet it's a royalty dispute. So I wouldn't be surprised if maybe starting in 2020 given the pandemic times were tough and he tried to renegotiate royalties or splitsheets for the albums/merch, didn't get what he wanted and is now somehow leveraging his weight in their contracts to prevent them from doing anything until he gets what he wants. He made a statement saying "I shouldn't have to take my homies to court to get what I'm owed." In reference to the chon/sumerian drama he started.

Samus (Zero Suit), Metal Peach. I suck at both games so i dont 'main' seriously, but it's all good fun right? I came into this vid because i had no idea Chon had gone on hiatus, and now i'm troubled by the question of if they are a Jazz.. You cleared up the first thing, so thank you! but now i hope there is a follow up video - is Chon a Jazz? and then a follow up to the follow up, If Jazz is an Autobot, Is Chon? Loved this, have a like, and a subscribe

It is all good fun! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Also, thank you. It means a lot. Hopefully if Chon comes back they will answer if they are indeed a Jazz.

Their first ep was very metal. It's not weird that newborn sun sounded the way it did. It took them years to soften to where they were

It seems like there is a lot of legal bs going on behind the scenes we don't know about with sumerian. Maybe not. Either way, even if it's years down the road, I'd be pumped to see the band back together.

Sucks to hear when bands don’t get the money they’ve earned. Whether it’s streaming revenue or merch sales, even ticket sale distributions.. while I love to wear merch (its fun right?) its probably best to just give money directly to the artists through some sort of donation link. Especially for talent and hard work like the guys in Chon.

Honestly if the self titled is the last release from Chon then that's fine with me, I've been following them since 2013. Loved both EPs, Grow had some good tracks, can't say I was a big fan of Homey, but as you said, the self titled was a perfect mix of both albums, along with the EP's sprinkled on top, and it was definitely my favorite work from them by far. I listened to that album non stop when it came out back in 2019, it was too good to put down. If it's the last thing they ever put out then so be it, they went out with an absolute banger!

"I'm just not used to metal from them", I had this vibe when I bought Sugar Ray's "Floored", "Fly" was the SOFTEST SONG, and don't get me wrong, 12 year old me was head bangin, suprised, but head bangin.
