It could explain the final scene in the last trailer with Shez having the advantage on Byleth. Could be that Shez gets corrupted with power and the perspective may shift onto Byleth. But then that depends if Byleth even meets the lords in 1180 like they initially were meant to. Other than Claude, i’m not expecting any of the lords to assist Byleth if Shez makes a 180 when they’ve bonded with (by the look of it) Shez.

It's interesting to think if it's Monica we're getting or actually Kronya. Given that Monica is kidnapped and presumably killed about a year prior to Three Houses, chronologically it would make sense for the person in Three Hopes to actually be Kronya. Although, given that Shez is also introduced a year prior to Three Houses' opening, maybe there's a timeline difference whwre he ends up saving Monica somehow? Could be any number of changes with a new timeline honestly.

Could be that perhaps... Shez being imbued with Arval means they don't feel like they need Monica anymore. Perhaps they think they can control Shez whenever they want to so they're not concerned by it so Monica ends up surviving. I'm pretty sure Shez won't be evil, but may be temporarily controlled at some point. The context behind Byleth is all about pre-Three Houses, so by the time Byleth and Shez fight in the original trailer Byleth is more than likely friendly by that point especially considering Byleth has the green hair by then.

They could honestly go either way and I'm very curious to see what they choose. Assuming she is Kronya for a second, does that mean she'll eventually betray you and you'd lose her as a playable unit? I know some people ran into that when they played 3H for the first time and went the Black Eagle's route, not knowing what would eventually happen.

I think that actual Kronya will simply be a playable character on ber own alongside Thales because villains are usually playable in Musuo Games.

Yeah I had done an Azure Moon and Silver Snow run (and Ashen Wolves) in the past… the Three Hopes first trailer made me stop playing Dragon Quest to pick up 3H again and do a Verdant Wind run (halfway through that) and maybe Crimson Flower if I have time.

One theory I just thought of as soon as the year of when the battle between Byleth and Shez took place was that Monica also disappeared in the same year. Perhaps we as Shez could somehow save the real Monica from her doom from the Agarthans as a way of explaining her role in 3 Hopes? It would make for an interesting set of events that tie in the theme of revenge in Fodlan, where in the canon, since Shez died, they may not have been able to save Monica later down the road, and we all know how it plays out from there.

Headcanon: Byleth kills Shez, explaining why they aren't present in 3H. Then 3H occurs, Byleth goes through all the routes multiple times, trying to get the golden ending. They then decide "What about that one purple-haired guy/girl I killed is the key?" they go back a bit further and spare them, changing the timeline.

I'm so back and forth on how I feel about Shez being our character and "replacing" Byleth. I honestly loved Byleths character and interactions with the lords/students. As interesting as im sure it will be to experience Byleth as the villian instead of the hero, im worried they will destroy pre existing lore created in 3 houses. It feels strange to have this be a COMPLETELY separate stand alone time line/ paradox/dimension? I hope they somehow explain why things are this way and not the original way if that makes sense and maybe tie the two together somehow? I hope they flesh out alittle more about those who slither in the dark and twisted and all that. I know I shouldn't expect much from a warriors game...but I can't help myself. I was obsessed with 3 houses and im salivating for more story, more lore, and more background. I'll take anything at this point...I just don't want them to ruin the magic 3 houses created for me.

Hilda's new look is pretty solid, like how it seems more combat oriented as her original timeskip look was more casual. Also didn't notice this before, but looking back on the duel in Ailel from the first trailer I saw something interesting. Initially Shev looks normal while Byleth has received Sothis' power. However after he breaks through Byleth's sword, he's glowing and has the same facial pattern as Arval. Makes me curious when this will happen in the story, maybe a turning point where we find out what exactly is the deal with Arval? Or maybe it's just the equivalent of the chapter in 3H where Byleth unlocks their promotion.

I'm pretty excited, but that's because I generally don't expect anything _too_ crazy from the story- fun/interesting character interactions and gameplay is what I'm mostly looking forward to. If the story is good it'll be the cherry on top, but after the Fates hype cycle I've learned to keep my expectations in check lol

You shouldn't expect TOO much from the story. It is a Warriors Game after all. Keep your expectations low and you can't be disappointed. Well, at the very least, we'll get some awesome moments and cutscenes, that's what they always deliver on. You just shouldn't expect any of them to be coherent with the established story of Three Houses.

Theory, Byleth keeps trying to get a golden ending. Arval is some sort of architect of fate who is unhappy with this and conscripts Shez to act as their personal agent to derail Byleth's attempts to change the outcomes of events. Part of thos involves cutting Byleth off from the House Leaders and the sword of the creator and having Shez befriend the House Leaders to turn them against Byleth. If Byleth is going to be playable it would probably either be very late game or in some hidden route where the tables get turned on Arval.

I am SO HAPPY they are using the class system for the movesets instead of giving everyone their own moveset. This actually makes it so the roster can theoretically be huge as the models for this game are rigged specifically for this purpose. This is EXACTLY what they should have done with the original game.

Something worth noting at 2:29 Shez has the same facial markings as Arval, which might mean that Arval is controlling or strongly influencing Shez at that moment. I wonder if this means that we'll have a Grima-type situation: Arval just wants Shez as a host so that they can fully manifest into the world and is just lying about being their 'closest ally'

Perhaps Shez was meant to side with the house that the player a.k.a Byleth did not choose in Three Houses, and perhaps the event in Three Hopes occured during the time where Byleth were sleeping for 5 years. in the trailer, there’s also a quote that says Shez was meant to be forgotten in the history, perhaps he died or sacrificed himself in some kind of battle? but then how did Shez manage to fight green hair Byleth? Perhaps it happens off screen? So many questions that makes me more excited about this game

So this is why they suddenly have the chance to lead one of the houses. It's also possible OP is correct that Shez will lead a house Byleth doesn't pick. I had actually guessed that about a week ago, myself, before we even knew Shez name.

@@CometX-ing Whilst your headcannon is probably most flexible timeline and story -wise. I feel like it would be the most boring option. I rather prefer that Shez existed all along. and was just intentionally hiding. I'd like to think that Shez is an Agarthan whom is the Zeke/Lorenz archetype of the TWSITD we never gotten in 3 houses. Since in all 3 houses route there are members of those who slither in the dark that aren't accounted for. Maybe Shez have something to do with that. Such as in Silver Snow and Verdant wind where Cornelia just disappeared. Blue Lion where A bunch of random mooks ran away after Mason's death. And Black eagle route where, Those who Slither are more of an after thought. maybe Shez is related to those events, like maybe Shez's AzureGleen route is diverges to 2 where they helped Dimitri keep his sanity when Byleth took the Crimson Flower route. Or maybe Shey abandoned Dimitri in Silver Snow. Or maybe Shez is the person whom awaken Nemesis is Verdant Wind route, to wreck the Almyran noble for some reason. maybe in the Azure moon route of 3 houses, Shez has manage to helped the Agarthans in Shambhala. Shez as a infiltration unit of TWSITD whom began with good intention and began to grow as a better person thanks to the lords of the houses, however is unable to let go of their duel against Byleth can be a great parallel to Byleth that started as a stiff faceless into a more well rounded person. It would be also a great parallel to Sothis and Arval.

I'm cautiously optimistic but I always am. The big issue I am having so far is how it seems Shez is replacing Byleth despite Byleth being such a big thing in the paths you take in FE3H's. Is Byleth now obsolete to the lords with even Edelgard making a big deal of Shez, or did Shez change so much of the plot in that one year they had time powers that it made Byleth's role in the plot much less necessary? With the routes being split again it makes me hope IS/Koei didn't bite off more than they can choose as it seems they are almost doing a rewrite of the original story. How they handle this is going to affect my optimism going forward for the series.

I did hear some rumor somewhere on Discord mentioning Shez being a free resplendent-esque character in Heroes, as a preorder bonus for the game (physical). The resplendent part comes in where both genders co-exist as 1 unit, but you can change the gender of the Shez you get to what you prefer.

Fe3h was my very first FE game and it got me into the entire series and I grew so attached to byleth when I played through all the routes and dlc. I am low-key sad that byleth will probably not meet any of the lords 😭 But I low-key do miss Rhea's obsession with the MC. It would be hard to pick any route bc there are good characters in all of them and they look AMAZING. Shez is gonna make me sad and petty everytime i use them, I miss byleth 😭 But overall great gane and I can not wait.

My guess is Byleth will be a protagonist midway. With some time traveling shenanigans, its possible. My guess is that Byleth time travelled so much to find the perfect ending that somehow Shez became an irregularity that will have a butterfly effect on the results Byleth is probably looking for. Doesn't make sense to add Byleth's gender selection just to make him/her an antagonist entirely, and the game wouldn't solve any plot opens we had in the first game.

I absolutely fell in love with the new Dimitri design but that’s not so hard to accomplish since everyone was already in love with Dimitri. Dedue’s look is definitely my second favorite though, maybe a little Blue Lions favoritism, but I just think the facial hair is so clean. Also because I think Hubert and Claude look a bit same-y to their original designs, and Hilda’s is sort of cluttered. Edelgard looks nice though! But that’s all a bit nitpicky, these new designs are my favorite part of this game so far!!

The only thing I dislike about Edelgard new design is the annoying thigh windows. She was a pretty well designed character before but now they seemingly gave in to the "female character fan service skin windows" thing that I hated. Hilda is always very fan service in design. But I had preferred Edelgard design pre thigh windows.

To me, Edelgard was more mature and never needed to be a fan service design. Alas, we can't have everything lolol

Really love the more mature look of Dimitri, Dedue and Hilda. Hubert is always my goth boy. Claude looks a bit too samey for my tastes tho. Edelgard has a great new hairstyle (I never liked the golden horns much), but I dislike the thigh windows of her new design, unfortunately. Mercedes was gorgeous in the new screenshot and trailer. And I'll admit, Lorenz and his purple hair will always be funny to me, as much as I love the guy.

I’m super hyped for this game, but my expectations are also not too high, if that makes sense. The choice for a new, speaking player character is a huge step in the right direction for me and in this case, giving Byleth a new role is also helping to make them into a much more interesting character too. That alone makes me more interested in this game than I thought I would be lol.

i'm completely in agreement with you on this. i had only recently started digging for more info (i wanted to try and be a fresh faced when i obtained the game as possible) but curiosity won out, so when i heard that we were getting a new mc and Byleth was going to be an enemy i was shocked and a bit saddened. i hoping that they stay true to most of the game mechanics as well and making sure they that don't over complicate this "new timeline" by going against too many things from three houses, or trying to add things that end up being confusing (which can happen if you're going for the angle that they seem to be going for) however i think that if they do it right ie, the story is well written, things are well explained and fit with each other (as well as what we already know from three houses) then i think it could be really good. but im still more than i a little bit worried. Claude is one of my fav characters of three houses so im loving his design

Great analysis videos, Faerghast. The designs of Dedue and Dimitri, and Lorenz and Mercedes strike me best, and I'm itching to see the others. It would be awesome for me if the Ashen Wolves could come back, too. Also, while the english names only sometimes correspond to the japanese, the new protagonists' name is pronounced as it's written, "shez." As for the story, I am trying to keep my expectations low, but to me it is neat that they're trying to do something new by tapping into parts of the original 3H that weren't explored, instead of simply rewriting the game. Of course, it could still do just that anyway with even a tiny mistake; but if not, it could expand the universe, even humble you and make you question what you believed in the original game.

I'm still thinking this is a "what if...?" scenario, where Byleth beat Shez in the past before Three Houses, and then Shez is saved and transported to an alternate timeline, where Byleth wasn't the noble merc who did everything to protect their students and end the war, but instead got corrupted in some way, using their power over the church to try and take over Fodlan. If it's truely a direct sequal, prequal or something in between, i think it kinda feels like character assassination to suddenly make the "real" Byleth into a villain... So i'm all for split timelines or "what if...?, but it shouldn't be directly connected in my opinion...

What im curious about is, how the "Chose your team" is gonna work In 3 houses, theres plenty of replay value, but in the original warriors a full playthrough was a lot longer.. though thats only when including history mode. I only have 2 prior experiences with this genre, and Fire Emblem Warriors 1, is the only "Official" title (the other isnt affiliated to my knowledge, its just similar), so i have no clue how thats gonna end up working... and am therefore both excited... and anxious.

My guess is that this is a new Divine Pulse timeline where Byleth kept Jeralt away from Garreg Mach fearing his death, and thus never became a professor. If Byleth isn’t at Garreg Mach, Shez would have no issue going there. Perhaps Shez’s battle with Byleth in 1179 happened in Three Houses, and we never knew because maybe Shez wanted to steer clear of Byleth and thus never went to Garreg Mach. In Three Hopes, Byleth would’ve never acquired the Sword of the Creator, but likely retains their relationship with Sothis and somehow the ability to transform into the Enlightened One. Hypothetically, if Byleth is unable to rewind time to before they first meet Sothis, this could still work if Byleth persuades Jeralt to stay away from Garreg Mach. Maybe then the three lords know who Byleth is, but obviously don’t have the relationship they developed in Three Houses.

Dimitri and Dedue's designs are obviously the best out of the three. What I'm excited to see however, is how they plan on making Edelgard likable. It won't be easy but I'm hoping they find a way to do it.

I kind of love that the new protagonist isn't some particularly special big hero (at least so far) but rather a student with a grudge against Byleth. So does Byleth still become a professor in this timeline? If so, does Byleth end up teaching one of the classes you don't choose? The story potential is intriguing. How much of this game takes place during the war phase anyway (or post school phase depending on how it works out)? And the gameplay mechanics reveal really have caught my interest. I thought it was cool that the protag could change classes...but MOST of the playable characters can??? The amount of customization possibilities could get really wild here, and also makes me wonder if a run through a route might be shorter than your typical Warriors game. Granted I've really only played the Hyrule Warriors and those are special beasts unto themselves. I'm loving all the character redesigns. I have to give a nod to Hubert's new look. I was never a big fan of his but his redesign really works for him. My absolute favorite though...it's kind of a community meme at this point but I've got to give it to Mercedes and her new hair. Her post-timeskip look in the original game made sense narratively I suppose, but man I just did not like it. This one looks so much better to me.

I think Byleth's just a huge bait and switch, pardon the pun. I think Shez and Byleth will have divergent paths that converge with the player having the option to choose whom they ultimately want to prevail - Sothis or Arval.

After Age of Calamity I approach the story of Warriors games like this with caution. For instance the story premise here sounds like "What if the House Leaders were saved by someone else before they made it to Remire." That sounds like another fan fic idea similar to how Age of Calamity ended up being a fix fic.

My theory that the Byleth we're fighting against is isn't the real Byleth is someone different , the only person who can change form is Monica has the ability to change what ever she wants , so what if is Monica is pretending to be Byleth that night that Shez fought that year ago ? I don’t care for Shez and what we know about them so far. Also not a big fan of when a side game completely throws away a huge part of the base game’s main character for the sake of their OC being plot important and the protagonist. Overall I was more excited with the first trailer, the second one and the little story details we learned make me less so. Gonna be very disappointed if Byleth ends up being truly an antagonist because it feels extremely OOC and forced. Just because they were once a mercenary doesn’t mean they were evil because of it. We know Byleth does care about people even before they meet the lords, they just never could express it and were deemed heartless because of that. If this game truly makes Byleth suddenly a cold, ruthless, mercenary and nothing else, that will be very very disappointing.

I have some questions that I hope will get some answering once the game releases: 1. According to the most recent news, we can assume that Shez was killed a year before Byleth encounter the Three Lords. But if they've survived because of this new god, then why did it happen now? Why did this god decide to appear in this timeline to save Shez? 2. Does Byleth never reach the Monastery? Their hair was green in the first trailer, yet they weren't carrying the Sword of the Creator. 3. Will the Ashen Wolves be involved in the story this time around? In FE3H, the Ashen Wolves didn't really play a major part in the main story. So let's say that Byleth never reaches the Monastery, will they end up getting in our way? 4. How can the timeline change this much after Shez encounters the Three Lords? I have a hard time believing that all of these Lords are changing their goals from the main game because of Shez's appearance.

For the last one, if Rhea and the Agarthan's figure out about Shez's whole God thing they'll change their plans immediately and the leaders will have to adapt. That's what happened once they figured out Byleth was connected to Sothis after all.

If anyone's curious how Shez's name should be pronounced, their JP name is シェズ which would be pronounced with a hard z. Sheh-zu. If that's still not completely clear, just copy-paste it into google translate and use the inbuilt listen function.

I'm extremely curious and cautiously optimistic about this game. It looks good! And the Warriors team makes REALLY good games when, ironically, not working in their own franchise. (Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors 2 being excellent examples.) As for fave redesign? Tie between Hubert and Dedue. Dedue looks so badass and I have a teeny tiny MASSIVE crush on Hubert but I like his hair longer. ;)
