Nah. English is my second language too. There's no reason for this. They were trying for a "euro accent" type review or something when choosing this guy. Sorry... Didn't work. I'd be real nice to him if I met him and all(have a drink with him have a merry time etc), but he doesn't have the chops for oral reviewing. It's not a question of it being a second language really. He'd probably fumble around with his words in French too. Oratory or public speaking skills is the issue. Listen to a candid speech from Canada's current prime minister and you'll see what I mean. He's perfectly bilingual (French/English) and still sounds like a Neanderthal when addressing a crowd. It's an affliction. 👍

An absolutely beautiful boat. I think these Exploration designs are probably the best out there. My one complaint was that when looking around below deck, it was very hard to get a feel for where the berths were. The camera needs a wider angle lens so we can see the layout better. I couldn't tell if the forward berth was parallel or right angles to the boat and were is the second berth they looked at? I thought it was port, aft, but then there seemed to be another room port, aft with access to the rudder mechanism. Just a bit hazy about the layout inside. (Guess I'll have to go to the website to find out.)

Great boat, but still trying to find a KZbin review of the Garcia's where they put some time in to the engine room. Seems like a bit of wasted space on the sugar scoop area that could have been used for maybe more aft lockers or more interior aft cabin space, and wonder also if twin helm is really that important on a 52' Expedition sailboat,, when you look at the design of the HR 54 as example. I could imagine more support on the Arch for solar panels and make it more robust, and a better design for the tender lifting device as that system doesn't look very heavy duty.
@corujariousa4 жыл бұрын
This is certainly a high quality yacht. I wish Garcia had created a layout with an engine room as spacious and as of easy access as the Amel/Discovery/Oyster though. The same goes for the heads. Then we’d have an almost perfect yacht, in my opinion of course. Thanks for the video.

@Eddie Murray because "superyacht" isn't defined by it's pricing. And if it would be by price, this Garcia 52 wouldn't be a superyacht. Common view on this topic says, that superyachts starting almost at a size of 100/130 feet. 1.000.000 for a yacht around 52 feet, especially with a aluminium hull, full equipped, isn't a "super" money. It's common pricing.

This is the perfect ideal SV Yacht...It will outlast most owners and go anywhere. This one is also rated as an ice breaker to a small degree. With wind, solar and hydro you have all the power you would ever need without a generator, although I would still want a generator as a redundant backup. He didn't touch on an A/c Unit which I would think would be needed in tropical humid area's, but I am sure its an option. Beautiful Yacht and a can go anywhere Sailing vessel (SV)

I always heard that concern from old salts 30+ years ago about "those modern" boats. I like how practicality is kept in focus, while a british would scream for more natural light and sun, these guys thought of how to keep the saloon cool while maintaining visibility. Not necessarily what many buyers want but it is what they need. Other things are less thought through, the galley may have been influenced by regatta sailors, more for fast meals of low quality, less for a month of mid ocean quality time.

There's a lot of headroom in the port side, but on the starboard side and the centre of the saloon there's much less because of the centreboard configuration. I wasn't impressed by the outside helm station position on the 45 as you couldn't even see forward but they have done a much nicer job of it on the 52. I still think that the sail controls are overly complicated and would be impossible to control from the pilot house and would require you to go right to the back of the boat to make even minor sail adjustments. While I don't like the look of the windows from the outside as it sort of ruins the lines of the boat, they are probably the most practical of any I've seen on modern boats and I like the interior pilot station even if you can't adjust the sails from there. The engine room is minuscule for a 52' boat and I don't like that you have to access it from inside the cabin - after a few years, you'll be smelling diesel. Still, it is a beautiful boat and it would be on my list to look at if I was looking for a new boat. Nice review too...

Oceanvolt electric engine, no need to repair, maintain, and no diesel smell! Easy solution. haha
@steveburton58254 жыл бұрын
@@kentwood2914 I'm a big fan of electrics but not for cruising boats just yet. The top motor on a OV system is 15KW (20 HP). That wouldn't push that Garcia at anything like hull speed and while I don't know how much their battery packs cost, but I'd wager that to replace the range of the diesel in the boat even with say 50% regeneration, would be north of 1000Ah at 48V assuming that the 15KW motor could push the boat at 5 knots (I highly doubt it). My guess is that you'd be spending >>> $10K just for the batteries to get less than half the range. plus you'd have an engine that couldn't drive the boat off a lee shore in a storm Haha...
@kentwood29144 жыл бұрын
@@steveburton5825 Oceanvolt AXC40 is 40 kW and according to a Garcia 52 owner, he swears it's as strong as a 150 hp diesel. I've been consulting directly with Oceanvolt engineering to make sure I spec the motors properly. But, a 15kW electric will push any boat better than a diesel that won't start when you need it to...one of the most common safety problems in all of sailing! It's takes less than 1.00-1.50 seconds to recognize the need for instant power and have the prop at full speed with an electric engine, it takes 4-5 times longer to crank up a diesel and realize needed emergency thrust, because one hand is busy crossing it's fingers hoping it will start. haha
@steveburton58254 жыл бұрын
@@kentwood2914 Sorry, but a 40KW motor is not remotely equivalent to a 150 HP. The relationship between HP and KW is defined by by physics and and Is 1.34HP/KW so your 40KW motor is equivalent to a 53.5 HP motor. A 150HP motor is equivalent to 110KW. Granted you don't run most diesels at their rated HP but even at 2000 RPM, a 150HP motor will be producing 87KW. You can't fight physics (and I have a degree in Physics). Look, a 40KW motor at 48VDC requires an 833Ah battery bank (discharged down to zero), just to run it for ONE hour. That's equivalent to THIRTY THREE 50A, 24VDC Battleborn batteries at $1K/each - for ONE HOUR!!!. You'd need 4.5KW of solar panels running all day on a very good day just to charge them. That's 245 sq feet of very high efficiency Panasonic panels. That's basically the entire surface area of the Garcia 52 WITHOUT considering that most of that is shaded by sails (which reduces the output to nearly zero). Again for ONE HOUR - sorry but just not realistic. NOTHING about sailing requires instantaneous power and diesels are very reliable neededing only fuel and air to work. I'll put the reliablility of a diesel with hundreds of thousands of installations that I can get fixed anywhere in the world up against a relatively unproven electric motor/drive system in a marine environment any day of the week. Besides, if you wait until you are 5 seconds away from needing your engine to fire up your engine, you don't belong on the water in the first place. Haha.
@kentwood29144 жыл бұрын
@@steveburton5825 Combining physics and opinion in the same dialogue seems kinda silly. No one will ever convince you beyond what you convince yourself of...I've been on more than one diesel powered sailboat that didn't fire when necessary and almost every cruiser I've ever run across runs into engine issues far more often than any electric engine user. Enough said. Enjoy what you love. Good chatting.
