The diamond rat miners just spawn a response fleet as soon as you land on grid, it has nothing to do with another player aggroing them. If you have low enough standings to be hostile to them, the miners will immediately begin to warp out, and the response fleet will land shortly after. You can tell if the miners are going to warp out (and thus, if the response fleet is inbound) by watching the miners' velocities. I never stick around on a belt with diamond miners if they're red to me.

Ah yes, that's a very good point. I knew not to linger on a grid with hostile diamond miners lest the fleet arrive, but I somehow hadn't put two and two together to realize that that was what had probably happened on that belt in Adeel.

Except when you're just coming back from station where you dropped your full hold of ore, the miners arrived when you were away, and there was another player with low standings, as happened to me.

You might try to research those pattern to at least 5% and 10% since it takes very little time to do that and will save you some materials.
