Great info! This relieved some of my hesitant plant mom guilt after I was recently gifted with an orchid that was crammed into a 4" pot without air holes. I only bought a 6" one with the air holes and thought I hadn't bought one big enough. Nope, we're good here. Thanks so much!

what if the roots spread wide and won't fit in a container unless it is wide? But then gain some roots are long and won't fit in a wide but short container? Can I manually bend the roots to fit it in container? I think the top portion of the roots is exposed too much and I need to repot. It was doing fine as is, but suddenly some leaves started going soft while being regularly watered. I can't identify the problem.

Yes, just make sure the roots are well hydrated before bending. Otherwise, they might snap.

In the wild, the roots anchor the plant. But whether in the wild or in a pot in your home, the aerial roots absorb moisture from the air and photosynthesize like a green leaf. So the air roots do support the plant in multiple ways. For the best health of your orchid, don’t cut them off! I even like how they look because they make an orchid look natural.

what if it is watered regularly and leaves looked good but some leaves started going limp while the others remain healthy? so far 3 are healthy one is going limp and I already cut off another limp leave few days ago. They were all healthy before that. The medium is fresh and was replaced 3 months ago
