P88 for lasers and bar downs. Open toe curves like the other two are for guy who park on top of the crease. Closed toe or "slightly open" is for the sharp shooters the way I see it. I can still go top shelf from inside the crease with an 88. You just have to know how to use it. The open toe curves I feel like I need to slow my shot down to keep the puck on the blade to the end before it flings off the top and over the net.
@StickTalk8 Жыл бұрын
I find it just really depends on where on the blade you shoot from, if you were taught to shoot off the toe then pick something like the p28, if off the heel then either the p88 or p91
@KT_Hockey Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m a forward and use p88. I understand how difficult it would be to use a p88 curve after already getting used to other types of curves. I’ve used it my whole life and it works for me. Great video.
@StickTalk8 Жыл бұрын
If you’re used to it and like it there is no point to change unless you want to experiment but that is an extremely slippery slope lol and thank you!

Same. Grew up with the "Iginla" curve. p88 is close enough and I can get any sort of shot off with it.

P88 is my personal favourite, so much more shooting control for every type of shot including backhands! Don’t need big curves to do toe drags, Crosby’s blade is almost flat!
@StickTalk8 Жыл бұрын
It definitely is personal preference! I just can’t get used to not having any curve near the toe but I’m glad to hear you enjoy the p88!
@bryantTheFatBadger Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Maybe it's b/c I was a D, but I feel the P88 is the best pattern for accuracy in both shots and especially passes. I also think it might appeal to those of us that grew up with wood sticks/blades where we learned to pass and shoot from the heel. Sticks nowadays are so flexible and advanced, that they don't even teach the 'egg method' of passing (give and receive) - it's basically just slap everything...
@CAVEMANsean Жыл бұрын
@@bryantTheFatBadger it gives you more forgiveness on stick handling and receiving a pass. Feel like throwing some sauce is a little easier too
@cglasford1 Жыл бұрын
its really interesting because what he uses and what the stick you buy at the store with his name on it is are pretty different. Per Pure hockey: Sidney Crosby uses a CCM P29 curve. This Hockey Stick Blade is one of the most popular in the game today and features a deep mid-curve allowing for great stickhandling and puck control. but like you said if you google his curve its basically a flatter heel curve
@cglasford1 Жыл бұрын
@@bryantTheFatBadger honestly its really tough to find a youth stick in a P88 curve. If I had to guess 80-90% come stock with the P92 or the equivalent. I've never seen an option for anything else until intermediate level sticks, I'm sure they are out there. especially if you are willing to buy your 6-8 yr old a $250+ stick but the normal priced ones $50-100 Youth and junior sticks are almost all P92/29/WO3

@phuesler Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ayden for continuously providing great hockey content. I think I might even prefer the voice over version of the videos. Growing up playing with wooden sticks, I gravitated to the P88 when I got back into the game. I since moved on to P92 and P28, because I think they are better for modern shooting, where you use the flex of the blade to generate more power. One thing that bothers me about the P28 is the risk of the puck flying into the stands if you hit at the wrong part of the blade. Therefore I‘ve settled for the P92. Boring is good, predictable and reliable. And you can get it pretty much anywhere.
@StickTalk8 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words and continuing to support my channel, I’ll keep mixing in both kinds of videos in the future! As for the curve boring is definitely good, always know what you’re going to get!

88 is life. So balanced, can do everything very well. May not excel in any specific area but provides lots of tools in the box for sure. I've struggled with the newer patterns hitting the net. Missiles, but off the glass constantly😅
@StickTalk810 ай бұрын
That’s how I feel using the p92, it really depends on the first few sticks you use when you start playing for sure. The bigger toe hooks that are coming out now definitely take a little while to get used to
@Hartwell1011 ай бұрын
You hit the nail on the head for the P92. Its just good at everything but isn't great at anything. Its definitely a boring curve, but there is a reason why its the most popular/widely used curve there is. Its just so consistent. If you want a curve that will elevate your stick handling, go P28. if you want consistency and easier shooting, P92 is your curve.
@StickTalk811 ай бұрын
I've been picking the p90t recently because its exactly like the p92 but with a bit more toe so its a little more fun
@mike72ulyasАй бұрын
what do you mean by consistency? with shooting? with stick handling? or both? i have a p29 and p90tm, might switch to the p28 but am scared i wont be able to stick handle good because of it being a big toe curve. how do you think they compare?
@Hartwell10Ай бұрын
@@mike72ulyas P28 is better for stick handling. P28 has more toe, but its also got a flatter heal than the P92 does. Which helps for stick handling. The P92 curve starts further back on the blade closer to the heel, which isnt horrible for stick handling. But its just okay. The P92 is the "just okay" curve. Its strength is being decent at everything.

I just bought a p28 today and tried it for the first time. After 2 hours I still couldn’t really get the feel for it other than momentarily but your explanation of the lie change just made so much sense. I gotta cut like 2-3 cm off the shaft and it’ll be perfect. I also went from low kick to mid kick at the same time and this stick is currently slightly taller so I’m looking to cut it down to like 1-2 cm taller than my last stick. Before I had a p90tm so the toe is what I keep using right now and the tape wear says it all. The heel feels kinda awkward for now

In my experience with the p88 the pocket of the curve is more towards the heel of the stick and I find it’s better to shoot from more towards the heel than midway through the blade but yes it is a great curve for sweeping wrist shots!

What changes do you make to your release with the p28 when you want to shoot low?
@GeorgeJefferson-h7w Жыл бұрын
slap it off the heal and stop your follow through. If you roll the puck up those open faced curves it's going to sail on you every time. I grew up with the Iginla curve but now use the p88 which seems close as I can easily find. There is no shot I can't take with it. It's super nice for backhanders too.
@StickTalk8 Жыл бұрын
I find as long as I follow through with my blade closed rather than open its much easier to shoot low!

Used a p92 for the longest while but as a defenseman found it annoying how hard it was to keep shots low. Just switched to a p88 tracer and I like it and still getting used to it but find it harder now to get power on the shots. Also my first mid kick stick in a while any tips? Or will my shot get back to how it was with my p92 agent once I get more confidence?
@StickTalk84 ай бұрын
If anything you should feel more shot power on your wrist and slap shots with your tracer once you get used to it! Your shot will definitely get back to where it is once you get used to it, your slap shot will definitely feel stronger but you may notice a dip in your snapshot considering it’s a mid kick!

I use P88 Kane and it’s very nice for me as a puck moving/stay at home defender, it’s great for passing/flat saucers and puck handling because it is super flat but shooting isn’t the way to go with P88 in general (because it is pretty flat) based off my experiences

lmao, i have p88 and no u dont shoot off the heal lol wtf? the puck should always come off the toe as it leaves ur blade no matter what blade ur using to put spin on the puck and get a perfectly horizontal puck in flight so it keeps its momentum and p28 and p29 have too much of a toe curve causes puck to go flying over the net, basically p29 and p28 are for weak ass kids who cant lift the puck so it helps them lol

I’m glad the p88 works for you but I’d have to say your wrong about the p92 or p28 being for weak ass kids considering over half of the nhl is currently using one of those curves or a variation of it. Ovechkin uses one of the biggest curves in the league so would he then be a weak ass kid? Respectfully a bad take on your part.
