I fully recommend the jebao / jecod range of DC low wattage variflow pumps as I have used mine over last year . previously I had the jebao XTP 8 & 10.000 pump's running and noticed the difference in running costs before the energy cost rising . The one DCP 15.000 I swopped over to is cheaper to run and added extra is the vari flow facility. My pond holds approximately 4 .700 UK gallons . This pump has powered my pond and filters / bog filter even on low power settings during UK winter with no issues .

I recently bought a new piece of property and will be building a house on it soon. After the house comes the pond. But I think I am going to go BIG. Like really big. I want to have a section on the back side of the pond that people can jump off a small cliff/waterfall into the pond. I plan on doing a bog filter system down the side of the property to hopefully ensure enough filtration. So I will be watching you videos like crazy. I definitely cant afford a what a builder would charge so I am going to do it myself.

Sounds awesome! If it’s something you’ve never done before you should start out with a small pond. If you can create the desired results in a small body of water, you’ll be able to replicate it on a larger scale. Just my opinion 👍

Last year, Was soooo inspired by your bog filter we made one for our wayer bowl. Bought a Hozelock Cascade 1500 - 3354 Waterfall & Fountain 240V Pond Pump especially for it. Looked forward to "set and forget". Every day, the pump flow decreases and decreases and needs to be turned up repeatedly. There is nothing blocking the pump casing and the pump is frequently rinsed just to be sure. Your bog filter is a great idea, but this pump is a nightmare!
@Ozponds Жыл бұрын
Is the bog clogged? If the water isn’t flowing easily up through it that could be causing the back pressure on the pump. Try running the pump so it doesn’t pass water through the bog. That will give you the answer. Either bog needs a clean or pump is rubbish.
@tarawhite6305 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kev - greatly appreciated! 👍 Your bog is great! Pump max flow is 4lt/min = 240lt/hr not 1500lt/hr as stated. So you are correct, pump is rubbish. What do you recommend? Thanks 😊

I once had to climb into a mine site sewer and retrieve a submersible pump which failed (and so did the rope it was attached to) to pull it out. I drew the short straw and got the duty, I stripped down to my underwear and they went in the bin afterward. .. At least I got paid well to do it.

Cheers 👍. $4000 for the largest model but it’s saying it will deliver between 5000-70,000 litres per hour. For an output range of 20-750 watts. That’s substantially less efficient than the model you have. $3,449 for the junior model. Output 2000- 40,000 litres per hour at 20-370 watt. Still not bad for an external pump 👍 much better than most pool pumps that’s for sure.
@MrCites1 Жыл бұрын
@@Ozponds I have the Flow friend Pro- they may not have imported this model. I do have the Standard on one of my ponds, it’s running at 430watts for 52,000 lph currently- zero noise.
@Ozponds Жыл бұрын
That’s really, really good. My favourite submersibles will do 15,000 @ 105w. So to get an external close to that is very impressive 👍
@bobprivate85754 ай бұрын
re: using irrigation pumps, etc One horsepower is 746 watts. Plus no pump is 100% efficient, so electricity consumed will end up being even higher. If you're choosing a pump that is rated in horsepower, your power bill is going to take a serious hit. Irrigation pumps and sump pumps are intended for infrequent usage, so efficiency is not a very high priority in their design. The DC pumps that Ozponds recommends, the 15,000 liter/hour model linked from his website, is rated at 105 watts. Contrast this to a 1/2HP pump that will probably draw at least 400W.

Hi Kev, love your channel! A place of peace and relaxation amidst all those screamy commercial fellows... Since childhood I dreamed about my own pond with stream. Now, at 45, it's finally due! Maybe you have a good guess for the pump I should buy. It has to pump the water about 24 far and about 1,7 m high. Aiming for a stream around 40 cm wide and the pond is about 6 m³. The upper small pond around 1 m³. If you can help, don't hessitate to charge some $ for your time. Greetings from the one and only Netherlands. Sjors (George in English)
@Ozponds Жыл бұрын
G’day Sjors. I’d be looking at sine wave variable speed pumps. Something capable of delivering 15,000-20,000 or so litres per hour. You could then dial it back to save on energy use.

Thanks a lot for the video. Do you have experience with airlift pumps? Airlift champions say it is much more energy efficient to run an airlift to move the water. Though they cannot deliver water for a water wall, the advantage of oxygenation while pumping seems a big plus.
@Ozponds Жыл бұрын
Not really. I love the idea although if you look at how much air volume a efficient aerator moves it’s can’t beat the most energy efficient water pumps these days.

The reason why I was interested in airflow pumps was the problem with electricity in the water, and then there are many fans claiming it has much higher flow rate, but Kev has a different experience with them. Having a DC underwater is a safe option too, depending on the voltage of course.

Hey there Kev, I could use some advice. I want to make a swimming pond with both swimming attributes and normal for wildlife, I want to dig it about 12' deep at it's max depth, but an average depth of about 5 feet, I estimate somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 gallons in total. I more or less want to know would i need to have some sort of reinforcements in place at that depth for the pond walls & liner, or should i be digging that depth at a shallow angle or stair-stepping effect. The latter makes more sense in my head to be safer, but that wouldn't enable us to be able to jump in like some of my family wants to as the shore line would be too shallow even at the deeper end. If it is possible to dig straight down with reinforcements, what sort of reinforcements would best suit a pond? Or am i just going to need to pour concrete as if it were a pool? Sorry if my question isn't too clear.
@Ozponds Жыл бұрын
It’s really more a question for an engineer. When I built my pond I kept the excavation within the guidelines set out by my local building authority. That way I knew I was safe.
