I have a few questions for the man who plays Chip. What are your major inspirations for the way you play your character? Was there a lot of competition for the role? Who else tried out? Do you ever read comments on the fan forums? Do you have any favorite theories on your character? Will we ever get an episode which shows Chip's origin story?

These questions may be best answered in an upcoming episode, njloetz. Hmmmmm. Where to go with this?

So you were saying that the 1056 enhances the flavor of the expense of the german pils (around 13:30-14:15) but unless you are making a pilsner, the pilsner malt adds almost nothing. can you elaborate because i believe that maybe i wasnt following as i should. However, i love all of your insight!

Awesome episode! One thing I picked up from a recent BasicBrewing video/podcast was using rye for low gravity beers to enhance body. Any success with that? Cheers!

Just picked up a pack of 1217 today... Now to make a recipe!

It would be helpful to know which brewery is using this yeast strain....The video would be much more informative IMO....Like for example we know Serra Nevada using Wyeast 1056(Chico strain) and we know that Rouge uses Pacman and we know Hales uses the Northwest ale strain(Wyeast 1332)...ect ect....Is any "west Coast" brewery using 1271 so we have some point of reference? Or is that proprietary and you cant tell us? But if you could tell us that would be helpful IMO...Especially for Wyeast marketing so we kinda know what we are buying...Just my 2 cents

Awesome guys, love the show! Two tips though... better lighting, and better color post processing are desperately needed.
@ChopAndBrew11 жыл бұрын
What sort of post processing? As for lights I'm working on getting a basic setup.
@ddoom438711 жыл бұрын
For example, a color or curves pass to improve the color depth. Lights will turn up the colors too. I guess I focused on the color because the info hurts my brain a little. I don't speak beer wizard (yet).
@ChopAndBrew11 жыл бұрын
DDoom I appreciate the request and response. I don't do a lot of post-work unless the whites are just waaaaayyyy off. Partly b/c I'm always trying to get episodes out quick on top of my dayjob and also b/c my current computer is very slow on the rendering. But in lieu of a "real" light kit, I bought some shop lights this wknd that should help in the future as I aim towards a legit light kit. Daps!

Great video guys, I will have to keep a look out for that strain. Next time I do my Blonde Ale or IPA 11 gallon batch, I'll have to split it between these. May be a few months before I get to do that though. I always enjoy watching you guys, WHAT HAPPENED TO JAKE? Did he quit drinking? :-) Cheers.
@ChopAndBrew11 жыл бұрын
Just shot some video with Jake this weekend. He will appear in several upcoming tasting notes. He still drinks. :)

Great video, Chip! But is it out of focus at 720p or is it just me?
@ChopAndBrew11 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's out of focus... though it is certainly soft due to the Panasonic HMC40's finicky nature in low-light situations. Hoping to remedy that soon with a small light kit. Make sure the video is set to 720. It defaults to 360 for some, very annoying reason. Good eye, cheers!
@mjodr11 жыл бұрын
ChopAndBrew Yeah it kept dropping down to 360p or 240p for some reason until I forced it higher. That makes it look out of focus because the original is already "soft" as Chip says. Weird.
@bradsmith23611 жыл бұрын
I agree. It is nit picking, but the usual sharp quality of the video wasn't there for me. I always switch it to 720. I love drinking my own home brew while watching you guy talk about yours. Good times. :)

Is the hop stand you guys mention the same thing as hop bursting?
@ChopAndBrew11 жыл бұрын
Nope. Hop-bursting is the technique of loading hops in the last 15-ish minutes of the boil. A hop stand is done after the flame is killed and the boil is finished. Hops are put into the cooling wort and stirred/whirlpooled. Look up 'donosborn' channel on KZbin and look up 'hop stand.' He has a great video.
