Hi! How are you? You guys know this piece? A few weeks ago, my subscriber who helped me a lot requested me to play this piece. I didn’t play this piece before. While practicing, I felt that this piece is so beautiful. Chopin did not make the title “Aeolian Harp”. When Schumann heard this piece, he praised this work and coined for it the name “Aeolian Harp”. There is the other name “Shepherd Boy” This title is originated from the anecdote: When student asked him about this piece, Chopin advised a pupil to picture a shepherd boy taking refuge in a grotto to avoid a storm playing the melody on his flute. I hope that you guys like this performance! Take care and keep healthy! Thank you!! Have a great day!

This is my favorite piano piece of all time. My father, who just recently passed away, was an accomplished pianist. And he would play this piece to perfection. He spent so, so much time getting his interpretation just right. Lately, as I've been revisiting memories of my father, I've been searching the internet to hear this piece performed. I found many who have shared it online. But when I came across your page here, Kassia, I just couldn't leave it. I have repeated your rendition of this piece over and over again. You, Kassia, clearly "get it". I would just like to offer you a heartfelt "thank you".

@@zoltano_cortez nah lament is way easier than both. Op 10 no 6. This piece (aeolian harp) has quite a few polyrhythms (6 vs 4, even 6 vs 5). You also have to learn how to use your pinky, the weakest finger, to play notes louder than all other fingers. If you just play everything at the same volume, you don’t get that single-note melody that rises above the rest of the sounds. And tristesse has that mini-coda with the fast intervals being played in both hands But lament has no technical difficulties. The only thing that makes it remotely difficult is the key signature, Eb minor. But that’s not actually more difficult to play, just more difficult to read

1:33 genius climax by chopin. Diminished chord. Then F7, then Eb7, then Ebmaj7#5, Cminor,Abmajor, diminished. All with Eb as a pedal point to create suspension/tension and additional colors like 9ths. Im probably wrong with the harmony but its absolutely incredible how a single person back in the days created this to just express his feelings
@miguelp384

Yes, I'm practicing this, and I noticed this too, this pedal with the Eb strengthens this climax even more, almost a coda for the piece, using these diminished progressions! Very beautiful.

This is so beautiful. Thank you Kassia and Chopin! In my humble opinion, this is definitely one of the best performances of this piece, both artistically and technically, on KZbin to date. Lang Lang's interpretation is also very uniquely beautiful, but this one by Kassia is more conservative and stays closer to the many many more previous interpretations by other great concert pianists. I just ❤ it!

Back in the 60s an American song writer/producer named Phil Spector created what he called a" wall of sound," for his singing groups which was a full orchestra accompaniment instead of a small group or single instrument. Here is an example of the "Wall of Sound," Chopin creates with his piano pieces that make them sound like more than any two hands can play. That's what makes his piano pieces so difficult for the pianist and so rewarding for the audience.

Hey! I'm not sure if you will even read this, but some time ago I've listened to a piano arrangement of the Erlkönig by Liszt, and it was really fascinating to hear the different characters through the music and capture the very bleak atmosphere. Erlkönig is a quite famous ballade here in Germany, and pupils often have to learn it by heart. It deals with a father with his sick son in his arms riding towards a court to save him. Meanwhile the son is influenced by the Erlkönig who wants him. Reading the text is very interesting but also traumatizing in a way. There are various different interpretations of this ballade, discussing who the Erlkönig might be, some say it is a fever dream and the hallucination of the son, others say it's puberty manipulating the son into losing his innocence. Maybe you can have some fun with it^^

I'm high right now, but I am so happy that I ran into this video. Kassia, your performance for this piece ,along with the visuals, is the most amazing thing I've ever seen piano related. Thank you for your talent.

0:19 I remember these couple of bars were nasty to master. good job! Edit: I just realized you were using your 3rd finger instead of the fourth for that part. It is easier when I use my 3rd, however I tried to keep using my fourth (extremely uncomfortable for me) just to try and "do the right thing", because if the composer did it, I have to be able to do it too because I'm competitive like that lol.
