Agree! There are so many pretentious tutorials out there for this particular piece, but this one feels down to earth which makes the piece way more approachable

Why are beginners trying to play this piece tho?
@vetobadmusic2 жыл бұрын
@@roastme7696 Way too many classically trained people out there think certain pieces are just off limits until 10 years of experience. Sure, you can probably not play this piece perfectly (or even remotely close) until you have that experience under your belt, but giving it a shot doesnt hurt and it gives you exposure to a lot of different techniques, rythmical patterns and harmonies that can be useful outside the context of this piece. There are a lot of good lessons in this piece even when playing it at half speed.
@roastme76962 жыл бұрын
@@vetobadmusic Well yes you can try to practice or even play this piece but I feel like you're skipping too much basics of a piano. I think you should start with some easy pieces like fur elise or Prelude in C major by Bach.
@isaiahelges73465 жыл бұрын
I feel like it’s easy to get the rhythms when you don’t think about the hands individually, but rather making the down beats land together. If that happens, and each hand is playing consistently, yall should be golden.

The polyrhythms get me every time and even if I get the notes to matchup at the end it isn't really correct. Thank you for reminding us that it just takes a lot of time to get these things right. Polyrhythms are really hard for me (unless its like 3/2) and I know its just counting it out but arrgghh😥 I think when all of the great pianist (and all the prodigies) are at our fingertips via YT, its easy to get discouraged. But videos like yours put it in perspective for the rest of us. Thank you!

Thankyou for this !! In one video - which I watched last night and again today you have done 2 things for me, A simple one that was already in the music but I didn't take notice of 5th Bar, D# - I always played it with the 4th finger - why ? It was more natural for the hand to reach, however the hand wasn't in an ideal shape/position to play the following C# D# -- playing at 120 was a real struggle -- now in just a few hours, I've been able to squeeze 145 out of it! secondly to achieve that 145, I followed another bit of advice -- about playing various rhythms, I only tried one, where you play 4 notes in one movement as quick as possible, I played 4 notes, - I then played 5-10 notes, ending on various notes so my hand wouldn't get used to ending on the same note.. and getting locked into a position or habit. thankyou !! :) My next challenge is to put hands together and build it up.. knowing now that the right hand is on track I will also thoroughly check fingerings for bars 7-8 as that's my next hiccup area :)

You are far ahead of me. I would really like to be able to play Debussy's Arabesque; which I have put on hold for the time being. It has very similar challenges of three against four. I have been practising the C maj scale, playing two octaves with the left hand and three octaves with the right hand. Obviously in the same time period. After only a short while the sound of three against four started to feel familiar and less challenging. I note how often you use the word 'feel'. Asking my brain to consider the two separate patterns simultaneously was too much. Once I recognised the two combined as one pattern it made sense.

it peeves me also when people see a double sharp or even a C flat or e sharp and call it by the enharmonic natural note instead. there is a reason why it is used and it would be the equivalent of writing a C7 chord with an A# instead of B flat. sure technically you would be right but also wrong because a dominant chord is a lowered 7th not a raised 6th. it used to confuse me until i thought about it this way and somehow that made it click for me. Accidentals are there to alter an existing scale degree, not to just become some arbitrary note and if the composer wants to raise a scale degree for the context of the chord progression then they will add a sharp regardless of what the note is. it just happens that C# minor has four sharps so its going to be frequent to find E sharps B sharps and even F double sharps simple because you already have a lot of sharps in the key. the opposite would be true if you had a lot of flats in the key, expect to see C flats, F flat and of coarse B double flat NOT A!
@ThePianoKeys4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I think it's just that people have lots of holes in what they know about the subject of music, but they don't know that they have these gaps in knowledge, and so when they encounter something that doesn't fit with their experience, they either have a hard time with it, or they think that the other person is wrong.

Somehow I know the notes better when I play two hands together, but when I use one hand and do it slowly I messed up a lot. Maybe because I started with both hands first. Is there a Czerny 740 or 299 piece you can suggest that might help prep for this piece ? By the way, I love this song very very much, although I have not gone through Czerny 299, 740 at all. I listened to it almost every day when my son practiced it as recital piece for CM level 10/Senior award. For the polyrhythm i found that if you tap out the common beat it lines up pretty nice and is easier to grasp. When i increase speed I don't seem to have to focus on the music itself but just the beat that my fingers are making. Edit: Just to clarify when i mean i tap out the common beat i do it between both hands. I only focus on the beat that i am making. when the 4 and 3 come together, That, 1 budum bum budum 2 budum bum budum 3... and so on. I just focus on keeping that beat in time not what each hand is doing and it keeps every note where it should be instead of just having the down beats where they should be.
@bobby98475 жыл бұрын
slow down a score of it in muse score or something similar to about 10% speed you can hear the common beat really well.

Yes I agree this piece was too hard for me when my mom like it because she heard the popular version "I'm forever chasing rainbows" but I didn't care I thought I could learn any piano piece I was in my teens. I also try to play hard pieces now and it's been years since I touched the Piano. I learn parts of pieces but don't know how to play one straight through. I probably am comfortable at the 2nd grade level. I can play some chopin preludes but not too many waltzes. I used to try to play waltz in D flat in one minute and my piano teacher told me not to rush the middle part because it's the prettiest part of the waltz. I'm odd because I rather play sharps than flats. My favorite key to play is c# minor. My advice to your listeners is to not try this piece until they learn technique first. There are exercises to practice 3 over 4 and 4 over 3 master them type of exercises first they try the hard rhythm parts in this piece. Triplets over eighth notes is hard.

Yes, without building up proper technique, difficult pieces can't be played well.

@@ThePianoKeys yeah right on. I like how people say oh he or she can play anything by ear, well yes and no. Yeah anyone with some music ability can play a melody and put chords to it. That was required in college but you need technique and accuracy to play well. I rather play what's easy and save the harder stuff in my private practice I only need to hear it. I can ramble on the keyboard easy but to read and interpret a classical piece that's a chore. Thanks for posting.

This would be around a ARCT 1 right? Anyways the most annoying part of this song to get used to for me is the triplet and sixteen note together I'm 10 and I want to play this. I'm level 10 can I do this?
@ThePianoKeys4 жыл бұрын
I'm not really sure what ARCT is, but in any case, I'm not a big believer in "levels." I think that with the proper training, good practice habits, and being vigilant about technique, you can learn just about anything. Provided that you are willing to dedicate the time to it.

@@ThePianoKeys Oh ARCT is basically what you take after you pass Level 10 RCM. It is the highest levels you can get for example: Chopin's Ballade 1 Fantasie Impromptu and a lot of the hardest songs are ARCT level

Hi again, Marina. As much as i want to continue watching and practice along with you in your videos. My keyboard somehow exploded in the inside. It doesn't work anymore.(exactly why i didn't want to watch your videos anymore) Can i still practice even without sounds though? *notice. my english is bad, but i noticed that one of the word of my last coment was supposed to be 'praise' and not 'compliment'.*

Can you get it fixed? If you have no sound how will you know if you're hitting the right notes? I guess you could continue on dexterity and finger strength but perhaps rent a keyboard from somewhere? I wish you were here (Arizona) I'm giving away my acoustic piano as I just got a Yamaha digital. Maybe look for someone giving away an old piano... Good luck☺

@@R.Williams i'm glad to hear that, but i have nobody to fix my keyboard for me in a little town with somebody who can't fix keyboard. Also i don't want to have anything that i can't keep on my own, like i want my own keyboard to enjoy without worry about paying what is gonna go back to it's owner. I would gladly accept the acoustic, but i don't live there. My town is where the people that having musical instruments is rare. That's why there's nobody who would give away the old piano, nobody owns anything like that. Perhaps can you recommend me the good piano keyboard to order instead? I can't pick on my own but i can order.

@nu_na12316 жыл бұрын
@@aprilthejesusinthemorningf4667 Erm. the first time i had it, i had to fix the wires of A and F sharp on my own. So it was kind of already broken when it came.

This is a tutorial. :) I can't do a note for note tutorial on this one because it's very advanced and in order to play it, you need to have several years of dedicated and correct technique practices under your belt.
