What absolute courage this man has to play pieces like Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 and Fantaisie-Impromptu at the CHOPIN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION. He played them extremely well, of course.

This piece is actually not a particularly difficult Chopin one, I'm currently playing it and it is quite simple, very repetitive. It's very beautiful because of its simplicity and emphasis on intentional improvisation, but I don't think its a massively 'out there' choice at all, it's actually pretty safe.

@@semschenk6173 true they are overplayed but in a place like the Chopin competition these pieces become the most underplayed. It's quite a smart move as he's probably the only one that played these pieces.

@@eliyasara9786 They are not saying these pieces are difficult, they are saying he has courage because they are NOT the most difficult pieces, so he has to play them extremely well for the judges to consider him. It's not 'safe' to play these when you're competing with much more difficult pieces played at a very high level.

Yes, I play this piece, and I know what it means to play this with deep emotional style and superb 👌 expertise. Of course I cannot play it as well as Dimitry does, nor by memory 🙄😒😏 but I am getting close to achieving the right nuances and phrasing that the music requires with the score in front of me 😁😊

@@jameygold I may be a bot who cannot memorise every piano piece I have learnt 😳 but I do appreciate listening to gifted and talented pianists, who play without needing a score prompt. They can play skilfully and expertly from memory, because they have the freedom to put all their soul, emotion and unique style 😉 into a piece .....as long as they don't get too carried away, and detract from the true character of a piece 🙄🙏🤗❤❣

I believe the opposite. This piece can tell you if the pianist knows the piece well, knows chopin and is a professional, or if on the contrary, is not a pro and exaggerates the rubato everywhere.

Sehnsucht. Melancholie.
