'He's a f**king nutcase' is how Chopper Read described Hector after meeting him. Mark 'Chopper' Read, served time after being convicted of armed robbery, kidnapping, arson, impersonating a police officer, assault and attempted murder. He was sentenced to 13 years in jail for attempting to kidnap a County Court judge at gunpoint. In 2006 he showed Hector the art he was working on and gave him a tour of Melbourne.
His life was immortalised in the film Chopper and In the history of criminal Melbourne, no single word has ever imparted as much fear as Chopper. For the bulk of his career, Mr. Read was what is known as a headhunter, robbing and extorting fellow criminals. He says he lived by a moral code that precluded abusing or stealing from civilians.

Great stuff Hector meeting Chopper, don’t forget back in the 1970s Pentridge Prison was notorious & H Division was the worst part of it & have no doubt that Chopper ran H Division, a real old school criminal & a hard tough man was Chopper......Rest in peace Big Mark🙏🏻

Oh jesus, I miss Mr Chopper Read. He possesed a unique and enjoyable type of humour. Direct and no shit just apt descriptions and you knew where you stood with him. And he's right about NSW, kick the bastards out of the Federation (which us Victorians created) and never let the low lifes back.

He’s definitely a likeable Rogue. Love watching him too. Over here in England there was a very similar guy by the name of Paul Sykes (Sykesy) from Wakefield. Often referred to as the Hardest Prisoner in the U.K. back in the 70s/80s. If you haven’t heard of him search him on KZbin. You’ll be hooked

Chopper was honest to a fault and had the heart to back it up, the crime and punishment industry fears that. Good to hear the mother tongue being spoken in Melbourne old son, me granddad was born in Tipperary, but the only thing I remember is slainte.

Oh yeah I agree. That Hector guy suprised me when I first watched the video, I recognised that it was Gaelic or Celtic. My ancestors were from Scotland, Wales and Ireland.......The Campbells (McDuffs), The Newtons and the Carricks so I am full Celtic and very proud of it. There are so many Irish people living in Melbourne and they seem to love it. My parents were into those old songs like Tipperary and other war time tunes. I'll have to find out more about this Hector fellow, he seems like a good bloke!

I knew him very well I spent time with him in Turana and Pentridge I knew him when he was playing god to teeny bobbers. He was a liar and couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag. As for the killings he claimed to have done they were wet dreams he was a liar but he was good at that but then he was a lousy criminal so he made a living out of stories that nobody could prove were lies. Which is clever to a point because if Mark claimed I shot so and so the guy who did do the shooting isn't go to call him out on it. Mark was a give up he would lag anyone to the filth that is why nobody in their right mind would tell him the time of day. I don't want to upset any ones hero worship but he was all talk no action. Still I give him some kudos as he had the media and others eating out of his hand and he made a living out of it and looked after his missus and his son.
