"Woodworking is not about nitpicking, it is about getting things done" Amen Steve. In a video, if you get the occasion, you might talk about cabinet scrapers.
@Woodworkingmasterclass9 жыл бұрын
OK Josh, will do one on scrapers. It can be 27th of March (next weeks) Video. Thanks for the suggestion. 'Cos it's all about getting things done! Right? Cheers Steve

Hi Steve where do you get your timber from
@TravisTerrell4 жыл бұрын
Do you think I'd be able to still be able to get away with using a hand plane if I use the more-standard end grain rather than the side grain?
@Woodworkingmasterclass4 жыл бұрын
Hi Travis, Sure, couple of things to consider. First and foremost. Make sure youR balde is very sharp, set it fine, closed mouth, if you have the adjustment. Go with the direction of the end grain and plane at a skew angle, that is run the plane at an angle over the timber.. Hope that helps. Cheers Steve

i enjoy your videos and the way you teach.i have been doing traditional woodworking for about one year and have discovered that i need a good bench and bench vice where did you find your tail vice, the one that runs parallel with the bench and is flat with the surface thank for the help
@Woodworkingmasterclass9 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, It's an HNT Gordon Tail Vice. www.hntgordon.com.au/bench-vices.html. If you can afford the extra I would go the longer one. Good Luck with your future woodworking endeavors it's a great journey to be on. Cheers Steve

Is it necessary to use a block plane for the end grain portion of the cutting board or can you use a standard #4 or #5 plane? I'm new to all of this and don't currently own a block plane. Thanks for your time!
@Woodworkingmasterclass8 жыл бұрын
+Alex J Well it is easier, because of the fine adjustable mouth a block plane has. You can use a standard plane but run the risk of tear-out or gouging the end grain with the blade. Give it a go it's all practice. Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, is it possible to use an electric planer than a sander to smooth it out? Thank you
@Woodworkingmasterclass9 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Sarandopoulos Don't see why not. I would have a couple of trial runs first. Give it a go. Cheers Steve

Hi steve just a quick question ... Can the olive oil become rancid and oxidise ? Is it better use other oil like the wood wipe eco wood oil Cheers Matteo
@albertkelly71299 жыл бұрын
yes, its my understanding also that olive oil isnt good for this type of application since it does indeed go rancid. std mineral oil is perfect since its food safe and completely stable. hot board though!

Never had an issue with it myself, but use whatever you feel works right for you. That's the great thing about woodwork so many ways to arrive and the same place. Cheers Steve

One reason woodwork teachers instruct students to rest their planes on the side is to avoid nails and other blade blunting material in the benches.
@Woodworkingmasterclass7 жыл бұрын
Rightly so too Matthew. As I, now, say if they are not your planes do as you are asked to do. If they are your planes then do as you see fit. Cheers Steve
