That's a nice one. Best thing about an older chopper is that you domt have to worry abput electronics shutting you down for a long time.

Hey, I love these JD 5400 and 5200! Bud take care of the "coffin box!" 😉 I know a very friendly person who owns a JD 5200 Chopper. In the fall (autumn) he and a friend of him, with a NH1880, chopp for show. Every time I am able I follow them till end of show and they're leaving 😢. Sometimes I can help with drive them to JD companie for parts etc. After all where allowed to drive the JD 5200 LOL Wat a outstanding fun!!! Any problems with your JD 5400? All wheel drive is not necessary in your fields?
@farmerintheboot40893 жыл бұрын
Necessary? No but it would sure make turning with a wagon a lot easier. I had a lot of luck with it last fall only chopped 100 acres of silage. For my first time chopping silage I don’t think it could’ve gone any better.

Is your 5400 supplied with a kernel processor and a metal detection? Curious to see more of this chopper!
@farmerintheboot40894 жыл бұрын
No kp or metal detection we were running short on time to gather everything and get the corn chopped it’s just got the old J knives but I’m thinking a dura drum and cracker next year hopefully. Thanks for watching

@@farmerintheboot4089 I was wondering if there are any 5200 / 5400 forage harvesters with custom kernel processor solutions. I also see the lack of a metal detection in the old 5200 and 5400 models as a problem here in Europe when used for grass silage. Keep us updated on the kernel processor project! If you need any technical manuals or information just let me know, I have access to all of the workshop manuals.

There is a company we buy aftermarket parts from they have almost everything you could need for the old 5200/5400 choppers. They’re out of Iowa idk if they ship internationally. Look up Kooima Ag. We just have the tunnel without the augers so doing any kind of haylage is out of the question. Hopefully that helps!

@@farmerintheboot4089 I used to have a 5440 jd chopper, put in the koomia dura drum, , not kidding upped output by at least 25%. You'll love it. we had to take out half the knives to get a chop we liked, with all the extra knives in the high feed roll setting it still made meal out of it. We also had their cracker plate, helped, not perfect but one hell of a lot cheaper than a crimper
