Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila Trek With Makkumath Temple Details
This is the second episode Travellers from two generations. The journey had started from Bhanaj village and first we have explored Makkumath.
Makkumath - Winter Seat of Tungnath
An interesting fact about is that it serves as the winter abode of Lord Tungnath. The idol of Lord Tungnath is moved from his original place Tungnath Temple (world’s highest Shiva Temple) and brought down to Makkumath Temple.It is done so because, during winters,the Chandrashila Tungnath region is covered with snow which makes it unfeasible to reach there by pilgrims, however trekkers do visit there as snow trek. The temple priests also move to Makkumath in winters.
Chopta - Switzerland of Uttarakhand
Chopta is a picturesque hamlet which is still unexplored by travelers, is also famous as "Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand". Wake up with cool salubrious breeze and chirping of birds in Chopta which is a far cry from the blaring horns of the cities and other hill stations, morning view from Chopta is invigorating when the crimson rays of sun kisses the snow-laden Himalayas.
Tungnath - Highest Temple of Lord Shiva
Tungnath peacefully adorned on the Chandranath Parvat is the highest Shiva temple in the world and the highest Panch Kedar temple of Uttarakhand.
It is the third (Tritiya Kedar) in the pecking order of the Panch Kedars. Tungnath is perched at an elevation of 3, 680 metres above sea level and is considered to be more than 1,000 years old.
Chandrashilla Peak - Summit Trek
Chandrashila that literally suggests the ‘Moon Rock’ is the summit of the Chandranath Parvat on which the Tungnath temple of Panch Kedar is situated. The majestic Chandrashila summit serves as a vantage point that offers a heavenly panorama of the Great Himalayas.

I went to tungnath and kedarnath on 12/13/14/15 october two days on each place.. Did both treks on foot same day updown.. tungnath trek is way more prettier than kedarnath trek.cant wait to go their again in snow.. One more thing this place looks way prettier on a sunny day..never been a follower of shiva but after being there I observe a change in myself. har har mahadev 🙏

Uttarakhand is so much of divine magic which immerses you into itself at every step... Himachal is great, but I haven't felt as blissful as in Uttarakhand....I did this from Chopta (near Rudraprayag and not the CHopta we know).....its an amazing place to be...Chandrashila...never been higher than this on foot.. :)... you have done a great job !!
