I have heard of it, and seen photos, from my wife, who was there before we met - she is Peruvian. When we watched this, she excitedly told me to look out for the silver llamas on the terrace walls - those architects didn't want the place to be just fantastically constructed, they wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing, too. I wonder how my lungs would react to the height (a bit over 10,000 feet). But it sure is worth losing your breath to see such beauty. Congrats.

What a fabulous place! Hard to imagine the labor force required to build it all, especially the terraces. To build them on the side of a steep mountain without the weight making them collapse speaks of some extremely good engineering... that's a LOT of weight to put on a steep slope!

How do people not want to live like that anymore? I wonder where to aqueducts got relocated? That would be an amazing place for hard workers who want to live like kings and queens to live and they could still have thier tourism in some locations, even though the wise already know anything is possible because the eyes don't always see where life has other passages to preserve such kings and queens. Saludos cordiales

I am quite impressed that only 30% of the site has been excavated. This city must be huge. I am very curious to know how the walls and terraces still stand if no mortar was used. Certainly the weight of the stones alone does not hold them in place. I also seriously wonder what the mortality rate was for people falling. I mean, one slip and there is one h*ll of a nose dive!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. The christians love showing off their beautiful churches that were built by slaves. Then we have the Roman/Greek empire which was built by slaves. @@carlosgaspar8447 I didn't say "probably built by slaves", make-believer. You just made that up, knuckle head. The Historic Christian churches were most certainly built by slaves and slave labor. The Incas have been dubbed as the first known socialist nation and didn't own slaves.
@@carlosgaspar8447 and your point is? Choquequirao was built no-less then five-hundred years ago when slavery was main-stream. Slavery has only been illegal in the USA for 150 years while our very own "WHITE HOUSE" was built by slaves. I feel these structures due to their location an size are by far more intriguing to historians. It's too bad that there are no more information as to who, where exactly, when and why , the altitude etc. I feel if the Peruvian government were to facilitate the visitation of such grandeur of a place it would be an attraction to the rest of the World. But perhaps the great perils visiting the place could deter a lot of people as it looks quite dangerous.
