One thing you need to understand this is a "music video". To truly appreciate them you need to watch live performances, and realize a lot of the choreography you see in this video is done in the live performances.

Exactly. Choreography in a movie is one thing, but choreography in real time is something totally different. And singing while dancing full speed is impressive. Not many can do it, but Su can.

First thing to know, Babymetal is best known as a Live Performance Act. One of the best Acts on the World Metal Music Scene! And they are the ones Largely responsible for opening the Western Door, so to speak, for many of the other groups you mentioned earlier...the collective Western Heads turned to the East because of Babymetal, and found a whole new world of Metal and Rock'n'Roll just waiting for them!!! And No, the girls are not the musicians, but rather think of them as the "Front Man", like you would find in any other group. They Sing, They Dance and they have some of the most Loyal Fans of any group out there....or so say "Metal Hammer" and "Kerrang!" Magazine! You were Right! The song is about Fighting! But its about Fighting ones own Deamons...about when you get knocked down, with the help of friends you can get back up and overcome, to be a better You!! The Babymetal 'Fox Hole' is deep Man and how far down you will go....Only the Fox God Knows!! More Babymetal and as always.... Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. In my several decades of listening to and watching metal, rock and many other genres I never realised that metal needed choreographed dancing ... until I saw BABYMETAL and it all made sense. But this isn't the sort of choreography you'll see in other musical acts where, for the most part, any moves are taken from the grab bag of dance steps and it is just used to fill the stage or to give you something to watch to distract you from bland music and dull songs with scantily clad girls (or boys) mincing round, doing slut drops, grabbing their crotches, spreading their legs etc. BABYMETAL's choreo serves a couple of real purposes :- first off it is bespoke and specific to each song, it is interpretive and relates to or even helps to interpret the lyrics or the general meaning of the song. More importantly it is designed to lead and to involve the audience, getting them all involved so they can join in to become a part of the performance. When the girls jump, so does the crowd, when they pump their fists or make a specific move so does the crowd. It lets the crowd know how and when to join in. On top of that, when Yui and Moa (the two younger girls) sing their lines those are what the crowd will sing along with. Their role is so important to what makes BABYMETAL unique and special even though the whole concept was formed and developed around the lead singer Su-metal with her extraordinary vocal talents and stage presence. So you are right, the other bands you've seen and pretty much all the other bands you will see after this follow the same old tried and tested formula followed by most bands over the years with the instrumentalists and a singer forming the band, going out on stage and playing their songs. BABYMETAL brought something new and different. They are original and do things their own way with the 3 girls all being like the front man in any other band, but they don't just sing their songs, they perform them and every song in every concert is an event. In live shows they are supported by the Kami Band, some of the absolute best session musicians to be found in Japan - they can play anything and with BABYMETAL they have to do just that - about 50 songs and each one of them different to the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but they will also mix and blend in so many other musical styles and genres with the metal, not just Jpop. Some songs are good hard metal, others lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. You may prefer some songs to others depending on your own tastes and preferences, so if you don't like one song so much don't worry, try another and the chances are it will become one of your favourites. Even the songs you maybe weren't so keen on to start with, give them another couple of listens and watch a couple of live performances and they will grow on you as well. 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (as such it is one of their more "radio friendly" songs perhaps). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art and reflects their culture - as Moametal also said, it is all about moving forward which is also one of the main traits of BABYMETAL, many of their songs carry that message. In the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that). They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible. Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time. This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards". As others have said, live BABYMETAL is best BABYMETAL and you already have some good suggestions for more reactions. More will follow - they have no fillers, every song is somebody's favourite.

BABYMETAL and "different" is kinda the thing. They stand apart not only from other Japanese bands but from any band that has ever existed. And it's quite the rabbit (fox) hole trust me... :) Also yeah, Karate is not just a fighting sport, it's also a philosophy, which they're using as a metaphor for fighting and conquering the inner demons within you that hold you down. Their choreography also stands out from your typical idol band in the way that they're meant as an approach to interpretative dancing. On top of that, a lot of their choreographies involve "cues" for the crowd (they're best experienced live) to participate (clapping, throwing arms, jumping, shouting, etc.)

Welcome to Babymetal, creators of a brand new genre of metal, Kawaii metal or cute metal. Now celebrating 11 years of live performances around the world with over 50 songs and 3 albums at this time, multiple awards for live shows and voted 10th of the top 50 metal bands. There is no slot for their songs, they cover every genre, thrash, industrial, progressive, nu, death metal and rap! No one comes close to what these 3 girls have achieved, loved by and performed with some of the best including Metallica, Korn, RHCP, Guns & Roses, Dragonforce, BMTH, Rob Halford, Corey Taylor and many others. Some may call them gimmicky, but did Alice Cooper have a gimmick, or Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, of course they did. What some dislike is 3 little girls who have more metal in their little fingers than the keyboard warriors. No one knows the power of the fox god.

For me, Karate is about fighting against your inner demons. Even if you get knocked down, you get up and continue to move forward. You notice there were 3 scary figures matching the 3 girls and, in the end, when the girls triumph and break the masks, you see the girls are behind the masks. If you look closely, you can see the girls reflected in the eyes during the closeups. Babymetal almost always has a positive message behind their music. The girls are extremely talented singers and dancers. Their backup band, the Kami band, consists of a loose collection of the most talented metal musicians around. Even though a lot of people look down on Babymetal as a gimmick, they have collaborated with such talents as Bring Me The Horizon, Rob Halford, Tak Matsumoto, Joakim Broden, Tim Henson, Scott Lepage, F Hero, etc. That’s a pretty impressive list.

The girls do not play instruments because they are the vocalists/dancers. I'm no dancer myself but I assume its pretty difficult to do choreographed dancing and play the drums at the same time. :) Babymetal started off as a subunit of an Idol group (Sakura Gakuin) when they were 11 and 12 years old. Typical of Idol groups, they initially sang to recorded music but as they gained popularity, they recruited a band of session musicians to back them up. The band is not technically a part of Babymetal because of this reason but, believe me, most of us fans see them as a part of Babymetal. You'll see them in their live videos, which I recommend to always watch Babymetal live, and you will see how good they are. Fantastic musicians! The whole, band not being an official part of Babymetal, also has a lot to do with some weird lore that is ever present with Babymetal. Babymetal were chosen by the "Fox God" etc. etc. etc. I don't understand it entirely myself. haha

They have a lot of very different styles/influences in their music (Hiphop, electronic, power metal, oriental or Latin vibes, death metal or prog metal just to name a few). You definately need to listen to more songs to know what this band is all about. If you listen to 'BxMxC', 'No rain no Rainbow', 'Da Da Dance' and 'Babymetal Death' for example you'll find that all those songs sound pretty different from this song. Looking forward to more Babymetal reactions!

Welcome to the Foxhole 🦊🤘 BabyMetal is like any other group or band out there in Japan and in the entire world, in fact thanks to them the gates of japanese metal and rock open to the world and many of those bands you mentioned are known thanks to BabyMetal, that's the mighty power of BabyMetal and the Fox God. BabyMetal is a dance metal unit composed of SuMetal (lead vocalist), YuiMetal (former member since 2018) and MoaMetal (scream and dance). They started in 2010 when they had 11 and 12 years old under a subunit group of Sakura Gakuin, a jpop/jrock group formed early that year with many other subunits. They became independent in 2013 after SuMetal graduates, you can watch many songs clips from that year in the live performance celebrating her 16th birthday at "Legend 1997", songs like Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!, Babymetal Death or Akatsuki Unfinished Version are classic clips you can watch from that live concert, there's also the Gimme Chocolate! official MV with live footage of that concert but the audio is from album studio version. Early days they didn't had a real band like nowadays, so when you see live performance with people wearing suits simulating skeletons and air playing instruments those are called "baby bones", if you see people wearing white or black burial robes and face painted or with mask, those are a real band called the "Kami Band", kami means god. This song is self explanatory even without lyrics, if you look 2nd time you will notice things you didn't before. Is about fighting and going forward despite the difficulties in life, but like you saw at the end in the eyes of the girls (or ghost or demons) we're fighthing against no other but ourselves. After this MV MoaMetal become the bug specialist, so everytime a bug show up while they were on tour, MoaMetal was in charge to deal with that issue. She loves this song and is also proud of spreading this message with a martial art that came from Japan. They watched "Karate Kid" movie and took elements from there for the choreography. When this MV came out they had 16 and 17 years old, still very young. If you want to know what is the feeling of this song and the crowd response when playing live watch live at Download 2016 to get some idea, is just a hint of their live performance which is even bigger with so much top notch production you won't believe. Keep coming back with more BabyMetal songs and we'll be waiting for helping you out with more info you need. Btw if you need a beginner's guide you got "A Babymetal Guide" from CrypticMisery channel, if you need full original live performances clips while avoiding copyright blocked and strikes go to Babymetal Reactor Resource channel to get watermarked logo clips safe to react, is one of the safest way to keep watching them without any trouble, i saw you put a watermarked logo so you might now about it, just don't watch live compilations whenever you can. You are only just starting to explore the Babymetal "foxhole" and you'll find a very diverse range of music within their general kawaii (cute) metal style from ballads, to ska, "bubblegum pop" and even avant garde prog rock. Babymetal are nearly always better live and next I suggest you react to "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" and "Headbanger - Legend 1997". In live performances BM are backed by the Kami Band and together they put on one of the best shows in rock. They are definitely not your usual group of 4 musicians just playing their songs; their performances are halfway between a rock concert and a Broadway show. Everyone involved is a highly talented professional from the stage designers, songwriters to Su, Moa and Yui delivering it all to the crowd so you get an amazing live experience. So, if you bring an open mind, you will have a good time. Karate is about fighting against adversaries both real and imagined, and some that you create yourself, and never giving up. The big reveal at the end is that the white robed, skull faced figures are the girls themselves. It's one of BM's "empowerment" songs that emphasizes inner strength and the value of friendship...particularly in the dance. It's a good example of how well BM can manipulate your emotions. It starts off heavy and confrontational and by the end the dance and the tone of the music has become more intimate and transcendent and I certainly get a bit misty eyed. BM can communicate with any audience through the dance and music which is why they have such a large following outside of Japan.

Important to note that Road of Resistance will encounter the same copyright troubles that Karate did, but that can be circumvented the same way too. Older live performances that aren't from the official channel ( such as that Headbanger performance - here's a link to a good-quality upload of it by the way kzbin.info/www/bejne/qF6VeoxnZdBsga8 ) generally won't get blocked, but the more recent live stuff will; however the same workaround usually works for those too.

Nice honest reaction. Babymetal fans are known as The One. Because Babymetal feels that the fans are a big part of the group. At the end of their concerts Su will scream "We Are" and Yui and Moa will lead the audience with "Babymetal". They get fans at festivals big time. And when they do their big shows, buy a ticket early. They're that hot of a show. Karate was the lead single of their 2nd album. Being the first to do what they do. Babymetal had a lot of resistance along the way. Nothing was handed to them. They even did performances in the mall in their early days. Babymetal has a great reputation amongst other rock and metal bands who have met them for their work ethic. Maximum effort is what they give every concert. I hope you'll join us in the fox whole. It's deep with plenty of space for everyone.

Su-metal (the lead singer), Moametal (the one that caught the fly) & Yuimetal (the one with that busted the camera lens) are the David Lee Roth of Kawaii Metal. They do not play instruments in their shows. But then most modern popular music acts have a 'performer' and a backing band. It's the same concept here with one major difference: We know who the musicians are. They're not anonymous. They are The Kami Band (loosely: The God Band). The Kamis are some of the best session musicians you're ever going to see. But we'll wait until you hit a live video to get into them. They have nothing to do with the video you just watched. The musicians on the albums are not the live musicians. Hell, the albums don't even use a drummer. People say that the live drummer (Hideki Aoyama) is a machine - and he is - but they LITERALLY use a machine for the albums. Also realize that the white-robed figures have no feet. Also realize that the white-robed figures are the girls. Then you find out that the choreography from the video is the choreography in their live shows.

Good reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL. Yes, they are (very) unusual on every single aspect. And we are very aware of the initial shock that they cause (by own experience). "Karate" is on their poppier side but despite that fact, that initial riff comes from nowhere and hits hard. They like to mix any music genre with any metal subgenre... even several genres in the same song. So, open your mind, be prepared to be surprised and expect the unexpected :) This one here is a nice early performance: "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3bWgJSDl7N5rdk Until next time!

Karate is standard Babymetal Mojo of "never give up", "always move forward", "your biggest enemy is yourself". A significant number of their songs carry such a message. Their message took a bit of a deeper turn at times on their third album after the death of one of their guitarist (see the song "Shine", for example) and one of the members (Yui) leaving, where they cover the emotions of grieving the loss of someone. This video is from their 2016 album "Metal Resistance". At the time, I think Su (lead singer) was 18. The two girls to her sides (Yui and Moa) would have been 16. They have been together as Babymetal since 2010, really started gaining popularity in Japan in 2013, and starting becoming a phenomenon in the West in 2014. As for comparison to other Japanese acts you may have checked out, Babymetal sells out 20,000 seat venues in Japan as an afterthought. They've headlined Wembley in the UK and the Forum in the USA. In 2016, they sold out back to back nights at the Tokyo Dome at 55,000 people per night. None of the other Japanese rock acts such as Lovebites, Nemophila, Band-Maid, have even come close to that level of success (yet). Make no mistake, Babymetal is the three girls you see here (now two). Everything else is built around them. The band is composed of the best session musicians Japan has to offer and while each member of the "Kami Band" has been associated with Babymetal since 2013/2014, they are not actual members. Much like Elvis had the TCB band, Babymetal has the Kami Band.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 👻 👻 👻 There's a good reason this was the featured single from the second album, 'Metal Resistance'. Lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or Su) was 18 when the 'Karate' single and music video were released in early 2016. Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) were both 16. Like a lot of BABYMETAL songs, this one has a positive message about facing life's challenges, both internal and external. The members liked the idea that karate is a Japanese martial art, and that it teaches advancing, and not retreating in order to succeed. Of course the message about getting back up on your feet when you're knocked down should be pretty obvious. Although they really shine in live performances, along with 'Megitsune' from 2013, I'd consider this to be among their best music videos. I love the color grading on this one. They made a lot of friends among other groups by playing a bunch of metal festivals, and this song converted quite a few. As is usually the case with this group, the riffs are even heavier live.

As most people will point out, Babymetal is best in live show settings. Since you've seen the MV, you should checkout their performance of Karate at Download in 2016. Babymetal was meant to the gateway drug to metal music, for younger Japanese women to get into metal music...They pretty much paved the way for bands like Band Maid, Lovebite, etc to have a easier metal world acceptance. They were the OG Japanese girl group that started it all. Even if you don't like metal at first, after a few listen of their VERY wide range of metal fusion music, you will find something you'd like.... You like power metal? Checkout Arkadia or Road of Resistance Live in Japan, Ska Metal? Yava with Kamiband intro, Trap Metal? BxMxC... Ballads? The One, No Rain No Rainbow, Akatsuki Unfinished..They have 50+ songs fusing Jpop with metal with every other genre you can think of. If you want a very quick guide to get an idea of Babymetal, Checkout Crypticmisery's guide... He has 2, one is a 18min one, and another is an indepth 45min one. Of all the suggestions you will get, you should start with IDZ from Sonisphere 2014, this was their breakout first concert at metal festival overseas. They were slated to play on a smaller stage, but got moved to the mainstage after their song Gimme Chocolate went viral, and their earlier concerts in Europe got a lot of positive noise. There were haters that made noise online about throwing stuff at them for being a gimmick. The 3 girls (about 13-15) at the time basically won over the whole crowd that day and made metal history. Many big Metal legends sing their praises from Rob Zombie to Rob Halford.... They've preformed with and/or toured with Rob Halford, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Metallica, Guns and Roses, Lady Gaga, Bring Me The Horizon, featured in Cory Taylors Video.... Yeah, These 3 girls have a lot of Big Metal Brothers watching their back. Have fun exploring Babymetal.🤘🦊🤘

A few options for more recent live performances where you can hear Su’s more mature voice. BABYMETAL have a very wide range of styles. They all work together in the context of a concert. Some vids have watermarks (non-watermark version in description). But they’re the best versions available. Most fans have seen them previously. Babymetal is not a metal band and never were. I don't know where you read that but it's very wrong. There is a metal band that supports them in live shows 'The Kami Band'. But Babymetal is the girls and they are/were pop stars. When their producer Koba pitched them the Babymetal concept they knew nothing about Metal and thought it was 'scary'. The lead singer was only 12. The other girls were 11. This is not at all to insult the girls. How many genres of music did you know at 11? But this is where they are coming from. Their producer Koba is a big metal fan and played in Japanese metal bands before becoming a producer. It was his idea to blend Japanese pop and metal after seeing the lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto perform live in her previous group 'Karen Girls'. She was the youngest girl in that group and did most of the vocals and had a commanding stage presence. There is one thing I want to add. There are other talents than playing instruments. The other girls Yui and Moa are extremely talented. They act, they sing, they dance and they lead the crowd. They are a big part of Babymetal. It's difficult for westerners to wrap our minds around at first but they are very good.

Most BM songs are actually quite deep - often empowering ,uplifting and positive, especially around women. This one is about facing your inner demons (the white robed figures turn out to be the girls themselves) and over coming those problems by standing together. Also the choreogprahy is very similar to what they do live (side note - BM is a LIVE performance act. They really only have a few MV like this - most are from live shows as this is where the girls excel). You said nice voice and the group is built around Suzuka Nakamoto (SU-METAL) described as Vocal & Dance. Her voice has just got better and better. The other two are Moa Kikuchi (MOAMETAL) and Yui Mizuno (YUIMETAL) who are Scream and Dance. (Note YUIMETAL left in 2017 due to undisclosed medical reasons and her place has been filled by 3 rotating dancers called AVENGERS). The band (since about 2014) is a backing band of some of the most talented Japanese musicans and are called the Kami band - but they solely back the girls during live shows. BM is just the now 2 members. The girls sing and dance and contribute to production but songwriting is done by a team. But these are not like a "boy band". The girls are the core of BM supported by an amazing professional team. The girls debuted in BM at the ages of around 13 and 11 and are now in their early to mid 20's (2020 was their 10 anniversary).

Great reaction. I'm looking forward to more Babymetal and Nemophila reactions. But since you've been exploring Japanese female metal bands so far, how about a little change of pace… … a Meiji-era literary scholar, a monk, and a gangster walk into a bar… Check out "Heartless Scat" by Ningen Isu: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZOsaGybas6NgdU (Click CC for English subs.) Ningen Isu translates as The Human Chair. The band name comes from a 1924 short story of the same name by Edogawa Rampo (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ningen_Isu). These guys have have been making music for 30+ years, but only made it big and acquired an international audience when Heartless Scat went viral on KZbin in 2019.

As great as BABYMETAL's MV's are the only real way to experience them is live . Try reacting to their live concert videos . They're a sight to behold watching them live is like a cross between the most brutal metal , anime and a futuristic fever dream . I suggest trying " Headbanger " Road of Resistance " Rondo of Nightmare " Death " or " Catch Me if You Can " . BABYMETAL and their backing band , The Kami Band are in a class all by them self's .

This is not a video I go to now and then if I want to have some Babymetal. It is good and the video is fantastic. But no, at least I get bored with this one after a while. Personally I like Megitsune better, if you want a video. But then I normally prefer the spectacular performances in huge Japanese arenas with the Kami band. Then maybe Yava or Catch me if you can or some Black Babymetal like GJ or Sister Anger. There are some of the performances where the Kami band members do a show off, one at a time, like jazz bands doing improvisations usually do. Cool. Then, of course, there is the first song Doki Doki Morning in the original video. That is dope. And why not Gimme Chocolate, or cho-ko-re-to as the sing. In short, do not judge Babymetal after this video only.

Well, you're in it now! Your first full dose of Babymetal was a good one: the "Megitsune" MV is, in my opinion, a work of art like many of their other music videos. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing Babymetal - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV (released in 2012!) "Doki Doki Morning" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZrVmYRunrGXmNk ) then match it with the live version ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6ibioFudtJ7qMk ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs (I recommend finding "Gans Tomas" ( kzbin.info/door/6J4z8wT6M27z7tiYdaKOEQ ) on KZbin for many of the live versions - the quality is quite superior; I suggest the "Legend 1997" of 2013 playlist)). In short, travel the path that they and many of their fans took to get to where we are today. You'll find good songs and ones that aren't so good, you'll find triumph (Sonisphere 2014) and tragedy (the departure of Yuimetal in 2018), you'll find Black Babymetal, and you'll find that although Babymetal started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal"), they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box. If you should continue down the foxhole, you'll soon discover that Babymetal is best served live. But I strongly recommend that you avoid compilation videos: compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. They are nothing more than someone taking prime rib and turning it into hamburger, and are not much better than click-bait. You and your viewers deserve better. KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Another big difference from the band you mentioned is their versatility: BabyMetal has a lot of versatility, plays in many different genres and mix things up! When you are about to watch a new BM video you have no idea of what they can throw you! It may be Death Metal, Dubstep, Rap, Raggae, Ska, Progressive, Industrial, and many more! While Band-Maid are hard rock and Lovebites power metal, Nemophila has a little bit more flexibility and they also quite change up their style. Another band that is quite eclectic with their stylistic choiches is "Maximum The Hormone"! If you are interested in react to them, I would suggest to start with "Yoshu Fukushu"! :)
