This is definitely a song that leans a long way towards the pop end of the BABYMETAL sliding scale, further than most I'd say. However, this was the studio audio and I have read the live version is ... different. We can only wait for the DVD to hear the live audio and see how much it differs of course.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 "Difference" and "Diversity" is another name of BABYMETAL. Especially coming new album, a "concept album", must have an underlying story to be told whether explicitly or implicitly and 10 songs therein must tell us 10 different chapters in the story. As an eyewitness at the venue, I guarantee that the real live audio with Kami Band had more power and heaviness to stir your feelings. High and low undulation of Su's voice with maturity and sharp moves by Moa and Momoko disordered my emotions 😱. Although I was too mesmerized to digest everything at the live debut, I finally grasped its artistry as a whole by this MV. I am looking forward to seeing the live performance of this song again in two-day shows on April 1/2. I would like to see Momoko again there, too.

This side of Babymetal is a softer side. With some metal and rock elements. Thus the title of the album. Babymetal the other one. Is about their travels in the metal verse.

Xiaouiris, The exact same thing happened to me in reference to the emotion, which hit me towards the end of the song. I honestly can't explain it. Su's voice went to a special place along with the dance movements I have never seen before over the years. I think Su's voice is maturing rapidly to the point that I don't know to what end. I love her voice, always have, but this was on another level to me. When you get a chance, look at Moa's face expressions while dancing, it's different. Moa sang her part really well, and again her face expression was different while singing it. Finally, I believe this song was really important to the girls for unknown reasons. I read the lyrics before I heard this, and didn't see this coming at all. I don't know where this album is going, but I like it, I like it a lot, mainly because the girls seem to want it, and I respect that! Thanks for your reaction. Cheers!

Hi Xiaouiris, don't worry about getting emotional from Su's vocals. It's her superpower. There's only one other female vocalist who has that power to make you feel emotions when she wants that I know of. As for the new member as far as I'm concerned there's only 2 options if we're going to be totally logical. And even then, there's the first option which is 95% chance and then there's the second option which is only 5% as far as I'm concerned. The main option is as you've said Momoko. She's been with Babymetal all this time since Yui left, she knows all the dance routines already, she's done more concerts than any other avenger. Financially speaking, she makes the most sense. You don't need to spend the finances and time training some new member all the routines, and all the lyrics (assuming the new member will be singing parts of the song like Moa). We all know Momoko already knows the lyrics as you can see her singing along sometimes already. So logically it just makes sense. The second option which I don't even really consider an option, is Yui returns. While that one would obviously be what majority of the fans would love, I highly doubt that is the case. She's already been gone for 4 years roughly. So she'd have to learn all the new dances and lyrics to the songs, which Momoko already knows, which I already pointed out. Also, considering we don't know what was actually wrong with Yui, we can only assume that there is a possibility that whatever happened to her originally, medically speaking, may return again and cause her to leave again, depending on what her ailment was. So it STILL makes more sense to have Momoko be the new member. As much as I'd love to have Yui back, would even prefer it, logically speaking, in my mind its Momoko. Nothing against her at at. I think Momoko is adorable. I liked her and I always like Kano as well. Anyhow, thats my 2 cents anyhow. Until July comes around Only the fox god knows who it will be for sure though!

Regarding "is this metal": Babymetal appears to be absolutely fearless when it comes to genres. Some of their songs are absolutely metal and then some (like this one) are way off in left field. It's one thing that really caught me by surprise, I initially dismissed them as a gimmick when I heard Gimme Chocolate back in 2014-2015. It wasn't until I started listening to the rest of their catalog that I could admit I actually liked what they were doing.

3:30 Your comment on the first section said at the end: "maybe they didn't need tension (techniques)" That's right. Because that's the way to match the emotions of the first two lines of the lyrics.

Su's voice really has matured and blossomed! She always had awesome power, control, and range.. but with those strong core fundamentals she's really leveled up her sound! I absolutely adore it and she's now one of my favorite woman singer's around! Also, this song is yet another mixing of genres with metal elements, it for sure has metal drums and guitars in a few parts. I myself love these new softer sounding songs! They're gorgeous to me and indicative of the fact that they've grown up and have matured.

Thanks for this reaction. Su-metal, delivers a new sound for each song, new colors of her voice. A new way to wrap her emotions into. I always feel those help to get us emotional. Hits in the heart, not so much the brain. What was great about the original formation is that Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal all have a different dancing style. But that actually gives them strengths on how best to deliver different things to the audience. Yuimetal was the detailed dancer, Su-metal flows from feeling the song and Moametal is the 'Japanese idol', much more showing her facial expressions (compensating for Yuimetal's more introverted mind). Thus during a live performance they complemented each other. After Yuimetal left, Moametal had to pick up the lead dancing role. Had to examina every move they used to make a decide how am I going to explain it to the others. Moametal worked really hard trying to fulfill the role Yuimetal had, I hope they've now find a new 3rd member, because the vocals Moametal does usually work better when it's 2 voices instead of 1. I wonder if Momoko would have Moametal's old role and evolve over time to be Moametal's equal. Anyway, in the end Moametal and Su-metal will have the final say in who would be 3rd or should I say 4th member of Babymetal.

Nice to see you again, XI-METAL :) Even though I've watched all your BABYMETAL videos, this is my first time commenting. You're one of the few people in this KZbin genre whose opinions I really respect. Not because I always agree with them, but because you always manage to steer the conversation in new directions instead of repeating what has already been told thousands of times. That's how echo chambers are created, I think. When you said that you wouldn't recommend BABYMETAL to someone who would like to know more about the metal genre, I have two opinions that might be seen as contradictory. First, absolutely! I probably wouldn't either. I think BABYMETAL is a group that works the best when they seamless mix different music genres. The frontiers between different sounds sometimes are very diffuse while other times they are stylistically emphasized. I think a good comparison would be someone wanting to get into romantic movies, and instead of recommending a film that's solely constructed around its genre, you'd recommend them a french movie from the 50s that belongs to the Nouvelle Vague. Is it romantic? Probably. But there's so much more about it that the romance becomes the least important thing, or at least it's only interesting when paired and analyzed with all the other artistic elements. However, I can see how BABYMETAL could work as a "gateway drug" to heavy music. The fact that the J-pop elements are the most prominent in some songs could help ease the way for some people to get accustomed to that kind of instrumentality. I remember when I first discovered BABYMETAL back in 2015 I didn't know much about the metal genre and I was very easily "deceived" by the vocals, to the point I didn't even realize how much heavier their songs were when compared to pop artists. I think this leads us to the conclusion that BABYMETAL is kind of a genre of it's own, and there's no doubt for me that they can be as heavy and technical as humanly possible but they decide not to go that way. Think about Tales of The Destinies. There's no denying that song is top notch musicianship and overall artistry. That song is the perfect example of BABYMETAL creating music, quite literally doing what ever the hell they want with the instruments. And I'm sure they could release dozens of songs like this, but BABYMETAL's spirit was never this way. They are all about borrowing technique and artistry left by those considered to be the building blocks in what they do/did. I'm certain that inspires them to come up with their own elements and there you have it, BABYMETAL. I can't think of any other band or singer whose voice hits as hard as Su's, or never heard a song as crazy as BxMxC (I can't even recall ever hearing a bass and guitar sounding that nasty in any other song), listening a song about a mint-flavored bubblegum time machine or hearing such a beautiful, yet tragic, representation of womanhood found in Megitsune. Jeez... This is why I was abstaining from commenting!

On Su-'s vocals... This song got me during the softly sung verse where she let her natural vibrato through at the end of its first line. 😭 Edit: Yes, definitely in a low register for Su-. The lowest note she sings has that hint of loss of power. On the choreo/dance... I think i got what you meant about tension from your brief demonstration, even watching on the small screen of my phone. And the sections where Moa sings seem to me very much musically, and in the choreography, like something Perfume would do. On the song... The song strikes me as 1980's J-pop Idol song. With a more current arrangement because of some of the rock almost metal-ish elements. And the aforementioned Perfume City Pop bits. Momoko... Had tears of joy at the end of Road of Resistance during the 2019 arena show at The Forum (Los Angeles) where she was dancing in the 3rd spot. Bless her heart. I really like reaction videos from experts/professionals that explain the highlights of the why/what/how they get to their analysis. Great job. Thank you, xiaouiris!

Thank you for always focusing on the dance and reacting to BM. I am not good at English, so I am not able to understand what is being said, but I can sort of understand the part where they are explaining the dance. MOAMETAL's dance is not a dancer's dance, but an entertainer's dance. MOAMETAL herself says that she does not dance by the count, but dances to SU-METAL's song. SU-METAL also says that without the song and the music, they cannot remember the choreography, so I believe it is the same with MOAMETAL. The other MOMOKOMETAL dances in symmetry with MOAMETAL, so I believe that the emphasis is on matching MOAMETAL while dancing on the count. My daughter is also a dancer, but she is inevitably a dancer's dance and can only express herself from within, so I think that if she can refer to MOAMETAL, she will be able to dance more attractive dances. I hope you will continue to publish BM's reaction videos. From Japan🦊

This one leans much more into the j-pop side of Babymetal's repertoire, which has caused some consternation is some people who aren't used to Babymetal throwing curveballs from time to time. If there is one consistent thread that runs through all the songs from the new album that we have heard, it's that Su's vocals have developed even further than before, and she is even more of a central focus than she has ever been before. She has clearly done a tremendous amount of work during the hiatus, and it really shows in the vocal performances on the new album. A lot of the earlier songs lean much harder into their metal side than a lot of their more recent stuff. Metal Galaxy had a strong thread of pop and other styles running through it, but it also had Distortion, Starlight, and Arkadia which are all absolutely metal songs. The Other One seems to also be leaning in the direction of being poppier and more experimental. However, in a recent interview that was just posted yesterday, Su and Moa said that TOO is a 'gaiden' or side story, not part of the main Babymetal story, and that they regard themselves first and foremost as a metal band.

Interesting what you said about tension at the beginning of the song. My first layman's impression was actually that it seemed almost like too much tension in their arms, causing them to "overshoot" and then roll back a bit before the next move. But I know nothing about these things. What I find quite stunning is the synchronicity between Moa and Momoko. I only noticed it when someone else mentioned it, but I think it's on a whole new level in this performance. If Momoko is not chosen as the new third member, I'll be shocked. Just like Su's vocals (that were a little rough on the first day of the "tour"), I'm sure the dancing movements will get more refined over the course of their performances, getting rid of the small signs of insecurities like looking at their hands etc. These shots are from the first two times they have ever performed that song. I often get emotional just from the sound of Su's voice as well. And as she gets better and better, it happens even more regularly. There's something very special about her and her voice that I can't put my finger on.

It is a powerful song that hits the feels. As you said, with the girls not moving from their spot creates this central focal point of energy that wants to burst out, and it subtly transfers the energy to inside you in the form of the feels. That's cool. I expect this album to have a slightly different sound cause its supposed to be a concept album exploring the parallel universes. So many people are incorrectly expecting more of the same. This is Babymetal, and what they do is to always be unexpected! Love love loved your analysis. I learn so much about dancing from you. 5:42 Babymetal has a lot of metal songs, but is also known for being a band that experiments with many styles, mixing different genres with metal, like Night Night Burn! or Oh Majinai, so that makes us not know what to expect from Babymetal haha. If you are interested in listening to Babymetal songs that sound more metal, I recommend Tales of the destiny, Amore (Sumetal solo), babymetal death, Rondo of nightmare (Sumetal solo), Ijime dame zettai, Distortion and Syncopation, etc. Although songs like Babymetal death and Rondo of nightmare have almost no choreography. The most impactful of the so far released songs from the new album. My very first exposure to this song was at Makuhari Live on the last January 29th in the Super MOSH’SH PIT!! With Kami-Band's crazily spirited performanse, amazing choreo with some Japanese tastes/Butoh texture, and SU-METAL’sSirenic Voice matured to have redoubled lethality as well, the melancholy but intense beautiful melody line gave me goosebumps from the intro. Knockout at first sight/first listen, BABYMETAL’s killer masterpiece in ages for me. The official digital release was far less impactful than the live, but I was able to follow the lyrics carefully. My personal impression is that it is not just a simple love song. Rather, it sounds to me, in keeping with the concept of the new album, the song is a crying out of a sad but dearest, can’t-give up-on love in the center of this irredeemable one world heading for ruin. If the Monochrome is a general discussion in dealing with the impending Ragnarok or the ultimate destruction of our world, then the Light and Darkness can be a song depicting one of our particular ordinary but precious and dear everyday lives that may be lost in the imminent doom. I also feel "Something Uneasy" that Flugelhorn Old Man in Japan commented on Robk's reaction to this MV. If this song was intended to make people feel the frustration of losing love/loved ones, only hats off to them.

Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 I'm so glad to see you're enjoying this song at the end of your analysis, which, as always, was very interesting. If you're impressed by SuMetal lower register tone then wait to hear METAL KINGDOM, no choreography on that though, just theatrical opening. Also wait until the end of this month to get clips of newer songs and live version like Divine Attack and Monochrome with choreography. L&D is another great pop rock ballad with beautiful SuMetal vocals piercing into our hearts. Love the J-pop sound from 2000 and the nostalgic vibes mixed with the edm sound, makes me emotional too. Here's some official info about this song: "One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is "LIGHT AND DARKNESS" and this 4th pre-release digital single “Light and Darkness” centers around this theme. Because light exists, darkness also exists. And because darkness is present, there is also a world that shines. During the night when light and darkness intersect, what we seek after poisoned with darkness awaits a world filled with strong love. As the door opens, is it hope or despair that awaits us? The song expresses the duality in everything and the way things are perceived and interpreted differ depending on each person’s point of view." This was a world premiere at Makuhari Messe 2023 setlist, along with "THE LEGEND" (maybe the next single). Just lke you said, Momoko Okazaki is the third backup dancer performing here and possibly the new official member. MoaMetal once again adding the backing vocals and all of them dancing with the full trio formation. Here's the lyrics translated with some help. Thanks for sharing this. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥 Lyrics : MK-METAL / TAKEMETAL Music : TAKEMETAL Arrangement : tatsuoMETAL [Lyrics] Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes Take me to oblivion To an ideal world filled with love Open that door Come on Ah, Ah Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go Let me out. Let me out. let's jump out hit by the rain of joy Let me go. Let me go. Right now Let's dance the night away Take me to oblivion Take off the mask filled with lies Right now Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go In the night when sorrow overflows Keep this love warm Open the door now Come on Ah, Ah Even my dreams are poisoned A night where hope and despair seek and play together Ring out forever Even my heart is filled This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go

Always love your reactions🥰. When their music video came out I immediately thought about your comments about this choreography, since I enjoyed this a lot too. Also, Moa did mention from one of their interviews that in every avenger she tries to match with them. In terms of my fave avenger dancer, it would be Riho, since I think like her dancing technique (if it's a technique, lol), she had this dancer vibe in her, but, Momoko's okay too. If there is going to be a 3rd member, I think they will base it on vocal and dancing chemistry with Moa since that's how Yui and Moa were chosen. Just a guess only, not sure if that's how they will base it. I wonder if the decision will be from Moa. You should check their distortion live in download, they had a different outfits, hair, and even formation.

Babymetal uses a lot of metal guitar riffs and drum beats/fills incorporated with pop melodies, which is basically their signature sound. Many people could interpret this combination as rock, because rock lies somewhere between the two dramatically different genres.

I love your insights about both this new choreography and MOA and Momoko's dancing. But after watching Sakura Gakuin, I guess it all makes more sense, does it? 😅 I agree, this one is definitely in the techno spectrum, with nuances of rock, I like it, cause I like techno too, but has near nothing metal there, which doesn't mean that the new album will be all like that, we already know that there are gong to be heavy Metalcore songs too 😅. I think Light and Darkness is so upbeat because it's following Monochrome in the album. SU has now a wider range, she can hit notes deeper than before, and still reach quite high ones. 🤘🦊⚡

Thanks xiaouiris for this review. I totally agree that the choreo in this one is amazing. Actually, Su's vocals and the choreo are what carries the song for me. I am not really into the pop-vibe of L&D. But this choreo is for me proof that they were able to transition away from the hyper energy kawaii action towards a more somber and mature style without loosing expression, maybe even increase the level of expression. There is not much focus on Momoko in the video, but the intensity you see from Moa is really great. She used to be criticized for being too bubbly, not always matching a song's mood. But here this is not the case at all, she adds so much to Su's vocals, that I only watch the video when I want to listen to the song.

These choreos are also (most probably) the first learnt from start to finish by both Moa and Momoko only. It was not like before when choreo was already established by Moa and Yui or just by Moa with different, rotational dancers (Muscle Sisters, Dark Carnival girls, Riho, Momoko, Kano). It is now just Moa and Momoko, both learning from each other and exchanging mutual energy. You can feel that both are on same level, respecting each other as equal performers, not just on kind of senpai/kohai relation.

I really enjoy watching your reaction to the live performance. I learn so much from your video about dancing that I can appreciate how much effort was put into the performance. In a recent interview Su and moa talks about how different the new dancing styles will be compare to the old song. SU: We’ve incorporated more free and lively movements compared to before in these new songs, so I hope people will notice that. For example, “Divine Attack” is a fast-paced song, but the choreography is quite dynamic. Unlike the past, where fast songs often relied on small and quick movements, this time it's a fast song that utilizes more dynamic movements as well. Moreover, it’s hard to dance because it rapidly alternates between stillness and motion, and when I watch MOAMETAL dancing, I think “Wow, that looks really tough…!” SU: You have to stretch your whole body as far as you can go, even though the move only lasts for a second or so. MIKIKOMETAL has given us choreography that’s more powerful in this way, so I’m looking forward to it in the sense that it will take us to the next level… but it’s also quite challenging. Thank you to funnytoss for the translation of the interview. Here the link if anyone want to read it. stechen.blogspot.com/2023/03/2023pmc27.html

🤘🦊🤘 Oops, missed this one. Would I present BabyMetal as a prime example of Metal? Probably not. But if I was trying to introduce a person who was unfamiliar with Metal to the genre in hopes they'd love it and dive deeper? I'd definitely show them BabyMetal. It's got enough metal elements to qualify, but it's got enough non-Metal elements to make the Metal ones less jarring. I can think of way more Metal Metal bands, BabyMetal isn't Metal quintessence by any means. But it's a good gateway to ease non-Metalheads into the genre.

I was thinking, we will NEVER see the girls do that as they aren't street dancers. Even though Mikiko has street dance background. And then BAM they are doing a bit of the those very types of dance. I still don't see them doing it too often though 😜🤘🦊🤘 As for the song. Su sounds beautiful once again. Those notes she holds are amazing. And Moa...Moa voice is still pure joy to me and I want to hear her more.

Ahhh I love it! I’m definitely loving this new style, if this is to become a recurring thing

I actually really like that Babymetal isn't Metal all the time. To me the name "Babymetal" stands for the mixing of music genres in general, at this point. They started out with the goal of mixing "cute" with "heavy" and along the way they brought in other genres like Drum 'n Bass, Hip-Hop or even Reggae. That's why I love Babymetal. But I'm also glad they keep making some really heavy songs like MAYA. Can't wait to see a live performance of it!

This is probably a dumb question from a non-dancer but, when you talked about tension in the beginning of the video, is it about lifting your hands and your shoulders going along for the ride vs lifting with your shoulders so your hands come along with them? That is the only way I can make sense of it. 😄 I have no idea if they are good dancers or not but I do know I really like watching them. As meime mieme said earlier, "MOAMETAL's dance is not a dancer's dance, but an entertainer's dance." That right there might be why I like it so much. Maybe I can relate to it more..?🙂

Lots of people have asked me and it never occurred to me people wouldn’t know- sometimes I have to not assume! Tension is just deliberate stiffening of the body, it makes the movements appear a lot more sharper when you tense the body

Well chances are Moa has a balance issue as it's possible she had sudden hearing loss in her right ear. Only being able to hear from one ear can effect balance and coordination.

For this song I think you need to think older. This song started with almost straight up disco from the 70's to early 80's. One of the things Babymetal wanted when they started was a safe place for folks who are just starting to learn metal. Like them when they started. Especially for young ladies. The rock in the song comes later and is tempered by the piano part. Those parts could have easily been a Billy Joel or Elton John song back in the day. All great starting points for a journey into metal. And we know what comes next. they fall down the foxhole and journey into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Interesting... I got more of a mid-80's Robert Palmer vibe, especially the opening verse. Although as a whole it sounds more 80's J-pop Idol to me.

@@johnschultz7765 I think that comes from the quality. The bass line and drums. That's disco all the way to my ear. I may be getting up there. But the ears are still good

I think it’s about time you reacted to a real metal song. Please please react to Babymetal Death live at Legend 1997

@@xiaouiris I thought that not long after making the comment and felt a little mean - I know exactly what you mean - I sometimes worry that specialist reactors (e.g. vocal) miss much else that's going on - but great reactions - keep it up!

There is a video of Momoko's choreo compared to (supposedly) Moa's choreo of a kpop song, i can't recall the name of the song, the user who uploaded it, calls himself buttons metal. Would be nice if you react to it.

On the right is an unidentified person dancing with people known to be among Moa's real life friends. There's a good chance it is Moa, but it may not be.

This is a bit too poppy for me to get that excited about it and it's also a studio recording and I'd prefer to hear Su singing live. The lower register of her voice is because she's now 25 - her teenage voice has matured. Momoko is a good Avenger, but I don't find her performances charismatic and Moa is limited by the Avenger concept because she can't sing and dance in something similar to BBM. If Momoko does become the 3rd official member of BM it will be a massive disappointment if she isn't allowed to sing and pair with Moa in a new BBM, so I have my fingers crossed for that.

For the "want to introduce someone to metal" part. I agree with you. If somone asked for a good representation of metal, Babymetal would not be on my list at all. But if somone said that they didn't like metal and I wanted to change their mind, I think that Babymetal would be a great gateway drug. And I agree that this sound isn't very metal.

Why are you trying to explain baby metal dance moves??? There metal it’s just choreography
