Such a great interview....I can listen to her speak foe hours not only on life, but the culture and not only the Samoan culture, but the triangle. Amazing....born and raised in OC and always hearing the group Nonosina, it's so amazing to hear the journey and creation of the group, and to put a face to the name is just as great. YALL are doing such a great job with your interviews. Oh and Kose's hot takes LOVE LOVE it.

Wow there were so many powerful pearls of wisdom dropped in this video. I have 2 questions and 2 takeaways to share 1. What does Tulou mean? Do you duck your head and say “Tulou” when you are arriving to let people know you are arriving? Also what does sasa mean? 🌊 1. I am just taking my first steps in my journey with Tahitian dance and I realize after this video Tahitian dance needs to be done barefoot. I’ve been wearing ballet shoes. I think it’s disrespectful for me to be wearing ballet shoes. I’m gonna have to get over my germaphobic tendencies and take my damn shoes off. In bellydance you can wear ballet shoes or heels but I think for Tahitian dance it has to be barefoot to connect you to the Earth. 2. I am borrowing a sacred ancient dance from people who are not blood related to me -being respectful is of upmost importance.

Hot take: She said, “maybe sure like if your from another culture, I’m just trying to say if your White, No…” I’m gonna talk about Tonga and I’m laughing Like there aren’t white people right now with Tongan titles who speak better Tongan and know more in-depth history and culture about Tonga than most of the Tongans who live in America. What other cultures is she taking about? Any others cultures and teach dance, except for whites??? I don’t know any Mexicans with titles, or Hawaiians with titles… but they would have a pass over whites??? Like it wasn’t white people who helped write Polynesian books on how to speak and the histories… The ignorance in that comment made me unable to finish the rest of the podcast… sucks, the guest seemed really interesting…
