Great Video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Looked very time consuming to clean the barn gutters out by hand until you got that new pipe in . Old time farmers never had the luxury of Barn cleaning systems . My great grandfather he was putting milk in cans at the time he was farming. How he keep the milk cool in the milk house with a trap door under ground spring water set the can in there. We used play in that old burn when we were kids . In the 70s. I grew up around farms as a kid my father was a agricultural teacher . I help out on farms during haying season and other things on farms.

For years every barn, she'd and enclosed building we had was cleaned by pitch fork and shovel. Only until the snow got to deep and we threw the manure out in a pile then we used a tractor to clean up the pile when summer came around. We did have a gutter cleaner at one time. Thought we were in heaven at least in one building. Everyday it was hard work around the dairy. Love it and it never killed us.

Dairy farm here in upstate NY. We feel the Milk Man is the most important visitor to Our Farm. If he doesn't show up, No Money comes in. And I have to say we are Blessed with a very good Milk Man

Just found this video, interesting the difference from Ontario Canada milk trucking, here in Ontario milk must be picked up every 2 days and also the electric plug for milk truck is always on outside of barn with switch on inside. Just interesting to see things like this are different.

Why do some of the cows have shortened tails?

We purchased them that way. Their tails have been docked. That practice is no longer allowed at our coop, actually since 2017.

Is there a way to run the barn cleaner and catch it with the skid steer? Just a thought, maybe there isn't enough room for the skid steer.

Now I have a vertical pump in there that runs the liquid manure out to the pit in pvc pipe. Really hoping to get the underground line fixed before it gets too cold.

I know how that goes, before we got the pit, the manure was hauled out daily with a spreader. In winter no matter how clean you scrapped the spreader off, you would break the apron chain or it would pop off the rear sprocket. Then you would have to unload the spreader by hand in order to fix the spreader.

Do you ever wash down the floors like we did in the parlor to keep things really clean or do u ever use lime to keep it smelling halfway decent just curious?

We have a nice sharp scraper to keep it as clean as possible and we use a lot of lime on it.

Ha, that's been an ongoing challenge. We have a bunch of videos about it. It initially plugged the underground pipe. We have since discovered that the pipe is broken, so now we have the pipe dug out. Hoping to get everything put back together before winter.

Barn cleaner works, but the pipe that hauls the manure from the barn to the lagoon is plugged. We are going to have to jet the pipe after we pump the lagoon. Our video, Manure Wars: The shovel strikes back explains what happened.

We used to, I think there's a video on it, but now we only dry treat our high somatic cows. We do want to try using one of those test sealants.

@@trinitydairy glad to hear it! Really love your channel. I'm a retired well service person, was in the business for over 40ys. I used to enjoy getting out to lots of small dairy farms in the area, was a great deal of our business. Its really sad here now almost all of the small farms are gone, just hate to see all the old barns just falling in. I'm happy to see some of the tradition living on!

I need to ask, why are you putting sawdust? In the gutters? Is that used for absorbing the urine for easier clean out? That looks like a tough job!

Yes, when we were cleaning by hand it helped soak a lot of it up. Thank goodness we don't have to do that anymore!
