Not so fun fact: The real life Liquidators of Chernobyle consisted of approximately 200,000 soldiers who were rushed to the site in order to clean the area. They did not have proper hazmat equipment, so each soldier was given a thin leather apron, which provided little protection, if any. Out of the 200,000 Liquidators, only 90,000 would live, with the survivors suffering horrible Life-long illnesses, injuries, and side effects, and a study found that the rate of cancer was 4 times as high compared to the rest of the population. Ultimately, the one good thing to come from this is that all of the Liquidators were promised and recived substantial social benefits and medical aid due to their servise and military statuse.
@CreepyPersonCube.8 ай бұрын
Jeez, whoever employs our guy here doesn't give a SHIT about him. Every rad cleanup I've read about, they keep careful track of exposure and limit how many rads you can soak through your protective suit, then you need to take an extended break from the site. Also, you just stab the syringe in, huh? The needle's going to punch your dirty suit, dirty clothes underneath, and dirty skin into your veins. (There's a reason doctors swab the site with alcohol.) I'm sure nothing could possibly get into the hole(s) like radioactive dust to stick to your sweaty cancer- I mean skin. No I meant cancer. Yeah, I know realism isn't Job Number 1 here. I'm just needling the game, hehe. Good job uploader. PS: Wrote this before I saw the mask filter change animation. Did he just take his entire mask off? Well that's just special.

Well, if I understand it right, events of this game are during/shorty after Chernobyl NPP disaster. Most "liquidators", as was called the men participated in the "clean-up", did not gave any shit about those precautions and most of them went on multiple duty trips to the station. Some of them even volunatary gave their lives by going into the most irradiated part of the station to make sure other reactors won't blow up, saving this way millions of lives across the Europe.

@@Mr_Shtoporenko Ahhh, see, when I hear the word "Liquidator" I think salvage after the fact, not damage control. Most of the stuff I read about was from the Japan nuclear disaster, from the tsunami. Actually speaking of taking off helmets, one anecdote I read about was that the Japanese radiation cleanup crews were getting these splitting headaches. Turns out that nervousness about radioactive particles getting into their suits was causing them to strap on their helmets way too tightly. I know I would've done that.
@serPomiz8 ай бұрын
there's a reason if all of those standards were finalized AFTER the Chernobyl cleanup. while a few of the info was "slightly" overblown, pretty much every single worker involved jumped in with the "I'll likely die, if this doesn't work all of us and many more will die" during the early phases and "it's a one-time job we'll be fine doing as long as we follow what the scientists there with us tells" Chernobyl itself became, for no fault of it's own nor due to regular URRS propaganda intervention, a disinformation machine when it comes to radiation, but headaches due to too-tight helmets are always preferable to radiation poisoning

Ah, yes. It is absolutely necessary to take off your gas mask in a highly contaminated environment in order to change the filter. Also people saying that poking needles through the suit doesn't help stopping the radiation. Yes, so is the suit doesn't. What it does is it prevents radioactive dust getting in places it shouldn't be. The suit is made of fabric coated in rubber, so a hole from a needle will close on its own. Also, everything in syringes is painkillers and antibiotics. The only drug there is to prevent radiation poisoning is iodine, but that should be taken before an exposure and in case there is a possibility of radioactive iodine exposure.
