No you're wrong...Greeks use violin or kemane to play halay..!

"halay" means "crowded" in turkish.............. "alay". its is a dance style ,in balkans, anatolia and mesopotamia (in azerbaijan they says yallı to halays) greecs different , they use kemençe in halay. turks use kemençe only with blacksea "horons"

It is NOT a turkish word!!!!! The original etymology given in the Kubbealtı Dictionary is that the word is derived from the word "alay", which means "community, crowd". The word "alay" was transferred to Turkish from Persian. In Persian, it is taken from the Greek aláyi(on) αλάγιον "independent cavalry unit in the Byzantine army (10th century)". It probably comes from a Latin word Ultimately! 👍
