I have had bad oil changes at dealerships twice. In 1980 I got an oil change and they forgot to put on the oil cap and on the way home the oil came out on the engine and smoke started coming out from under the hood. It was a mess. In 2006 I bought a new car which I later brought in for its first free service. The tech broke the engine cover and didn't tell hurting the car's performance because it also contained the air filter. I bought a replacement off ebay but new it would have been $350. I just have too many problems, in addition to the time it takes, to delegate my oil changes to the professionals. My stepson's girlfriend's father took her Camry into the Ford dealership for an oil change because he tows many of their vehicles. The tech forgot to put in new oil and the engine burned up on the way home.

Consider using the Toyota D3 filter next time. The D3 is slightly larger with more filter elements and designed for the greater oil capacities we see in our 2UZs. Also, the Fumoto valve makes oil changes an absolute breeze. Have had mine installed for 2 years and can't imagine life without it :)

@@chowcares try out one of the Fumoto valves as well. Couple of us have put them on our Cruisers and love the simplicity and cleanliness of oil changes. Makes getting small samples easy. LOVE the videos you're doing BTW. Been recommending your KZbin channel to people who are new to the 100s as "required" viewing for understanding how to work on their rigs. Keep up the good work :)

I'd recommend Amsoil Signature Series with a Toyota Filter Better oil than Mobil 1 Project Farm on KZbin did extensive research on different brands including oil analysis, bearing wear etc..

Nice video! I mix Mobil 5w-30 with Mobil 0w-30 advanced fuel economy, with YZZD3 toyota filter, but every 10,000km!

All of the maintenance for my LC is done by Toyota Service Department. Have you heard of maintenance issues from a Toyota service department?

There’s always horror stories for any shop. If you have a good relationship with the service department you go to then u should be ok

Just a tip takeoff your oil filter first a good amount of oil drains back into the pan and if you put the plug-in before you do the filter you will be having about half a cup of old oil mixed in with the new ... great video cheers 🍻

The dipstick part with the lines.. is called crosshatch. Mesh implies an opening . Wow your old oil does not look like latte.. you must maintain it well. Never saw an oil filter wrench like that.. cool looking

Yeah the gaskets are SUPER cheap. Think I got a 10 pack from Amazon for next to nothing. And the oil pan gasket is 29ft/lbs of torque. I happened to do mine this weekend as well. Other thing is that I believe your LC has same lift as mine (1.5" OME) so with that and 33s I am able to slide a bucket underneath the truck and with a slight lift of the floorjack I have more than enough room to get a 5 gallon bucket under there and remove the oil drain plug without issue. Two oil changes and you are close enough to full on the bucket to take in and recycle the oil.

Good to know the torque specs! I rarely use the torque wrench out for the drain plug, maybe I should 🤔🤔🤔

@@chowcares Yeah 29ft/lbs ain't much so if you are snugging it up good and tight you should be good. Might be a good comparison next time, do it to what you think it 29ft/lbs and then actually check it. FSM also says that its ok to use a wrench/oil filter tool... basically get it to hand tight and then do 3/4 turn more MAX.

Consider sending your oil to Blackstone Labs far analysis. $30.00 They give you a very detailed report and keep track of how it is doing at each report over time.

@@chowcares for an additional $10, Blackstone Labs will also provide your TBN number (Total Base Number) … what that does is tell you how much oil life was remaining.

Not sure if there is a model year difference or what but the Amazon link points to the 90915-YZZD1. My 06 calls for the 90915-YZZD3. Otherwise, great video as always!

i believe the earlier vehicles called for hte D1. Later models like yours went to the smaller D3. I tried those before and did not notice any specific differenced besides the size iteself. many on forums suggest the D1 as an upgrade for its increased capacity.

Great KZbin with so many great tips. If you really want to see how your engine is mechanically, get a sample kit and send your oil sample to the lab for analysis on particle counts, early hints of bearing failure . They run about the same price as the oil. I would put in to start the engine and look for leaks and then check the oil level after the filter has oil. Jason Michael I rebuilt my brake master when I first for the LC. I forget what I did but there was a oem Toyota rebuild kit. I went that route because to buy a new master was over $1400 if I remember correctly.
