Yeah. I started following Chris Chan way back, in the beginning of 2011, and used to read the cwcki all the time. It was hilarious but I always felt very sorry for him and I always "rooted" for him. Always felt bad for all the trolling he suffered, despite the funny parts, and hoped he would eventually improve and turn his life around. Around that time he "left the internet" and I was hoping he would get better and start improving things. Needless to say, what happened next was extremely disappointing. Chris's mental state rapidly deteriorated. Some idiots pushed the "tomgirl" idea and it just helped to warp his sense of reality and made socialization even harder for him. Then Bob died, and since despite all his faults he was the only one still kept Chris somewhat in check, things just went downhill really fast. I found it sad, so I stopped following Chris by that time. I just recently got back into Christory, and found out about the disgusting Idea Guys and how Chris is like nowadays. It's depressing. Fuck the Idea Guys. Evil bastards. I feel really sorry for Chris. He is pretty much insane now. I hope he will one day get the psychiatric help he desperately needs. I miss classic Chris. As a matter of fact, my favorite "sagas" are those from before he was even famous on the internet. As I said, I always felt bad for Chris with all the trolling (despite some stuff being really hilarious - the highlights are the JenkinsJinkies stuff; the "hiding under a pile of toys"; the father call and liquid saga; the man in the pickle suit literally showing up with Emily), so I always "rooted" for him to get better and turn everything around. But the early classic, non-trolled Chris saga was absolutely fascinating and hilarious to me. People who are shy or socially awkward can empathize with him (except that his awkwardness and social ineptitude was extreme, so it was fascinating); it was still somewhat wholesome and with lots of room for optimism; and it was still absolutely hilarious (the Sonichu comics, his run-ins with "jerkops" and "manajerks", his attraction sign, his paper heart, etc. Remember Chris only became famous in the first place because of how weird and hilarious he already was). Anyway, Christory is depressing right now. I hope things will somehow get better for him.

@Grundleburger4 жыл бұрын
I know the Lars call was probably an attempt to bring out Chris' underlying racism, but honestly listening to the call again the whole conversation is extremely bittersweet. We laugh at Chris's attempts at ebonics but he's just picking up social cues from Lars, trying to mimic him or communicate with him in a way that makes sense in Chris' brain. Chris was legitimately patient and respectful during the whole conversation, and he didn't even make it all about him, it was a healthy back and forward. When the other person isn't talking down to Chris or trying to mess with him Chris is able to keep is composure fairly well. Imagine if Chris didn't only pursue women fo a chance at a boyfriend free girl, and didn't develop a hatred for all other men. I know we like to laugh at the trolls messing with Chris and his reaction, but that only served to isolate him more and more and hammer the delusional real life saturday morning cartoon narrative in his head. Imagine how differently things would've gone if Chris had like met a group of guys in highschool or at PVCC that felt sorry for him and took him under their wing. I know people like to remind everyone how self centered and manipulative Chris is, but that was only brought on and worsened month after month by him literally feeling like it was him versus the world. Maybe this whole time Chris didn't need a sweetheart, maybe he just needed a friend.

As soon as the call started, I posted a comment saying the call felt like a hate crime. I deleted it though after listening on. Even though Lars was a troll, he treated Chris with more respect than literally anybody in this entire debacle so far. Had he been a real person, I think he and Chris could have been genuinely good friends and he could have been a really positive influence on Chris. It’s really weird to say, but Chris is very much a product of his environment and upbringing. He really could have used a friend.

I've been trying to figure out why Christian is so fascinating. I feel like he is a sort of archetypal extreme, a real life maxed out character trait, that can tell us more about that trait itself, and can be used as a reference for it. "You're acting like Chris Chan." "Oh, that's not good, I must be doing something wrong." But what is the actual trait or behaviour that he embodies and makes into flesh? Laziness? Stupidity? Unwillingness to learn from mistakes? Being a meek manchild? All of these are true, but they seem like just manifestations of a core, meta problem. Then it hit me. Chris is not a maxed out character trait. He is the eternal level 0 at every skill. If life was an MMO, he failed to put in any grind, confront any enemies or complete any quests. He is running around the first village he was dropped down in, angry at all the other players that he cannot defeat them. He is the embodiment of absolute weakness, and a complete unwillingness to put effort into improving his circumstances. Add to this a predisposition for narcissism put on steroids by the "fans", and he became unshaken in the belief that he is actually already perfect. That is also what made him so comical, the contrast between the reality of his absolute weakness and his delusions of absolute greatness.
