Man, I cannot get over the intro of the song, its such a powerful, outright devastating opener that does a great job at setting up this "end of the world" atmosphere, taking a theme that we used to know as the final boss of the game, and fragmenting it like the void fragments the very planet you are wandering, eventually melting into its own identity after the initial shock of what you're seeing wears off, and you fight to stay alive against this new threat, with the funky sax coming in as you get in the zone. I love this theme. Immensely. And the intro is a major part of why it all just works so well for me. Thank you, Chris!

This is such a kickass theme but it feels like so much more as well. If I had to describe the tone, it'd be a vengeful madness. It sounds like in your relentless pursuit for answers, to get to the bottom of the mystery, you've fallen into a yawning abyss and continue to plummet.

I actually didn't know much about Tsakas until I saw a vid of him at the Half Note with a Bass player I followed for a while, Yoel Soto a few months ago, regardless, they are all phenomenal musicians! Sometimes, the solos in game are different from the recordings you have here and on bandcamp. Will this sax solo be played in it's entirety in game, too? Or was there a different take used for that? Love how 4:34 resolves almost like 25.3N 91.7E, right before the disgustingly fantastic 4:37 breakdown. I want to thank you, Chris, as one music nerd to another. No other album has made me consistently do 1 of 2 things; sit in solitude at the mastery of tonal emotion coming from the music, or point at my screen and say "God damn, the madman! He did a thing! What does one even say to this? The music feels disorienting, never-ending, and clearly has some purposes beyond our comprehension. The entire album has built up to this moment. We ask "out of whose womb came the ice?", and the music replies: "Behold, the face of the deep!" The face disorients us with its magnitude, we see it stretch to infinity within the confines of our field of view, and - horrifyingly - it makes no sense. We are treated, as listeners, the same way that one would treat an ant running across one's desk. An intruder, but hardly even an annoyance. I would say that Bigger Ukulele reflects a sense of anger and defiance, it is very much the theme of a world raging at our presence. This song, in contrast, is what WE feel when we finally see the face of the deep. In particular the reference to Bigger Ukulele implies a boss theme, only for that to be swiftly subverted with, "Wait, what!?" So, we ask why there's a saxophone in a boss theme. The music says, "Behold, the face of the deep!" It does not care if we understand its methods. One could never explain to an ant what the purpose of a desk is. This must be your boldest piece of music ever - for the first handful of listens I actually had no idea how I felt. Well, I actually still don't know how it makes me feel beyond, for lack of better word, 'panic'. Isn't it just wonderful how music can express things that words and images could only ever hint at?

The saxophone comes out of nowhere I love it

The combination of Wa Wa synths, heavy guitars, insane drums and altissimo saxophone squeals really puts you in the mood to fight (what I'm assuming is) an eldritch void abomination.

One of the most unique game OSTs I’ve ever heard. Was this inspired by King Crimson?

@@AstronautDown i thought it was steven wilson's works that inspired this track. Great thing nonetheless

This track in particular is a love letter to Dream Theater. I'd say that Steven Wilson, and mostly Porcupine Tree is an important influence overall.

@@AstronautDown the parts after 3:30 reminds me of both the sax on "The Pin Drop" and the keyboard on "Holy Drinker", and also is just epic as they are.

@@AstronautDown I knew it had to be Dream Theater, also Porcupine Tree is epic. Mike Portnoy and Gavin Harrison inspired me greatly. This song is sick btw

I love the “your gonna need a bigger ukulele” motif at the start except it’s way more intense because of the fact that you may be fighting the voidling post Mithrix or maybe just got through the void locus
