There's no joke here. How is looking directly into a camera and addressing the situation considered dodging it? Man's making the obvious ethical choice to distance himself from from something he couldn't possibly cover objectively. You get a rare thumbs down from me, Colbert.

Totally in agreement on this. I usually love what LSSC has to say but really going the wrong way on this. He's making the right choice to not cover this story. Objectivity can't be achieved. I couldn't talk about something like this on air without being emotionally involved if it was my brother.

This is the reaction of a professional. In my country, Colombia, when Ernesto Samper was elected as president, his brother, Daniel, was of one of the most important journalist in the country and director of one of the most important news magazines in the country. He asked to his boss to move him to Spain to a position without editorial responsibilities while his brother was in power, because he couldn't cover his brother presidency without conflict of interest. Journalist are humans and ask(or mocking) them to do things that we wouldn't do is unethical.

People commenting "this is hypocritical because he had interviews with Andrew before...", like yes he did. But from what I heard years!!! after he first started at CNN. Their interviews took place during the first months of the pandemic when it seemed as though Andrew was handling the situation better than other governors. So it made sense for CNN to say "hey we have the unique situation that his brother is a news anchor for us, why not have the two do a few interviews" especially when Chris himself tested positive. It makes a 100 percent sense that he isn't going to and *shouldn't* cover the current issues with Andrew because there is no way he could remain unbiased. As he said that's his brother! Other news anchors at CNN are covering it though and that is honestly the most logical way to handle the situation. Like, please tell me, what else do you expect Chris to do???

I agree. Emotional attachment to such a story is detrimental to objectivity. LSSC I has been making a lot a of very questionable choices with where they've taken their jokes lately. If they did families couldn't function. What I objected to about Trump's kids was not that they didn't turn on their father and rend him but that they HELPED him in his nefarious deeds and helped cover for him. I kinda understand him trying to not publicly talk about this. He loves his brother but is also hurt by this news. I would say it would be different if Chris knew before this came out, in which case he has a duty to report the truth, but from how he has been acting the past week, he sounds as if he learned about it the same way we have and in caught in the crossfire. Don't really know if he is being a bad reporter for not wanting to report this or not, but I can imagine it being emotionally taxing. It's not like Chris is publicly defending his brother either. Man with power abuses power: Tale as old as time. Correct me if I'm wrong for thinking any of this, or maybe he should do his just do his job like any other day and not feel anything after learning his brother is a monster.

I agree that the Late Show missed the mark on this one - should be attacking Andrew instead. Although I WILL say that it´s kind of phony for Andrew and Chris to be yucking it up in prime time during the "good" times in spring and now it´s a conflict of interest. Conflict should be observed in good and in bad times. It´s like when the politicians trot out their family members to campaign for them but when someone says something critical about that family member, the candidate is stunned, shocked and deeply saddened and cries foul: "Hands off my wife, she´s not the candidate, bla bla."

@@warpedjaffas1 as Arnab said in the comment above you: "Personal allegations and state policy are two separate things." If I were a news anchor covering my brother's policy positions or even his achievements, I would have no conflict, because me covering those things would have no impact on the personal relationship between me and my brother, and the position that I hold both publicly and privately on those issues are the same. When it comes to discussing serious misconduct allegations however, that is something that I could not cover negatively without affecting our relationship, and I couldn't cover them positively or hide them without being publicly dishonest and risking my job. I would want to talk to him personally about it, and I could easily find out information that I could not share without dramatically affecting the case and breaking my brother's trust. I would obviously heavily disapprove of his actions, but also, he's still my brother, and I would not want to go out publicly and shit on him, because that would likely also impact on my relationship with my parents, my other siblings, my in-laws, and my nieces and nephews. The only option that Chris Cuomo has that avoids both the accusation of familial bias and the breakdown of his relationship with his brother is to acknowledge the existence of the allegations while stating publicly that he will not be covering them, pointing viewers to other commentators that WILL discuss them - which is exactly what Chris Cuomo did. What other suggestion do you have? Should Chris Cuomo have to quit his job because he can't cover his brother's misconduct? No!
