That's the most ridiculous claim to ever make. The US's independence was won violently, its conquests both of the natives and of other colonies was violent, it has a violent history both of slavery and of ending it, and neither WW1 nor WW2 was won by negotiation. Especially the US, as you rightly pointed out, has a vivid history of political violence. Several US presidents have been shot, several died that way, and even more attempts have been made. Also the most recent example of political change for the benefit of society motivated by political violence comes from Japan, where this kind of thing truly _is_ rare; yet when Abe died, tue influence a predatory cult held over japanese politics was broken and the cult shattered.

Depends on the person to person too... long have I heard Derek Chauvin defenders or his kin say he was dealing out justice for a forged 20 dollar bill or the brutality against individuals in Iraq was justice. The hypocrisy and simple willful ignorance is astounding. Violence obviously moves the needle, just the uncertainty is if it creates good or bad outcomes. The nature of violence seems misunderstood as when we think of the concept of ownership, what does ownership even mean? It means you can use violence either directly or indirectly to defend said property. The state has a monopoly on violence, its literally what makes it the state and able to do what it does. Violence as a blanket condemnation is unserious, we recognize violence used for self defense is often justified. The discussion should be when is violence justified and when isn't it? Sure we don't want to live in a world where civilians are gunned down on the street but we can't willfully accept subjugation. Violence is the voice of the unheard with no recourse to change the status quo. It's often used when there are no other options and simply talking or voting has simply shown to not work, systemic problems don't change by simply talking. However violence alone doesn't solve the world and no one has the will or resources to fight everyone all the time. Diplomatic solutions are important but consequences have to be on the table or no one will take you seriously, it's part of diversity of tactics. If violence related to political ends is terrorism then the policy of ownership, self defense and other forms of violence serve a purpose to uphold a status quo and are thus political, you could make a strong argument almost any form of violence is terrorism as it's often used as a threat of consequences to unwelcomed outcomes. As Carl von Clausewitz said "War is an extension of politics by other means".

Definitions of the word terrorism as it is used today: 1 The use of violence or the threat of violence, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political goals. 2 The act of terrorizing, or state of being terrorized; a mode of government by terror or intimidation. 3 The practise of coercing governments to accede to political demands by committing violence on civilian targets; any similar use of violence to achieve goals. Especially the first one is so fuzzy that basically any act of violence that can be explained at least partly by someone's morals or values can be called terrorism. First conservatives start using the term as such to normalise using the word to describe any violence on any civilian for any political goal, and now they've made anything and everything political, so if you defend yourself against violence and you have expressed an opinion on the value of human life in the past, it's terrorism under the now common definitions of the word terrorism.

Violence happens when no one will listen. This country arose out of violence of the unheard.
@defro125Күн бұрын
The country arose from the voices of wealthy landowners who wanted a larger piece of the pie. They threw off the shackles of the crown, so they could reap the profits amongst themselves.

Violence never accomplished anything…so they admit the war on drugs, the war on terrorism, the ongoing genocide (all violent) are pointless?
@PSSavantКүн бұрын
I mean think about this. What do you really think happened during the french revolution. People were simply tired and reached a breaking point in a system that only serviced the wealthy. It's a natural reaction and this is why things need to change before our society collapses.
@Virjunior01Күн бұрын
Fuck it. Let it collapse. Look at France NOW... nobody ever learns. The rich will always weasel their way into power and use bigotry to divide a stupid, non-vigilant populace. Every single goddamned time. And it SPREADS. Elon Musk, Peter Thiel... those are South African white boys raised in apartheid. Why the hell are they calling the political and cultural shots *here?*

Multi billions are going to companies that stand between patients and their healthcare, just have a think about that for a moment !
@Leonaza7Күн бұрын
This is why we can’t let them privatize education, postal service, ss, Medicare, Medicaid or the VA. Because look at our healthcare system and how predatory it is. I don’t think we will ever pull it back from corporate America.

They literally STEAL money from sick and injured people and make them jump thru hoops to get healthcare.

I appreciate you giving Cuomo credit for having the discussion, but his purpose in having her on is to admonish her for her “support” of Luigi. Then, whenever she tries to focus on the evils of the healthcare system, he brings the conversation back to Luigi.

We don’t “accept” that profit-driven health care is normal. We just don’t have a choice. No political candidate wants to touch this issue because the health insurance lobby is so powerful.
@annalau2596Күн бұрын
I think there is a good chance for a populist movement that focuses on things like healthcare and maybe proclaims that it will not discuss culture war issues at all because they are designed to be a distraction and divide.
