Aaron Plummer Manger. It's like those things outside saloons you see in westerns, full of water. Like a feeding trough for animal feed or water 'cept Jesus' was full of hay. That was supposed to be why it was pivotal, it's a really hard up place to have to use for a crib and would be found in most barns back then. :) I wouldn't personally consider it a "christmas" song but it's most definitely about the birth of Christ.

Travis MacDonald Actually, a "manger" was the lower part of the house where the animals were kept at night and the people slept upstairs in an area that was loosely translated to the word "inn." Mary, Joseph, probably a lot of other family members were stuck downstairs so Mary had female relatives and in-laws present when she gave birth. We don't know if she was acquainted with any of them, but it would have been a good thing since she was about 13 at the time.
