evert was really nailing the ball even on her 1st serve... i don't think evert gets enough credit for pushing steffi in this match, in fact for whatever reason evert was pushing graf more towards the end of her career (minus the wimbledon semi in 89 when evert wasn't match tough and dealing with heel issues).. the fact is evert is 33 years old going to be 34 later in that year and she was someone who started and played in a different era playing with wood and growing up learning the game with wood! I THINK IT'S INCREDIBLY IMPRESSIVE that at her age AND having to change to the technology of the game she could still push graf to the edge..says alot for evert to be right up there with graf and martina as GOAT....

Steffi won the match with 78-61 on points. Steffi won 5 service games with Evert winning no or only one point. Evert won only one such easy service game. Should have been a 62 63 win or so for Steffi.

Thanks for this match... I had never saw this before today. I was impressed with Chris, although she wasn't serving well, and I think she could have played better. She certainly stayed in there, and had her chances for sure in the second set.

One of the best played Evert matches against Steffi , was there that day and the heat was oppressive , have no idea how they ran around and played in it .
