What was the negotiation about? From what I remember...Suge wanted Ja Rules Blood In My Eye album to be distributed & marketed by Death Row. In return, Tha Row’s flagship artist at that time...Crooked I was gonna have his debut album distributed & marketed by Murder Inc. Can someone clarify this? The concept was Ja Rule needed to get the streets behind his back again. So what better way to release the Blood In My Eye album under Death Row since Murder Inc. at that time was being crucified in the public eye. This is why Chris mentioned the Makaveli album because Ja Rules Blood In My Eye was gonna be like how 2Pac did the album roll out for Makaveli. It was suppose to be just a mixtape for the streets which was turned into an album that would hit the stores. And that mixtape was filled with a lot of diss songs towards 2Pac's enemies at that time. Similarly, Ja Rule had enemies whom he was dissing all over Blood In My Eye. So Suge sold this idea to Chris about how Death Row made Makaveli a success and that Death Row could reinvent Ja Rule with that type of look. Therefore, with the production of The Inc. & Crooked I’s street lyricism & buzz...he would bring Murder Inc. back to relevance with a debut album other than black child, tah murdah, or them other underlings on they label. So it was a one album deal trade off in which both labels would benefit from. Clever move in my opinion for Suge. Especially when your trying to push your label to the top in a split second as well as at a time when Suge was being blackballed by the industry. He did every thing he could do to put Death Row on top again......even tried to bring back Death Row East with Lakey Da Kid.
@RICO_SUAVE_86_5 жыл бұрын
Rowlex Enterprise That story sounds vaguely familiar to me. I remember I was in high school during that time and for a good year or two Murder Inc and Death Row were messing with each other heavy. All the 2nd generation Death Row artists (Crooked I, Eastwood, Spider Loc, etc) were featured on multiple Murder Inc releases such as Ja Rule's The Last Temptation and the Murder Inc compilation album to name a few. At that same time Ja Rule and Ashanti were featured on Tha Row's Dysfunktional Family soundtrack and Irv Gotti even supplied some of the beats for that soundtrack too. I definitely wouldn't rule out the story you gave given what was going on at that time or at least some other variation of it. Both labels also benefited from the affiliation due to having mutual enemies (Suge vs Dre and Em) and Murder Inc vs G-Unit. All these different sides got dragged into the beef and it got really crazy for a minute (Hussein Fatal and Benzino joined the side of The Inc/Tha Row and Busta Rhymes and others joined the side of Aftermath/G-Unit/Shady Records). It was literally nothing but diss records back and forth between both sides during 02 and 03 lol
@RowlexEnterprise5 жыл бұрын
Human_Guinea_ Pig_ It was hip hop at its finest that time because everyone squad up with each other. NaS sided with Murder Inc. too at that time and i remember in an interview....Suge mentioned that if there was a Death Row East....it would be what Murder Inc. is representing right now or something to that effect. The Source Awards 2003 should have been a historical event because you had all the labels in existence that time. Tha Row, Murder Inc., Aftermath, G-Unit, Roc A Fella, Dipset, Bad Boy, Ruff Ryders, Cash Money, i think No Limit was still thriving then. But imagine all of them under one roof. Unfortunately only half of the squad that I mentioned was in attendance.
@RICO_SUAVE_86_5 жыл бұрын
@@RowlexEnterprise Big facts bro. No Limit was still thriving then. Not as much as they were in the late 90's but still putting out great independent albums thru Koch Records. The early 2000s was officially the beginning of the end for all the legendary crews/labels/groups like the ones you mentioned. Many labels were trying to make a second comeback (Death Row, Ruff Ryders, No Limit). Definitely a good and interesting time. I still listen to those early 2000s records to this day.
