In this video, board certified neurologist Neurogal MD discusses actor Chris Hemsworth’s shocking discovery about his genetically increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease. We’ll delve into the science behind the APOE-E4 gene and its impact on the brain. We will also explore ways to minimize the risk of developing dementia, regardless of genetics.

My neuropsychologist suggested I get tested for APOE4 as I suffered a serious concussion and have used anesthesia for elective surgeries several times. I’m 66 and was feeling worried about memory issues. I was happy to learn I have a2/a3 and not at high risk. For anyone that didn’t have the results they wanted, please know there is SO MUCH you can do to lessen your risks! “The End of Alzheimer’s” book by Dr. Dale Bredesen is invaluable to learn what not to do and what TO DO for your brain health. There is hope!

I am wondering if fasting could help stave off Alzheimers considering the regions you mentioned where APOE-E4 seems concentrated, they had food scarcity

My mother was diagnosed with dementia 4 years after my father died. After he passed he left her with some, undone business to take care of on his part. The whole thing really zapped her and she was starting to get depressed! From that went into dementia..

I have the ApoE4 allele and what can and cannot eat are by far the most difficult part of having this. I am about to give up and just take medications to lower everything back to green.

I applaud you for working on lifestyle modifications to improve your health/modify your risks! I understand that dietary restrictions can be challenging. Have you considered working with a healthcare provider or nutritional coach? They might help you find a way to make the necessary dietary changes more manageable and tailored to your needs.

My mother (80y now) was first diagnosed with Alzheimer by a neurologist in an hospital due to an aphasia and urine infection (3 years ago). After 2 months in the hospital, she's out with the infection out but the aphasia was not really disapeared. We saw an another neurogolist and he found out she has Parkinson. Since she take meds for give her dopamine. She was fine after even she lost a lot about the walk (3 yers ago) and now it's the talk she begin to lost. She found her words for talking to us. Have you do a video about Parkinson by the way ? I would like to know more about it for help my Mom & Dad.

Alzhiemers may be an excess of junk protein uncleared, leading to inflammation. As well as other things that permeate the BBB like LNPs, microplastics, and adjuvants and excipients in injections that are metallic.

Japan has low incidence of heart disease and alzheimers and it may be due to their diet. Fermented soy, a diet staple, may clear amyloid plaques.

It's more likely due to genetics.

Very interesting. Fermented soy is the highest dietary source of vitamin K2, which removes calcium from bloodstream and facilitates transport to beneficial sites. I never considered the neurological implications of high vitamin k2 intake. Combine that with their high omega-3 intake and it makes sense why they are renowned for their longevity.

Is a primarily whole foods plant based diet, staying away from booze, and regular excercise an effective way of avoiding Alzheimer's?

I’m almost 80 yrs old. About 6 months ago , a neurologist whispered to my niece that I had early Alzheimer’s. I’m seeing him tomorrow. I’m wondering if he thought I had it then , so why didn’t he give me information that would help instead of just whispering to her he thought I had the disease ?

So is it that all these things cause damage and something acts on that damage? Many people don't eat right, don't get sleep..etc and don't develop demintia or do they? Is there something at play here that is not identified that acts on this damage? Just curious.

what role does inflammation play? I had ealry onset demintia and was able to reverse it; I believe inflammation played a role, but this is not my field so it's just a theory. I have a chronic condition called adheasive aracanoiditis, many people with this develop early demintia.

Hey @neurogal. Love the public health messaging you do. As a child neurology resident who sees himself building a similar platform one day (a bit more kid focused) I definitely look up to you and what you’re doing here as part of my inspiration 😊I’d love to one day have the chance to pick your brain 😜

@neurogal, I also have the double APOE4 gene. :( My mom is in late-stage dementia now. I would love test her to see if she has a double APOE4 or just a single APOE4, just for curiosity's sake, really. I don't think she is even capable at this point to spit into a test tube. I am making some lifestyle changes right now!

You could do the type of test that only requires rubbing the inside of the cheek with a swab. That's what I did on MyHeritage, and I found out that I have one copy of APOE4.

Dementia and Alzheimes are connected to loosing all head hairs/balding. Thats connected to extreme acidosis in the head/scalp and protein plaquing in the brain. Chris's hair still looks good, but not so much in the case of Bruce Willis.
