I met him a couple of times while working his shows at a small intimate venue. He’s a truly nice person. Kind of shy and very humble. He came out to the lobby after the shows to meet everyone. He stayed until the last person left and then had some wine. It was a truly beautiful sight to watch as he spent hours with his fans and admirers, just mingling.

@ I was pretty surprised. Usually, if the bands even meet fans, they’re with handlers and it’s a fairly quick, streamlined deal. It was much different with him. He genuinely cared, talked and just hung out with everyone for a long time. So much so that he almost became just another dude at the party. Good soul in that boy.

Lol someone famous. He is the original singer and songwriter too iirc. And I don't think there is a famous cover. You may have heard the original recording. It played a lot in the 90's-00s world wide. But this was his only major hit iirc. And the amazing thing about Chris was he sounded almost exactly the same in the original recording and live! That's how great he is/was then. Highly under-rated!

When this song was popular around 1990-91, I was enduring one of my greatest heartbreaks. Coming off of a previous heartbreak, i befriended a beautiful woman who was married. The connection between us was powerful and our mutual chemistry was off the charts. She started dropping hint bombs that she wanted more. I tried to ignore the hints. I was falling for her big time, and i was afraid that taking this relationship there would cause our relationship to implode and end completely. But the hints kept coming, and i convinced myself that i would lose her from my life either way, because i was just frustrating her by ignoring her messaging and not giving her what she so obviously wanted. So, i made the decision to let it rip, and we had an intensely passionate night of lovemaking. It was right before the Christmas holidays, and we didn't see each other for a week after. When we next spoke, she was distant and expressed feeling guilty for her transgression toward her husband and didn't want to see me anymore. She acted as if I had no reason to have such strong feelings for her and as if she never had any for me. What a wicked game you play, to make me feel this way What a wicked thing to say You never felt this way What a wicked thing to do To let me dream of you..... indeed This song was in fairly constant rotation for a while during this time in my life.

Oh my darlin, the entire Baja Sessions album, is a VIBE! And I think you’ll love it This song isn’t from it, this was on “Heart Shaped World”, which is also a great album! Met Chris Isaac once in Atlanta, Ga. He was probably15-20 years older than me then, him in his 40’s and I was in my 20’s . He was famous from this song, the original, he was famous from Fire Walk With Me. I was in ATL to see a Cake show, as I recall, and he stole the show. I’ve met many celebrities, But none nicer and more interested in me than he was. I mentioned Baja Sessions as one of my favorite albums of the time and he wanted buying more than to hear what else I was interested in (noting similar) and actually pulled out a notepad and wrote down a few of the other albums I had mentioned to him. A real treasure

See Biss? This is why you ALWAYS START WITH STUDIO! Cos your preference for live will always prejudice you on the studio mix. If you start with the studio, not only do you get the original "vision" of the arrangement (and then be able to recognize changes in live versions later), you'll like it as much as you like it, but then when you do a live, it'll be like a step up. No disappointments! 🖤

the studio version is almost identical to this live performance; like 95-98%. Not a bad thing by any means, the only big difference between this and the studio version is some tonal clarity on the vocals during the chorus (because layering) and the extra bells and whistles you get from studio mixing, like extra targeted EQ, compression and reverb, etc. (stuff that's effectively unnoticeable for the most part)

I LOVE live versions too. I feel like Depeche Mode, their live versions have so much more life and energy than in the studio (and the studio versions are still great). But in this case, I've seen this performance before and it is beautiful, however...the studio version and video are also exquisite. A very sensual video with Chris (who looks like a Calvin Klein model) and Helena Christenson (who actually was a CK model). His vocal performance, the lyrics, and that pristine, languid guitar riff make for an all time classic ballad. I can sing this song...but I'll never have his hair ;)
@richiecabral36025 күн бұрын
This is originally Chris Isaak's song, but it has been covered and used in media a lot! Chris Isaak always seemed like a pretty cool character to me, but if I'm being honest, I probably never really knew a whole lot about him outside of this song. This song was so huge when it came out though, for good reason, but also because the music video included him frolicking on the beach with Helena Christiansen, one of the top supermodels in the world at the time, which definitely caught the attention of boys of a certain age at the time, like myself. I'm one of the people that usually prefers when you do the studio version, but honestly, other than seeing the video, the studio version isn't that dramatically different than this version. This was definitely a career peak for Chris Isaak, but I'm not sure that this song was very representative of his music in general. It's been so long, and I probably only ever heard so much of his stuff, but just from his look, he had more of a rockabilly style (rockabilly is a word thats a contraction of "rock and roll" and "hillbilly", "hillbilly" is a disparaging term that generally refers to country people, but more specifically uneducated people that come from up in the hills and mountains, like Appalachia or the Ozark mountains, rockabilly is a pretty specific and niche genre of music and fashion that's a combination of early rock n roll and country music, that's often nostalgic of the 50s era style) that I think was probably more representative of his music. I remember he used to wear like those old Marty Stuart suits, which that reference is probably lost on you, but he's wearing the Hawaiian shirt in this one, but look at the style of his guitar and guitar strap, if that helps at all. Personally, I kind of dig that, and always thought he looked pretty cool, but I don't think it fits what most people assumed about him from this pop sounding song, and that most of his stuff was probably a little more country than they expected. Which is maybe why outside of this song, he was never really as popular as he could've been, but who doesn't love this song? It's one of the all time greats!

Since few folks ever mention it, I feel obliged to do so....Chris had his own Tv sitcom, The Chris Isaak Show [2001-2004], which was a low-key, somewhat fictionalized look into the lives of Chris and his real bandmates...it had a weekly zaniness to it, much akin to Seinfeld. and it featured a lot of live performances. It was a unique, gem of a show that any fan would thoroughly enjoy. I never missed a single episode during its' original airing, and, TBH, I still miss it, 2 decades later....for those who never knew, check it out!! you won't regret it.

*Chris Isaak* starred in *"The Chris Isaak Show"* sitcom, about 2001-2004 ①. I think this song was sometimes played on that. People have identified the movie "Wild at Heart" and the music videos. Further, I think he made guest appearances on TV shows. Maybe he was a good guest (the star of a sitcom, and a few well well known songs which he could sing)? Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. 🎅🎉 ☮ ① I remember the mermaid more than the storyline.
