Chris Miller is the former Secretary of Defense with a 27 year career in the United States Army. Throughout his career, he oversaw multiple special operations organizations, culminating with his command of the 2nd Battalion, 5th SFG(A).
In Part Two, Miller recounts the horrific abduction and murder of human rights activist Kayla Mueller by ISIS forces. This atrocity would later result in "Operation Kayla Mueller," the mission that targeted and killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

I’ve had this very discussion with Mr Miller. We for a long while have had a void of true leaders that actually understand what leadership is. The DoD down into the actual branches of our military have become politically motivated. Be it for favors, future positions or just the greed of future riches or they cling for power and control. Serving more than two decades and being overseas on deployment when America was attacked on 9/11 I’ve worked with all levels of leaders. The recent years have only grown exponentially worse and I have not been able to make recommendations for anyone to join any branch or service because of the politics and how they have shifted focus adopting woke ideologies from the top to the lowest level. Congress getting involved even with the physical fitness standards in my opinion was an influence that should have never occurred. Huge thanks for making this a 2 part discussion. You could no doubt make an easy dozen of episodes with this fellow from Iowa

The way that episode ended with that man in tears...... Knowing he was giving it his ALL before Biden and his circus came in and literally jumped ship out of Afghanistan like it was going down in the middle of the Mediterranean.. to see the former SECRETARY of DEFENSE choked up like that. Knowing that he's right.. that's exactly how so many families of lost soldiers and vets were and still are 100% feeling exactly the same way seeing that after the news hit and how it was portrayed the day that it was announced. Literally gave me goosebumps. So glad you got this guy on here.

The last 5 mins of this conversation really hit home for me. My brother was in Afghanistan in the mid to late 2000's and served with some amazing humans. Terrible choice made by people that didn't give a shit.

Thanks for a great video. Thank You both for your service. Served 33 years and had 6 deployments. I can't tell you how I can relate to the things you described like the predictable stress of repeated deployments and the PX's. I can remember Disney Road when it was still dirt, no white light, and there were no permanent structures. The next time I went there, there, thought I was on a base in the States, with thousand-pound air conditioners on roofs, paved streets, and sidewalks, I was like, what contracts are involved here in making all this crap. The SAD part is most of what we learned might be forgotten. Who is teaching the new leadership on what we learned the last 20-plus years, or will they just forget it, put it all on a shelf to be relearned again 10 years down the road.

Seeing special operators is amazing, but I'd love to see an episode( or 5) with a normal Grunt that had to spend 15 months in the country. Like the vast majority of war fighters had to. Plenty of epic battles (Wanat, The outpost, The Outlaws, ect...) I think that would be an amazing shift to get some of the regular Army, Marines, or whatever other branch of services perspective. Theres a lot of us grunts out here trust me, there's nothing "sexy" about it. Imagine these special operations stories but with less intimate shooting and less close combat stuff. Then add in lower tactical prowess, more frat house and shittier gear, people and leaders. Usually sof guys have the all the nice "luxury" living. they can bring almost anything they want overseas to a certain extent. us conventional dudes live in the shittier tents, shittier equipment and our needs/wants are the least priority. And for the conventional side, even Infantry, its 80% boring and 20% chaos. Some is worse (90% boring). The sof leaders find all the good missions with all the support and the scrap boring, shitty stuff, the scraps are left for infantry.
@celtics425
@celtics425 6 ай бұрын
@@mugshotmarley Right, the majority of us has "less than sexy" deployments. Hence I think it would be interesting to learn more about those that were in the battles I mentioned. While the Sof guys get the "sexier" missions and most often the proper support backing them. They have to be very scripted on what they can share, for obvious reasons! Where a regular Infantryman isn't held to strict policy. Hell get a few of the MOH recipients on the show. From the regular side. I think there is an opportunity to see a full picture of the GWOT.

That is the kind of leadership we sorely lack on so many levels of our Military and Government. Shawn, Just a little FYI here, but the concern you voiced in regards to the BS Media Coverage right there in the 41:20 area, You Sir are our Very Much Appreciated Alternative Option To Such, and WADR, You Are Appreciated Much, Much, MUCH MORE THAN YOU REALIZE! Also, with the general comprehension of the media being as it is, it is also realized that You cannot be expected to truthfully address each and every single issue without even the slightest of a shortcoming or non-coverage!! IOW's Please Just Keep On Keepin' On Just As You Have, As Everything Else Will Somehow Fall Into Place,As That Is All That Is Expected!! With All Due Respect and Sincere Appreciation, Anna_Nimmitty Native of Both Carolinas

Awesome, epic interview, Shawn! Thank you. I'm sure you know how cathartic this is to us veterans to hear this coming from one of the top brass. Watching how this cowardly administration pulled (retreated) out from Afghanistan, I knew everyone who was currently serving and every veteran alive was enraged at how mismanaged it was. As a Marine vet, I sure as hell was! It was to the point that to this day, I still believe they did it on purpose. I believe they did it to demoralize our fighting forces and to embarrass our nation. They sent a signal to our enemies that they were welcome to advance, and look where we're at now! But this is far from over, and we are far from defeated.

I was thinking the same thing on episode 1. Just get a gut feeling that there's something off about this dude. Could have something to do with the 20-minute @$$-kissing session he had in the beginning of episode 1. But IDK... something off about this fella.

Some time ago I wrote on 2 of my websites about Kayla Mueller. They were some of the most gut wrenching articles I ever wrote. One considered her charitable mission work and the fact she was allowed to send home a letter on one sheet of paper. She kind of knew she wasn't going home alive so she filled every bit of the paper on both sides with her testimony about her faith. Then I had a server crash and a mix up on backing up the site and everything including that article was lost. I reconstituted many articles I had but that one I left undone. I had learned some more about her ordeal and I couldn't stand to write about it.

They built an actual Lowe’s in Al Asad… a fucking Lowe’s. I know I got suckered in. Thank you for saying it. We got duped a loooong time ago. I’m in 18 years and staying to 21 for my family but I do it now to get the benefits for my kids. I never want them to join, I want to give them what they deserve from what I’ve done. Gone too long, time we’ll never get back.

Be it under Trump, Brandon, Miller, etc, I don't care, the way we left Afg was a failure we will never recoup from. We should have kept the air base and continued to support the Afg mil with air support, continued to have advisors to their mil as they transitioned to taking over all major ground ops, and kept some SOF there to deal with targets of opportunity. That was the obvious transition for draw-down by the US that would last as long as needed. Offering any exact time frames simply tells your enemy how long they have to plan to attack. As it all went to FUBAR under Brandon, ultimate failure is with him, and he should have been impeached over it. The End.

Shawn I’m the dude from glover that debated leaving my career but never pursued. I don’t regret it, but you were kicking ass. I will be honest, I wrap my brain every day. How could I better your business and you help me… I have always known you were good at what you did no matter what but you became an awesome interviewer, but you faced your first challenge despite with anybody says with this guy, he was friendly, but he was goofy and me and you don’t act that way and you handled yourself on a level most people cannot do it that impress me enough I’d work for you any day let me know I’m gonna do that can do 23 out of 24 hours a day but I want to be part of a family that’s the biggest part to me if you love me I might work 25 out of 24 hours a day
