I’m glad to hear! Definitely don’t get stressed about the first draft, it will almost always get better as you figure things out and see things on the page. I sort of treat the initial sketches like their just rough thumbnail sketches. And you can never do enough of those!

I've been struggling with having lost my creativity, and this video just reminded me that about 10 years ago I sat on a bus commuting in Seattle and sketched out a graphic song lyric a lot like the way you did this. Thank you, this is incredibly helpful! I've been a graphic designer for over a decade and just recently have become more interested in creating my own illustrations and taking the time to learn about Fresco. I've often found illustration intimidating and had the (false) impression that you had to get it right the first time... Which I now realize is a ridiculous belief, but it's so reassuring to actually see the process like this as proof that it's normal to start out with a very rough sketch and then to refine in many little steps, to ultimately end up with something incredible. I'm so grateful I found your channel!
@chris-piascik
@chris-piascik Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Christine, that's really nice to hear! You definitely don't have to get it right the first time. In fact, when I went back to school to get my MFA in illustration (for no real reason + long story) one thing I did take from it was an exercise we did where we had to make 200 thumbnail sketches for the same illustration to get us out of our own head and push past the obvious idea or composition, etc. That's a little different than this, but making lots of rough sketches isn't only OK, I'd say it's a mistake to just go right in and try to make it great first try. The sketching process always helps me see things that I couldn't have otherwise.

I was thinking when I used to use Flash, years (maybe decades) ago and there was this function where you could manipulate an object into any shape by just moving your mouse near the edge of the object and hey presto, whatever custom shape you wanted. Maybe it's available in Adobe Animate, I've never really used that. Anyway, my 'point' being, I wish Fresco had that functionality.

Hi, for print on demand stuff I use printify. The reason I like them is that you can choose your vendors for different products. I just look through reviews to make sure the company I am picking has solid ratings. I also have recently started selling shirts through TeePublic and I’ve been happy with the results so far. But that’s different than Printify where I am using them for production of certain items I sell through my own shop.

Hey quick question. I'm new to illustrating and am considering getting Adobe fresco but I already have a lot of paintings on procreate. I'm trying to teach myself to illustrate my own children's book. So my question is do you think that I need to redo my procreate paintings in Adobe fresco or should my images in procreate be able to be scaled at least large enough for a children's book? I painted them on the biggest canvas size available which I'm sure is overkill but I also heard that if you tilt your procreate image at all that it may make it print pixilated. I'm using watercolor brushes on procreate so ideally I would like to skip vecorizing the images but I don't want to regret it later on.
@chris-piascik
@chris-piascik Жыл бұрын
If you were worked at a large enough size in procreate there would be no reason to redo them. They’d just need to be at least 300dpi at print size. So if it’s going to print 10” wide you’re file would need to be at least 3000pixels wide (10” x 300dpi). You don’t need your artwork to be vector unless you need it to scale infinitely. Hope that helps!

Thanks! That's great to hear. In terms of Canvas size it depends on how big I'm going to print it. That said, I generally work around 5000 pixels wide-which gives me some flexibility-but might be a bit overkill if it's not going to be printed.

@chris-piascik
@chris-piascik Жыл бұрын
Even if I'm not planning on printing something I still like to work in a pretty high resolution in order to maintain good brush control, otherwise there won't be enough pixels to create some detail. I find working in the 4000 - 6000 pixel wide range is good for me. That's still translates to a healthy print size if I decide to print something (13ish to 20" wide). If I know I'm going to print something I'll set my artboard to those physical dimensions and set it to at least 300dpi, but if that ends up translating to lower than 4000pixels wide I'll up the DPI until I get there to improve the drawing experience. For example if I was doing a spot illustration for an editorial assignment and it was only 4x6", I'd only get 700 x 900 pixels to work with-so I'd likely triple or more the DPI and then downsize it to 300dpi when I sent it to the client. Hope that helps!
