Thank you for pointing out what you did at the end. You said exactly what I’ve been thinking but didn’t know how to word it. I started playing magic after kaladesh and before ahmonket. Magic used to be a mysterious game where you would do everything to be absorbed by what content was put out. And damn people were into it. Now I am consistently 3/4 sets behind and just get to it when I can. There is SO MUCH PRODUCT that, just like the 1 of 1, I don’t care cause I can never consume it all. If I can show up to a draft and pull a cool card, that’s a win to me now. Wizards though, if they wanna keep people seriously engaged, need to slow product WAY down

Apparently Hasbo/WotC did reply that they well received community message about "product overload fatigue" and will take actions to reduce the release frequency. Should we belive them, this I don't know.. But I share this feeling too, imagine, I'm 40 I started magic in 1995, that was really really different lol, I mostly play modern and what I liked is that is was a NON ROTATING format, now it is not anymore, and I just cannot keep track of all the new singles to include in my decks. I still love the game in itself and WotC did create really exciting new cards and mechanics, but Modern Horizon was really too much, very smart from Hasbro to sell more packs to modern player base from a business standpoint

I think I'm just going to go back and start collecting previous sets. Being a returning player that last collected during Onslaught, until Kamigawa Neon Dynasty last year - I am absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of product they're laying out now. It's wild. I really think that Kaladesh is one of the most beautiful and artistic sets in existence, so I'm actually more excited about getting to collect that. (If you look at the set as a whole, it has this fluid, almost Art Nouveau style to the entire set.) I just think as a new, inexperienced and more importantly: Not Wealthy collector, I'm going to have more fun taking that route. Sure, I do like some of the recent sets, but it's obviously becoming a sea for whales. What about us that just wanna be a fish and have fun, huh? The Prof. makes a good point here - because the correct action in opposition to this onslaught of releases is just to sit back and say, "No bother." Find a way to enjoy the game at your level of financial ability and not get wrapped up in the fervor, or the latest rhetoric of MTG. Reminds me very much of Genshin Impact. I don't invest a lot of money into it, but it is nonetheless a very fun game for me. But they make some things so expensive to get that I am just perturbed that people are spending literally thousands of dollars on it. Saw an account with an investment of $150,000 and was just speechless afterwards.

also if a card is worth more than like 50 bucks you should always always ship with signature verification instead of just tracking. it cost just a few bucks more but you have a signature which is unrefutable proof someone received that package at that address

As time progressed I noticed a huge change in magic to where I joined a finance page about this and watch as cards go from $1 to $30 in about a week or so. I don’t partake in it but what I do, do is instead of buying boxes lately i’ve been pushing for singles mostly now. Proxies are even starting to become ok to me because of the prices are getting far too high to buy several boxes just to have the cards and the fun of opening packs anymore. We had a friend who wanted a $3 card and was gonna buy packs until she got it and I outright said “just buy it on tcgplayer at this point, you’re not gonna hit any of the high dollar cards in this set while trying to get the $3 card.” Proxies are seen in competitive edh at my lgs and I was a huge stickler of “dont play the card if you dont own it” but as more and more do proxies i’m starting to become ok with it. Love magic but really starting to hate the financial strain its becoming on people who play it.

The 1/1 one ring is wizards testing to see how close you can get to the literal definition of gambling, while hiding behind a game that surrounds it.

Anyone else remembering the whole WotC saying 'buy what you like' thing? I always thought that made sense, so I'm glad to se the Prof's come round to realize it's okay to not love everything Magic. Hoping more people can get on board with this and focus on the parts that excite them rather than the things that they'd be better of ignoring.

I've been struggling with this feelings for awhile.. it's nice to see someone "in the thick of it" struggling too, and coming to the conclusion that they only have to interact with what they like. What makes it frustrating for me is if I'm not wanting to deal with something, and someone else does, where is that middle ground? I don't want to yuck their yum, but I also don't want to be yucked on.

So once upon a time, there was someone who wanted to stir up chaos. So they released four wild hogs into a local Wal-Mart. To make it more chaotic, they painted the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 5 on them beforehand. After all four were found, the store was still in a panic because they could never find hog #4. That's how I feel about the 1/1 One Ring. I have apathy for it and, as a result, will only casually watch whatever race for someone to get it when the card very likely never turn up, if it will actually exist in packs in the first place.

*insert citzen kane clap gif here* THANK YOU for your candor on the One Ring situation. It's refreshing to hear a voice with no punches pulled, and for exposing how the predation of people this card will have. Couldn't agree more how such a ridiculous serialized card will never surface, or if it does will just go to the highest bidder. They're toying with fire now, because this enters the territory of illegal gambling marketed to children. They should at the very least need to battle a lawsuit, even if to win it would cost them money. And that's what hurts them most: losing money.

@NeutralGuyDoubleZero Жыл бұрын
How is it fun flavour wise when that flavour means you don't get to play with it? It's very indicative of WOTCs bigger issues ie, constantly making products that aren't for the average player, general exclusion for newer players so they can keep prices up, etc.
@blemski Жыл бұрын
@@NeutralGuyDoubleZero because they are still printing the non serialized version at regular rates. People will still get to play this card, just the 1 of 1 serialized card will end in someone's collection on a shelf somewhere. As far as issues with wizards this one is at the bottom for me too.
@NeutralGuyDoubleZero Жыл бұрын
@@blemski In that case it's just incredibly lame. Its not any kind of flavor if there are in fact many others ones you can play. A petty gimmick to try and encourage collectors to flock in and buy up more packs and drive prices up. *Also* one of WOTCs bigger issues.
