Chris Rea - Daytona (Live)

I can't believe what I've just heard... These 7 minutes changed so much in me... I was 16 in 1991and I was only listening to radio pop music, until there was a television commercial for "The road To Hell". They only played a few seconds of it, but still I got it and that was the day I learned about good, handmade, serious music. I nagged on my parents cause I wanted to see the concert from CR in Frankfurt. I hand never seen a concert before, and didn't even have an idea where the band would be playing in a concert hall. I assumed they were playing in the center :-) All those impressions I got these days summed up in this Live Version from Daytona. It was song number 6 or 7 or so, and I was so fascinated, what a song from a vinyl record could come up with when being played live with all those instrumentshitting in, background singers, horns, organs, guitars, CR's unique voice... I still remember the last ~30 seconds from "Daytona" that day. Unbelievable emotions, unbelievable feelings, unbelievable sound, volume, everything. From this moment on, music became the most important part in my life. I bought blues records, I started to play music myself and I inhalated every chris Rea song he ever made. Having found this live version and writing this with wet eyes, I think of my red stratocaster I bought because CR's music and my efforts, to somehow be able to play along to such epic music that means so much to me. Today I hate television, but when I think back, all that had started with a TV commercial for a record. So after all. I'm gratefull I watched TV on that night :-) May CR be among us forever.
