Did David go to Horace Mann on scholarship? Graduating with no money in your account doesn’t mean no family safety net (and that is fine, it is ideal). Also saying people like agents take advantage and oh well is this worst Laissez-faire attitude that conveniently ignores how the government does get involved for example to help power landlords over tenants. You don’t have to just accept people will exploit, there are things that can be done to help protect and prevent some of it, of course not all.
