I have been a devoted fan of Smither for 50 years. His prose has seen me through Montana Blizzards while hitch hiking west and melodious moon lit summer eve's down east. His lyrics haver driven my down as a patron of my pity parties and made my heart sing at a full Sierra moon rise. I can't say enough about Chris' music to illuminate how much he has influenced my most melancholy and inspiring moments of my life over the past century ;)

A great drummer is always just a tiny bit better than no drummer at all! Chris Smither is mind-blowingly deep without any of the pretension! WOW

So beautifully rendered and the poetic depth of lyric is exquisite and true! There are times for metaphors and cryptic phrases but not in serious intimacy for that requires an integrity that melts the shadows of uncertainty.

It makes me stew that I'm just missing him playing at the Chicky-wa-wah in New Orleans, in early July. Found a ticket place online while I was looking for tab for this. It's a crying shame.

SAW HIM AT SEATTLE'S BUMBERSHOOT FESTIVAL IN THE '90'S..THERE WERE MANY ACOUSTIC ACTS. WE STOPPED IN THE THEN--"KEY ARENA," ARE OF SEATTLE CENTER SITE. STOPPED DEAD IN OUR TRACKS. SAT DOWN AND LISTENED. WOW! THREE YEARS LATER, HE WAS BACK, AND I BORROWED THE "NEXT UP," LAMINATED SMITHER ANNOUNCEMENT CARD! MEMORABILIA!!

I just heard him on West Coast Live. He played this by himself. I would love to see a video of that performance (or another of this song, by himself). I haven't been able to find one, though.

Here is a golden God, and who knows that. You people, that's who. He's like The Replacements, one of those bands you selfishly keep to yourself, until you let someone in, because you need to find someone, not just anyone, someone who can see it, HEAR it. This guy. If you are one of those people who found this guy, and have been selfish, don't be. Find that person, and share it with (her, probably.)

Dont get me wrong here, I really really enjoy ANYTHING that Chris Smither does. This song is GREAT. I just think the drummer and the second guitar need to go. The simple purity of Chris Smither is all thats required to say it all. realize hes gettin up there in years and could prolly use a little break now and then but no way his sound needs two guitars.

krejdloc You might want to take a listen to "I Told You So" from this same set - you might change your mind about the auxiliary musicians.

Dreamwell I just listened to that. I guess I just like old time solo singin and Travis Pickin. To borrow a phrase I heard somewhere " It flipped my switches but just didn't turn me on"

krejdloc Chris played this yesterday solo and I must admit, it was far more captivating solo.. although this is a great rendition..

Yes. They add a little something, but it can be touched. Chris sounds great all by himself. As a testimony to Smither's greatness, the guitar play is mouthing the words, all the way through.

I agree...that's because someone else ..I.e...the producer ..think they know how the song should sound when all along Chris had the answer
