Listening to you Phil , it's hard to believe that this record is 50 years old and Mr Squire has passed. He has left us some transformation music. I was 17 , now I am 66 . My health has not been great but I look back on these box sets and reissues from back in the day and I am so thankful that I grew up in this particular time , the 60s and the 70s , and I was witness to the marvellous music of that time. It sound so fresh, and those " funky" elements of Lucky Tonight just give it a touch of the zeitgeist of that time. Nostagia as part of my therapy . Hearing this and knowing that this is where my heart lies. Thank you Phil.

Thank you for sharing this classic album by Chris Squire. I bought "Fish Out of Water " when it was first released back in 1975. It is one of my favorite albums of the Yes Solo Collections that each member released after the "Relayer " album. I was fortunate to purchase this classic when Chris re-released this CD on his Ghost Record Label. Chris Squire, in my eyes, is simply the best bass guitar player ever. I remember listening to " The Fish" from Yessongs back in 1973, and I couldn't believe my ears. How could a bass guitar sound like electric guitar? Chris Squire made it happen. Again, thank you for sharing this treasure piece of music. 👍

I purchased this album in 1975 (?) and it has always been one of my favourite albums. Fish Out of Water and Olias of Sunhillow , those two albums were the the pinnacle to me. I have this boxset and the double cd of Olias containing the wonderful blu ray. Great , great album (s) Good one Phil

Hi Phil, I have this box Set. It really is excellent. Chris Squire was the heart and soul of Yes, as week as an excellent musician. The band are just not the same without him.

What a heartwarming video Phil, thank you. Chris Squire is very special to me, he awoke me to a very special, unique style of bass playing in the BEST live band I have ever seen, the wonderful YES! His influence even went as far as me buying a blue 4001 Rickenbacker bass in 1978, my pride and joy. Sadly my skill on the instrument in my old band didn’t stretch to Mr Squire’s expertise but my love of bass playing is in huge part thanks to Chris Squire. I won’t be buying the box set (shame, I hear you cry) because I already have the Esoteric double cd from 2018 (wouldn’t want the vinyl or dvd anyway) I bought the original album in 1975 which I still own. To be honest, Olias Of Sunhillow was and still is my favourite Yes solo album but thanks to your video, Phil, I shall play it again and bask in the sadly missed man’s splendour.

In the ‘90s when I still had a car with a cassette player, I had lots of homemade tapes I used to switch in and out of the car. But the only cassette that never left my glove box had Olias of Sunhillow on one side and Fish Out of Water on the other. I still love both wholeheartedly. I’ve been giving Fish Out of Water a rest lately, because after probably more than 100 listens I was finally starting to tire of it. But now you’re make me want to check out that remix.

I got this box set when it came out. Never heard it back in the day, only that it was considered the best of the Yes solo litter. Now I understand what it was my mates were raving so lyrically about. Today I rank this as the best, followed by Olias of Sunhillow. Also, both have stunning cover artwork. Heartfelt review, thanks.

I have that edition on CD. Personally, I consider this to be the best ever Yes related solo album. And with Buford and Moraz in the line-up, you can’t go wrong!

Another excellent review, Phil. Incidentally in case you’re interested, Esoteric also released a standalone blu-ray containing both audio and video content (mirroring that of the box), which is sublime.

I bought the album on its original release and have always loved it. I also think it was the best out of the solo albums that the others put out as well around the same time. I also bought this box set on its release and thought it was overpriced, it was the surround mix that enticed me to buy it in the first place. Jakszyk's mix is pretty good and he also put in things that he found had been left off the album's original mix. However, regarding the 5.1 mix, it's in Dolby Digital which is not the best format especially compared to DTS. When they finally put out the standalone edition on Blu Ray I brought that and sold the box set.

Great review Phil, the original album was never off my turntable back in the day. It was really interesting having an album with the Bass as the main lead instrument and Chris' voice was excellent (he could easily have fronted a band). Forgive me for one correction though, there is some electric guitar on Silenty Falling (not very much, I know); a twelve string Rickenbaker played by Chris I believe. Just to add that I love all the Yes solo albums (even Steve Howe's Beginnings). Alan Whites effort Ramshackled in particular, went under the radar a bit and is the least Yes like, but is well worth a listen for it's eclectic mix of styles.

Brilliant music, Yes are my favourite band so I've had Chris's album for years plus the box set of course. He was working on a follow up for years and I wonder what stage it reached and if anything might see the light of day in the future

Good stuff Phil. I have always felt that this album is so much more than just a side project by a member of YES. It works incredibly well on its own terms. Have the vinyl and the 2 CD package. The musicianship by all concerned is really something. Chris certainly created something unique here. Another solo album by a YES alumni from around the same is 'Out in the Sun' by Patrick Moraz and is well worth checking out.

This is a fantastic looking release! I simply love the album, one of the biggest hits in terms of Yes' solo works (along with the early Wakeman) - this looks like it has tons of reasons to double-dip for those who might think they're simply happy with the original

Hey Phil, found my journey seems to have echoed yours in the 70s. At school circa 73/74 you were either chart/rock or prog - 73 I was still like a lot in the UK following T.Rex but Burn was my epiphany. Apart from Brain Salad I took little notice of prog untill Rush/Hemispheres so then checked out Going For The One then onto this class album from Chris. Unfortunately I can’t afford this box set so will stick my original vinyl… great and moving review tho mate 👍. And can you believe that Burn is 50 on Wednesday 😮

I have always liked the way you do your reviews Phil. Respectful to the artist and empathic for peoples circumstances. I got this album last year in the 2CD format and enjoy it a lot. I do prefer the remix, much like yourself. And again, Nick Yousoufian is a generous and kind supporter.

Hello Phil. I'm a newby to your KZbin posts. Just watched your Squire/Hackett review and I knew nothing about this. So I found the album and played over half, then I went back to your review and found your thoughts on several songs, sounding exactly as I'd have felt. I'm here because I really love this, have done for decades. I'm with you on your favourite - Silently Falling. What a fantastic track. Sadly, I couldn't say the same about Safe (The Canon Song). I felt that it went on too long. I really wished that he could have faded several minutes earlier and faded in The Fish. I feel it may have brought a better climax to end the album, possibly giving more meaning to the album title. Thank you for both of these Chris Squire reviews. Very useful, easy to follow and very accurate (IMHO). I'll be listening to your reviews more often. Now you are joining Sea of Tranquility and Niamh the Prog Nerd. Thoroughly enjoyed this 👌

Easily the best Yes solo album for me even over some stellar Wakeman albums. Thinking about it it's a lot better than a good portion of actual Yes albums. My all time fav bass player cracking harmony vocals and a big presence.

Thanks for the video, Phil. I have a minty original pressing on vinyl, and I did purchase the new two CD set but now I just might go buy the remastered vinyl as well. I'm assuming the vinyl is the original stereo mix re-mastered, is that correct?
