Waddle was a wicked player. His skillful dribbling is reminiscent of Zidane, as if Zidane grew up seeing Waddle play in France, very similar style. I also think he is underrated, in England we always hear about Gazza, but Waddle should also get his respek. I remember being 13 years old, Italia '90, England semi final against Germany. Waddle had that shot from about 20 yards out. Shame about the penalty miss, it must have been nerves as "Waddle belted the kick over the bar" as John Motson said. I am just reflecting the fact that in all my years, spanning 4 decades, I have never ever seen England beat Germany in a major tournament. Penalty shoot-outs in Italia '90 (which I think was the best England squad I have seen with my eyes: Linekar, Platt, Barnes, Beardsley, Gazza, Waddle); Euro .96 and then in 2010 when they lost 4-1 and got hammered. I just hope Southgate goes all out in attack while still having a solid 5 at the back, as Neville has theorised, then they may be in for a chance at home with this new young, fresh and talented team. It would be good if Saka, Grealish and Sterling start behind Kane. They would run rings around this current German defence; then later sub them for Sancho, Bellingham and Foden after 60 minutes. You cannot score one and then expect to hold that against the Germans, they mostly seem to find a way. Hence, they have to go for the win and all-out attack.
