People assume printing is the final arbiter of image quality and to some extent it is true. Although whenever anyone ever pontificates about how big you can print from any sensor size, I tell them to go see a print of any Don McCullin black and white 35mm film frame. Put your nose to it and it is a smudge. Step back 3or 4 foot and it is sublime in its character and detail. Any m43rds camera frame could be blown up and put on a poster. Distance of viewer is the most important factor, imho.

Good video and some nice shots, I do think the kit lens gets a bad wrap sometimes, I have other lenses but I still rate my 14-42 and 40-150, they are work horse lenses for me. I love taking snaps of things involving running water like waterfalls, so much potential for wide and zoomed in shots picking out details. The last time I was at a lock I really liked my wider pics, but the closer in shots were my favourites.

Hi Chris. At 7.56, just as you walk out from under the bridge, there’s a memorial stone on your left to, I seem to remember, a young lad who fell into the beck and drowned. Poignant.

You are right - any relationship between the cost of the lens and the "quality" of the image is a myth. However, be aware that if you push a cheaper lens to work at its extremes then contrast and sharpness WILL take a hit. I've got the Olympus 14-150 "plastic fantastic" lens - a lovely pit of kit for the price - but last year used it at the 150mm end to try and capture storm waves in the sea. Even shot RAW all the images were soft, and contrast was a real pain to try and recover. For this outing I should have used my 40-150 f/2.8 PRO because that would have given me much quicker AF and also superior sharpness. That waterfall image captured in the autumn was an absolute belter by the way! Very nice indeed.

Great photos Chris the GX80 is definitely a good camera. It just shows once again you don't need the latest and greatest from the camera manufacturers marketing departments 😅

I had the Lumix 14-42mm kit lens with my first MFT camera the G7. I always liked the IQ for city and landscapes it was sharp across the frame. I buy lenses that interest me I don't look at sharpness or MTF charts any more. I picked up a Samsung NX500 for fun APSC BSI 28MP sensor but honestly I prefer the IQ from the 16MP Lumix GX80 or the Ricoh GXR cameras some of which are only 12MP. High resolution really is a niche solution for commercial photographers, despite the fact that a lot of large YT channels try to convince us that 20-24MP is dated

I was thinking about the image quality of the Olympus 14-42 kit lens that came with em10 and I was gonna watch your video again when you borrowed David’s and opened up KZbin and there you were with the lumix 14-42 👍🏻 Is it the same lens and is it any good for landscape or do I have to get a prime? Thanks for your videos, you’re absolutely one of my go to channels!
