Considering the track "Your gonna need a bigger ukulele" exists, this means that commando shreds the regular sized ones out of existance for this song, and he needs bigger ones to replace them. How much longer?"_ _"Unsure. I don't know how long it was between deaths."_ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The creature stood on the edge of the road, a series of horizontal white lines before it. No, him, it reminded itself. Himself. It'd been a long while since he had needed a term to refer to himself. Petrichor had stripped that from him, the endless massacre, the bodies piled up, sparking husks of destroyed machines that he himself had battered and broken and- He shook his head, antlers swaying and the phantom arm mounted at his shoulder clenching its violet knife. A mantle of pieces and devices were stuck to him, loosely moving about even though he knew they would not detach. Two pedestrians stood beside him, nervously eyeing him. They were human. Partially modified. One had a prosthetic, one had glasses. Did glasses count as modifications? No, they were augments, he supposed. A temporary addition. He looked at them, the yellow dome of his head twisting atop his narrow shoulders, red lenses glittering. Without a word, they turned as one and started walking the other direction, crossing the road in a different place. Now that they were gone, he looked forward and down. Forty feet of road in front of him. A short distance. Such a short distance. Just one step forward, followed by another, and another, slowly moving over the crosswalk until he was on the other side of the street. An easy thing to do. All he had to do was take the first step, and then the second. The road wasn't blocked off. Hovercars and trams and buses drove past, some pausing for a moment as their drivers stared wide-eyed at the vaguely humanoid monstrosity standing in front of the crosswalk where it'd been placed by government officials trying to help. Where he'd been placed, he reminded himself. It was positive to attach humanity to himself. Although there were a few people who told him was alright to be an it. Pronouns and whatnot. He wasn't sure identifying as a weapon was healthy for him right now. A light turned yellow, and then red. Another light turned green. The crosswalk was open. Commando took a deep breath, the goat leg replacing his own twitching, the red whip at his hip swaying in a wind that wasn't there. One step. Just one step. He lifted his leg, and took one step. His foot landed in the next state over. Dammit.

Chris, I want you to know that this song is the perfect length and has the optimal mood for the microwave cooking of a P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Pork Shoyu Ramen. At 4 minutes, 51 seconds, it fits the total time of 3 minutes of heating and 1 minute and 30 seconds of heating with a short stirring period between the two. The anticipation at the beginning of the song, with quiet piano is reminiscent of your younger self enjoying cheap top ramen from the bag. The guitar explosion is the middle of the cooking- the ramen would be edible now, it is great and smells like food. But you can do better. So you stir it and put it back in for another amount of time, eager to see it better than before. By the time it is done with its second round in the microwave, the triumphant guitar is fading away, leaving you satisfied and ready to eat your meal. A truly inspired piece. P.S. the ramen was fine. Better than other microwave meal options, but if it’s not on sale it’s really overpriced so try this method at your own risk. Overall rating: tasted like salt, but overall fine dining

It sat, gasping in the cargo hold for air, wheezing for one last spoken word, and he watched carefully as it all fell slowly to the ground, finally silent. He enjoyed being a thief, but now came the realization that he could not steal lives and array them in a museum. Huntress ..and so she left, her soul still remaining on the planet. She had hunted the best. She had won. Why was it only empty inside? She tried to gasp in horror, staring at guilt. But it never came, so she sat and waited on the floor. And then came the voices. Engineer ..and so he left, more steel and circuit than man. He stared at the motors around him- or was that him? He stared at the ship around him, and finally felt separated. The cargo hold was in pain... Miner ..and so he left, adrenaline still rushing through his veins. Like fire beating down on a door, he felt his arms slowly detach, his bloodied weapons fall to the ground, replaced by sheer maniacal laughter. Soon came the lust for blood again. Sniper ..and so they left, the sound still ringing in deaf ears. "I wish you could stay," they tried to hack out, but it was useless. So they held each other, and the Sniper slowly shut off the spotter. Finally, tears fell from blind eyes. HAN-D ..and so it left, servos pulsing with new life. Maybe it was the parasite, or maybe the imp, but maybe deep inside the metal lie a simple janitor bot, riding a desecrated ship home. Where was home? Where was home now? And it answered its own question. Mercenary ..and so he left, never to become human again. He stared out of the window, trying to find interest in passing stars. Quickly he swung his sword and the feelings were gone. All he had left was the blade. They will be coming soon. They will be coming soon to rescue him, but all he had left was the blade. Acrid ..and so it left, with a new hunger: to be left alone. Swallowing the putrid blood, it looked back at what was once a god, now writhing in a pool of acid, dying to disease. The hunger was not worth sating, so it went where there is nothing.

Con lentitud ponderosa means with powerful slowness. Describing the EXTREMELY LONG TIME IT TOOK TO DEVELOP THIS GAME! Actually though, it’s a reference to this: “ I thought of a world without memory, without time; I considered the possibility of a language that ignored nouns, a language of impersonal verbs and indeclinable epithets. This is how the days died and the years died, but something similar to happiness happened one morning. It rained, with powerful slowness. ” - quote from Jorge Luis Borges, Argentine poet and short story writer. Translated from Spanish to English
@droher13444 жыл бұрын
The best part about that poem is, that "it rained, with powerful slowness" has all of those things that he imagined in that language. "It rained"= a personal verv, "powerful" = a declinable epithet, as slowness is usually attributed the adjective of "weak" (its epithet) and "slowness"= noun. Alluring to the absurdity that is a language that is too dry and devoid of meaning

I feel that the developers of Risk of Rain 2 receive so much more unfair criticism than others receive for their games, and for seemingly no reason. They are creating almost flawless gameplay so good you'll casually play for hours. They are creating lore and telling stories that give you chills. They are writing music that makes you cry. They are 3 people, and they may have made a few small mistakes, which were then addressed or fixed within two days of 1.0 release.

Blows my mind how entitled some people are. I can understand with a massive triple A company that doesn't fix a bug for months. But 3 people working on this game and keeping it to such a quality and standard meeting every goal they set for themselves you dont see that much at all anywhere.

@Decorous Ice RoR2 endings have a pretty large emphasis on how your player characters change for the worse by the end of their journey, so I always envisioned it as them not really caring about the metaphorical blood on their hands (since it's that of the various creatures they face), until they realize that there's little separation between said creatures _and themselves._ Thus, the blood they see on their hands is very similar to their own.

When Risk of Rain 2 was announced, I was holding my breath for Coalescence's eventual remaster. Few years later - today, 1.0 dropped and with it, came this song. I'd made it to the Stage 6. Empty, grey stones of old welcoming me, impossible looking structures guiding me to the final boss. I'd lost for I lacked mobility on my Artificer build, but the long trek up to boss' lair - when I had the initial note being played over and over in electronic piano with accompanying piano chords, that tease... I knew what was coming, but I was NOT ready for the song to be this good. Goddamn. I'm not even upset that I lost to the boss, I just want to get to the stage again so I can hear this very tune, the build up of the pianos > acoustic > electric with drums... This isn't just music. It sets the tone and accompanies you till your eventual defeat or victory. 7 years it had been, and my expectation has been met with something even superior and grander. Thank you for doing this song a justice and then some, because I reckon I'll never stop listening to this song. And also for uploading the song along with the game's launch!

There is... just such emotion here. Not just in the song but in the song's context for me and my best friend. 7 years. It's been 7 years, nearly a third of my life. I remember in computer class when someone in my class was passing around a flash drive like a sweet doobie and when it came around to me I had a look. It had Risk of Rain on it, of course, and I had seen some of my friends play this and get the absolute shit kicked out of them. I was next in line for the assbeating. I would procrastinate and play a few rounds on the schools laptop during class... i was terrible at the game but I REVELLED in the challenge. Back then, it was like I had blinders on, the world was smaller, less complicated.... then, so much changed in what seemed like such a short time. Girlfriend to wife, job to job, apartment to house... daughter. And after all this time, hearing this song... when I and my friend finally, FINALLY made it to this stage in ROR2, we just stopped, holding our breath, hoping like hell we knew what was coming. The hype was palpable. And when that DROP kicked, I was HURLED back in time, all the layers of complexity I had gathered in those years were ripped away, and suddenly I was there again, in that small classroom, discovering this amazing, unique gem of a game for the first time. At that point, it wasn't about winning or losing. It was about something so much more powerful than the celebration of victory or the sting of defeat. It was the climb. All those twists and turns, the risks we all took since then, and the rain of rewards we had reaped for daring to try. Thank you, you mad genius, for being a part of my life. It's been one hell of a journey so far. I'm popping the teleporter now. See you in the next stage.

That's it, you've forced my hand Chris. I'm learning guitar to specifically play this song aggressively at my friends. Look at what you have done. Unironically this has got to be one of my favorite tracks in gaming history, and i actually did learn this song on guitar lol. I would've never thought a music box would hit so different with metal guitars involved. The way you mix all the different instuments so seamlessly to which all of them aren't just background noise and each one gets the spotlight is absolutely marvelous and incredible. Your motif work is as well done as a steak from a 5 star restaurant. The bass work in The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky is very subtle and very crispy like KFC. The amount of emotion and feeling in every song is just insanity, and the fact that you keep well in touch with your community is just a cherry on top. all of your songs are great and fit the RoR2 aesthetic so well and everything is still good to listen to on its own if not better. Keep creating and keep being rad as fuck cuz holy shit this game wouldn't be the same without you. Thank you.

I really like how …con lentitud poderosa and Coalescence are basically yin and yang. They are presenting the same thing and yet they are different. Coalescence - Providence's theme, being full of life and wanting for help, just like Providence is. …con lentitud poderosa - His brother's, Mithrix, theme. It starts slow for you to gather thoughts, then bursting with everything that has happened, that you gained over the time. And then you start creating with everything you got, until you finish the creation. Mithrix is that creator. and when he finished his creation then, the music stopped. Mithrix is complete opposite of Providence, yet they are still brothers. And these themes really show that. Truly a work of art.

What does it mean to be 'Coalesence 2'? It could be a song that achieves the scale, intensity, and grandeur of Coalesence. For me, you achieved that all the way back when the game first went into Early Access, with 'Into the Doldrums'. It could also be a song that is simply 'as good' (airquotes, as this is all subjective) as Coalesence. For me, you not only achieved that with 'Into the Doldrums', but 'The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky' and 'The Rain Previously Known as Purple'. It could be a 'sequel' (a callback? something inspired by?) to Coalesence; and for some we have '... con lentitud poderosa'. But-- it also achieves being as fantastic as the original, and it surpasses that sense of scale and greatness. '...con lentitud poderosa' is more than a callback, and more than a sequel. It feels like a parallel; in a realm where Coalesence stood as the perfect finale to Risk of Rain (2013), '...con lentitud poderosa' does the same for Risk of Rain 2 (2020). While this feeling might be hard to properly describe, I suppose the best way to phrase it is that '...con lentitud poderosa' has purpose and soul-- instead of being just something that says "hey, remember this?" Thanks, Chris, for more than just the music. The journey, the experiences, the memories, and now the excitement for whatever you have in store for the future.

This has got to be Video Game Theme of the year, if there’s an award for that. I played thru RoR2 for the first time yesterday and when I heard the softer version of this play right before the end credits, I legitimately almost cried. The music, combined with the visuals and the little concluding message as the game fades to black, made for one of the most memorable endings on any game I’ve played. The theme is just perfect. It’s so bittersweet and forlorn and matches the bleak visuals and loneliness of the place. The theme tells Mithrix’s story; that he was a powerful and overzealous being that was betrayed and abandoned by his brother. It really makes me feel remorse for killing him and makes me wish there was another way. I could go on and on, but you killed the music, man. Like its so rare for a game (a run&gun shooter, no less) to get me so emotional and introspective. The music was the number one contributor to the immersion and storytelling. I hope you go on and keep creating masterpieces like this.

Just wanted to let you know Chris that you've inspired me to truly follow my passion, music production, through all 3 of your amazing soundtracks you've done for hopoo. I can't thank you enough for all the comfort your music has given me throughout the hardest times in my life. You're an absolute legend and I'm never going to stop listen to your music.

Me and my friends were playing the game, and wandered to the Primordial Teleporter- knowing the first game, we thought it'd be cool to go to the moon, and so, we did. Once we reached the Moon, the music kicked in. We were all silent, marching on through the map, however, about half way through our march, the drop hit, and each one of us started praising the song-- it was brilliant, the feeling of inspiration and regret all hit, and we all were full of determination. We knew by now it was time... time to finally beat the game. The music had helped this whole area amazingly, without it, the game wouldn't be the same. Thank you so much Chris-- this music actually helps me with my writing majorly-- something about it is so... inspiring.

@rustykerman16784 жыл бұрын
YES. I was thinking the exact same thing. Like... Im imagining someone like the G-man from halflife, The kinda character that is controlling everything from behind the scenes. They reveal themselves and explain that things have gotten out of hand and they are nolonger in control. They explain that the world is going to end and they regret not being able to fix things. They leave, then when the guitar hits the earth starts shaking, everything is falling apart, and the last few humans escape into earth orbit, with nowhere to go and the burning earth below them, they wait. Hoping

You dont even need to know the lore. You can just feel the grief, rage and sorrow all building up into this one track. All the tragedy of the story of Risk of Rain coming to a head here. It's a beautiful example of raw emotion through sound.

@@AstronautDown That's funny to me because the soundtrack for the first game left me with surprise that it was better than the gameplay, and I went into the second game with the same expectation, and yet it was still exceeded. And I really don't think that's any kind of coincidence the more I think about it...

Major respect, Chris. Your soundtrack is easily one of the best I've heard in gaming. It's possibly one of the most immersive soundtracks I've listened to, and even outside of the game, it's just brilliant. It must've been a hard task trying to make homages to the first game's soundtrack in ways like this, but you do it masterfully. It's genuinely brilliant.

I just entered Commencement 1 hour ago without even knowing that I was going to appear there, it was pure luck. (I'm new to the game.) The large empty halls at the beginning, coupled with the music, gave me chills and I felt terror, because such peace wasn't something I was used to in my 13 hours of gameplay so far. I died just before I managed to land the killing blow on the boss, but god damn, this place makes me want to cry. I never felt so calm, yet so lonely.
@Brass319 Жыл бұрын
I didn't reach commencement until over 40 hours into the game because every time I even got to stage 5 I immediately went to go make more progress on my backlog of artifact codes I had spotted while flying around as acrid since he was my main at the time. When someone told me that taking the normal teleporter in that stage sends you somewhere special, I figured I could put off the rest of the list for a bit. Mithrix never stood a chance since I was still playing on drizzle.

After the teleporter was done charging I was filled with excitement, what could be waiting for me on the other side? As I touched down the first thing that struck me was the room I was in; immense and still, so, so very still. Illuminated by the eerie flames that reflected on the water that had flooded the place I noticed a ramp, a way out. As I made my way up a faint melody played in my mind, familiar but amiss, a welcomed change given the previous emptiness I had found myself in. Light! I could see the white on the other side! I could see this world opening itself to me! And as I approached I saw it, a familiar "friend" making it's way towards me. I understood then the melody I listened to, a comfort at the end of the road for all the pain endured and for all the pain yet to be endured. Closer, ever closer, but as I was about to step outside: silence. I felt I had been abandoned, that the only thing numbing the pain had been taken away from me, much like the rest of what this place has taken from me. And as I passed through the gate and the world opened itself to me it happened, a cathartic explosion of emotions. A realisation of every moment leading up to this, that it had _all_ always lead to this. And that it was finally time to bring it to an end. Thank you for one of the most beautiful moments I've ever experienced and for acknowledging the journey we've been through in the best way possible :)

I unironically cried when I heard this come on. It almost feels like the capstone to a 7 year journey. (Not that there won't be more Risk 2 stuff in the future, I hope at least.) From the strange 2d landing of the first Risk 1 stage, all the way to this beautiful, haunting final confrontation. It's been a wild ride, and if there were ever a song to mark its triumphant conclusion, it'd be this one. Thank you Chris, for everything you've put into this game.

This track will always bring back the memory of my first ever risk of rain 2 playthrough. i had never played the first risk of rain so i had no idea what to expect. Hearing the almost sorrowful piano notes, only for the more upbeat keys to chime in had me roped in, the acoustic guitar kicking in mimicing the higher notes, all leading to that absolute insane climax had me mindblown, i remember as the song peaked IMMEDIATELY opening settings to turn up my music, it drowned out of the voices of my friends in discord as i just sat there in complete awe. this is a track i will always come back to, when im happy or down, no matter what it always just gives me this feeling of complete immersion, like nothing around me matters. not once have i found a track thats just pulled me in so much. Im not sure if you will see this comment in the sea below, but if you do. thank you.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I went into RoR2 pretty much blind, and when I hit this track I actually had to stop and just listen. This is the only music of any kind (that I remember) that has made me teary-eyed just because it's SO GODDAMN EPIC. Like, I'm not prone to getting emotional, especially over music. But this? This is something really special. I'm going to make sure every single human I ever meet hears this at least twice. They say nothing is perfect, but I think this song might somehow be.

There are many songs people say that make them feel a sense of catharsis, but in a way that it becomes therapeutic. There are songs that are so good, that they relieve others of stress, even when the mind is preoccupied with dread, and stress. I’m pretty sure this isn’t the only comment that has said this, but this track is essentially therapy, as it is so good. There is something about 64 beats of piano, followed by continuous supplements of instruments to give a great sense of “power,” but I see it that power as if it was “freedom.” The execution of this song is phenomenal, beautiful, and it’s a track that balances the mood given by the abstract, lunar view of Commencement. This song holds a special place in my heart, and every time I play ROR2, when I reach this level, I make sure to turn the SFX to 0-10%, putting me at risk (no pun intended) to get hit by the Lunar Chimeras just so I can embrace the atmosphere that this track brings. You really have done an amazing job with this game, and this song in particular is my favorite song of all time. I’m not gushing or bluffing to flatter, because I really have felt like this song helped me whenever an emotional conflict was going on. Thank you so much for providing us an amazing soundtrack to an amazing game!

I love how this song feels like a personification of Mithrix. The first half represents Mithrix's cool, somehwat somber exterior, suppressing emotion somewhat, discarding it as an unnecessary distraction, but the second half both shows that you cant cast that emotion aside, because its always coming, always waiting to burst forth from you. And then it does, explosively, in a torrent of Grief and Anger and Regret. The instruments seem to literally Wail in agony to characterize Mithrix's emotional termoil for his brother. Someone he was angry at but could never hate. The only anything who he felt connected to, riven from him by interlopers, only proving Mithriz right in the worst possible way. Rarely does anything move me to tears, but my eyes well to this song. Its such a goddamn good song man.

0:00 - *Running up the ramp onto the bridge* It sure was quite a journey. 1:23 - *Charging pillars* One last fight... 1:38 - *Many Lunar enemies spawning on you* It could all be for nothing but... 2:05 - "I ain't going down without a fight!" Thank you so much for this masterpiece Chris , I don't think there is a single run I don't listen to this track fully. I will wait outside Mithrix arena , that much you can be sure of.
